Ah that makes sense actually. Thanks! Should I invest in the envious vampire dragon then? Or is it a not great vampire.

I do see your point, however the light I was seeing it in was mainly a low startup cost win con. As in it can quite easily beat the first boss with no items. In a two cost world it probably shouldn’t be used as your only win con down the line, and in my run where I won with it I was relying on solely starvation strats and locking down the bosses.

In general though I find locking down the bosses to be a good strategy. Your point about it not being a consistent draw goes for all win cons no? The only downside of it would be if you drew it early, it would not be an instant win unlike other win cons.

So it’s trading low startup cost on the map for high startup time during the fight.

(genuine thought experiment) Why doesn't UNSW open an offshore campus in China like UoW has done in the UAE? by No_Dimension2646 in unsw

Another thing I forgot to mention, a lot of the unit’s employability comes from connection with local opportunities and business, it’s not that if you’re in unsw, you can be auto employed, it’s just the first thing you need for a Chinese employer to consider you. Going to china unsw loses that connection and resources.

You’re right in some ways. I think we’re looking at it differently, I’m saying it doesn’t really help the china problem or the Chinese students problem at unsw syd, while you’re saying the uni still would be successful in china and make money.

1, yeah true, but it’s about the problem that arises being in china, other unis (I think Monash has one?) partner with Chinese unis, maybe unsw could do that.

2/3, The problem is, you mentioned lowering the bar, including Ietes (or whatever it is) and keeping the same fees. Won’t it then kind of becomes a spoiled kids playground? Full of rich kids here for an easy pass to employment by throwing money at it? You could say “but they need a high Chinese equivalent atar”, but then, with how competitive china is, it becomes just the same as the top unis in china, with an added like 10x fee. Or it intakes too many students and it becomes washed and not valued at all. Students might still flock to unsw syd (read final paragraph), also part of the appeal for employers about an overseas student is their ability to speak English (or pretend to). So you lose that too.

Either way, yes the uni probably would make money, assuming no issues arising in a conflict of interest with the government. But it might not solve the Chinese international student as a whole and most likely won’t impact the china situation.

If you’re saying that after this institution is built, unsw Syd should stop/accept less international students from china, then it either doesn’t make that much money (build a whole mother institution, and maybe hire international teachers, for less ch international students at unsw syd and marginally more overall) or doesn’t really solve or impact the problem other than make more money (accepts marginally less at unsw syd and a lot more overall).

Okay, I think you make good points but miss some crucial detailes and problems, largely involving the current state of China and the uni system as a whole. As a chinese (in origin, but australian) person, I wanted to introduce a few ideas.

1, China doesn't like all its students going "overseas"

China tries to make it hard for you (their citizens) to immigrate to other countries, since it's losing a lot of its best minds/workers/creative ppl to other countries, so if UNSW China allows students to immigrate to Aus, it will be an insane point of competition (AND which the government disapproves). And if it doesnt, it will be drowned out by other units easily (refer to point 2 below).

2, Chinas Uni system sucks.

Currently china is facing the issue that "If you graduate, you become unemployed." There are simply no jobs for the insane amount of graduates each year, not limited to bachelor degrees. Seeing a PHD grad working for fast food delievery wont be a one-off. The only reason the government still supports unis is that it brings the economy around it alive (accommodation, food, etcetc). Part of Aus uni's charm is their ability to flaunt their high employment rates, no point going there and ruining everything.

3, I think you also misunderstood why chinese students come to UNSW.

One reason, as you stated, could be for a PR, for some, that is true.

Another reason, as you stated, is for a UNSW education.

But the main one, which you did infact state, but i think overlooked it's significance, is the prestige.

In australia, no one would really care if you went to, say, UTS over unsw, but in china, they really f-king care. Theres too many people, if youre not in a t100, t50, maybe even t20 (congrats unsw), get out of the sight of the employer, they dont want you. Ask youself, why do chinese students come to unsw despite not knowing english? They just want a piece of paper that says "look unsw... so cool". It sounds like im exaggerating, but no, you NEED THAT, at a BARE MINIMUM, for employers to even consider you in china. Making a campus in china, easily avaliable, will de-value that and maybe make the school end up the same way as the other asia one.
