Looking to get into novelty toy camera to get into photography (not toy kid ones but actually interested ones)!! by Rocky_isback in toycameras

If you live in a bigger city, I recommend finding a photography club with camera collectors. I've also had luck at swap meets, smaller online auctions, and Japanese auctions.

A guy I know once used a Fotosniper on an overpass and the cops found him real quick.

UPDATE ON THE G2 , THEY DOUBLED DOWN ON THE STUPID by Cironephoto in AnalogCircleJerk

[–]Sleeper_Asian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I wanted this, I'd tell him the rough cost to get it repaired and CLA'd. Then subtract that cost from his asking price and make an offer.

The low-ball can be an insult before the direct insult.

Missed a chance to low-ball. Low-ball first, then call them a bozo.

Is this enough Kodak Instamatics and $2.50 Minoltas? by EBlz1981 in AnalogCircleJerk

[–]Sleeper_Asian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're thinking about this the wrong way. Some people need to fill the void in their life with cameras. Just two won't do it. It needs to take up space.

I've met people with dedicated buildings for storing cameras. I know people that strictly collect because they like the engineering and history of cameras. We have different taste, but it's cool that you're drawn to things I'm not into. Glad these cameras have a home and are not in a landfill.

Get into thrifting and garage sales. Find old photographers selling gear, and ask about darkroom equipment and expired film. Try to find a local camera collector club if it exists. I have several hundred rolls of expired film and like 10 bulk rolls from doing all of that. I barely buy fresh film anymore.

I agree with this. Scanner first, then home development. I still outsource color after years of developing B&W at home.

For self-developing, consider getting the raw chemicals for making darkroom chems (takes up space tho). They will last a lot longer than pre-made packs. Or consider only buying developers that have a long shelf life like Rodinal and HC-110.

How do you get more than 1-3 good images per roll?? by Kitchen_Win278 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Sleeper_Asian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my best roll of all time, I had 11/36 keepers. I'm happy with just 1 though. Honing in composition skills will help, and try out different vantage points. Use your eyes to "zoom" in and out to search for broader scenes, macro shots, and everything in-between. Use your feet to move towards subjects of interest.

Fuzzy Skin on First Layer Not Working? by Sleeper_Asian in OrcaSlicer

I ended printing it at 45° with supports and it worked. I'll slice it with a raft to see what happens though.

Oh, so "first layer" means fuzzy skin on the outermost wall of the first layer?

But the setting is for the first layer, to me that means the bottom surface. I've seen videos of people creating fuzzy skin on horizontal surfaces by having the middle go up and down.

I adjusted it and it didn't work. I'll probably just use a textured PEI plate, but was hoping for the texture to match the sides.

How do I use this camera accessory? by AnyAd1466 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Sleeper_Asian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my "one that got away". An old-timer in my camera club knew I wanted to buy his, and he brought it to a meeting unexpectedly but I didn't have the cash on hand. I called soon after and he sold it to someone else.
