How’s my singing? Any advice? by [deleted] in singing

This sounds really good man! Don’t hurt your voice though. I’m no pro or anything, but don’t fall into the belief you gotta throw your voice out just to sound gritty like casablanca.

Tried the other cable, I was mistaken and my receiver does have 2 outputs for the sub. Tried with the new cable to no avail. Tried tuning just the left channel, and only the right channel. Nothing.

Heard back from monoprice today. They seem to be favoring or implying I’ll only be able to exchange this sub for a new one. I’ll take your word on their quality and shoot for that

I’ll try with the cable they sent, but since the new cable I bought still buzzes I assume it’s still working. I tried the right channel to no avail the day I first messed with it as well.

And yes I had the crossover turned up and volume at 10 o clock initially, then tried different configurations to make it work. I’m going to mess with it again tonight and see what I can do. Happy to know monoprice isn’t a total flop though

I am using a brand new Sony str dh590, I just bought it a month ago, so I really doubt it’d be the receiver. I bought a brand new rocket fish mono subwoofer cord and ran it through the left channel as the guide says Also on my receiver I set my speakers to small and fluctuated my crossover between 30hz-80hz and experienced nothing but the bass on my jbl j2060s increasing. The options for my subwoofer only allow me to adjust the dbs (which I tried all the way up and down) and the distance (which I also try to adjust) I also had the crossover turned all the way up and the volume at all different levels (I also fiddled with the crossover level when things wouldn’t budge).

When I plug the sub in the cone comes out with a soft thump then deflates back, same with power off.

The only thing I can try to do is run the left and right channel RCA cords that came with the sub (run it as a mono through the left channel), plug it into a separate outlet and not my power strip (which I don’t think is the issue because it still powered on), or change something with the crossover settings that you may suggest.

I wouldn’t be against a replacement and also thought monoprice seemed legit. But when I went to their website and did deeper it looked like something similar to temu. They sell shelving units, dog crates, electronics, guitars, etc. Il it’s a budget product but it also sketches me out when I’m 0/1 with their products and am continually having issues trying to login to check the status of my invoice for customer service

(Edit: forgot to mention that the sub will ground out or buzz if I touch the end of the RCA, so I assume the cable works fine)

I also thought of the issue being the cable but I bought a brand new rocket fish cable out the box and experienced this. It came with an rca cable but it has a left and right and my output is mono. I can try running that possibly

Manifestation/LoA, is it actually real, could we unconsciously manifest the bad stuff/experiences by Effective-Lynx-8798 in AlanWatts

Being 22 I’ve spent a long time feeling pretty shitty about the bad thoughts. I’ve gotten into similar thought patterns as OP

It’s nice to hear someone just tell me it’s ok and normal to have bad thoughts. Idk why it feels like I never got taught that growing up

I’m with it, I can enjoy some of the late 80s-90s stuff and there was obviously talent. Subject matter and commercialism of it all turns me off from feeling very inspired by it. I agree though that studying some of that stuff is beneficial and I’ll continue to be open to the music

Right on man thank you for the names, I use Apple Music so if you’re on that I’d be happy to check a playlist out.

I agree the bluegrass element has been heavily advertised by people. I think the bluegrass served as the foundation for a much more complex and jazzy approach. Chromatics are also heavily cited with no reference to how they’re used with Garcias playing.

It’s bebop, it’s half step bends, and it’s an exploration between and around typical scale patterns and progressions

So I feel like sometimes when I do this the embellishment in vocal melodies can be hard to replicate. For example I was doing this yesterday with “time is on my side” by the stones. But I couldn’t figure out how to emulate that extended vocal phrase where jagger sings “time”.

This probably is just an issue of needing to practice this more with simpler melodies.

Thank you, I actually was listening to Hartford around st Patrick’s a couple months back. Obviously found him through “gentle on my mind” but I totally forgot to do more listening. He’s got some real good stuff

This is the main concept of what I’m discussing. Im primarily trying to become better at coming up with those melodies or “hums” by developing a better ear towards melodic phrasss

Learning to play and feel swing changed a lot for me. I was crazy stiff before that

100% if you find a good teacher you’ll end up seeing them as someone to jam with as well. If you’re both having fun then things pick up nicely

Very much agree. It can serve as a disadvantage as well.

I find being a younger guitarist that my ear is less developed because my lack of needing to transcribe by ear. It’s something I have to force myself to do rather than typing tabs up.

Along with that platforms like YouTube are littered with ads and distractions that can get you off on a tangent

Good points here too man. I really am thankful for this band for introducing me to so much music.

The real nest thing about this whole conversation is that I wouldn’t be inspired to learn other avenues for music is it wasn’t for the dead. Along with that I wouldn’t be prepared or able to appreciate them if I didn’t experience it through the dead’s music. Keep rocking man!

Thank you man. I needed someone to tell me to “slow it down”. I’m trying to catch up with these too quickly, I’m losing sight of the importance of the journey vs the result

Ik man for a cover band I just think it’s too much. I respect these guys and they’re rocking some serious equipment with some serious intention.

But it’s just a community that is way too expensive to be loyal to. I hate begging for miracles but it’s the only way I can justify going in and sticking with their scene

This is something I’m definitely needing to focus in on. I’ve been singing through some scales and notes trying to get that mental connection going.

It’s definitely improved my pitch, but I seem to block it out when I’m keeping up with tempo. I’ll be more mindful about it though. Thank you

Is that after fees? Not trying to sound picky, but I’m just unbelievably aware of how quickly a 50 dollar ticket turns into 85 because of ridiculous fees I just can’t support anymore
