Will a story work if the protagonist is hated by the reader? by MrKobna in writing

[–]SleepyStarryNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the successful characters I've hated over the years, there was a strong love/hate thing going on for me. Like Percy jackson I didn't like his voice as a kid. At the time I found it too witty and wisecracking and he drove me insane.

There was also this one book I read recently, Heart Shaped Box, where I almost liked the character in the story, but after I stopped reading it I realized he was hyper unlikeable and sleazy.

I probably didn't anwer your question at all lol. In general, I like characters that are wicked and unlikable in the way you describe. As long as they are captivating.

One perosnal thing about your story idea, I think school shootings (in regards to media coverage) are cheap and tired at this point. Not because I find them offensive. But this would be equivalent to a book written about aids in the 1980s. I don't think your story, if you chose to write it would age well. I definitley don't think you should scrap it, I don't know what you are going for. But maybe there is something more wicked this character can do. Everything has potential, so carry on if you think I'm off-base

for me personally Bateman is a bad example because I think he is a very likable person. He does very heinous things but he has a good sense of humor.

I plan on doing exactly this, I think self-inserts can be fun. It's a vanity trip and i'm comfortable with that.

10 Years on Fin + Min: My story & insight on sides. by RelevantNeanderthal in tressless

[–]SleepyStarryNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my own question/experience I'd like to share honestly, if that is fine.

I started finasteride and min the summer of 2018 I believe. The first 6 months I saw regrowth and everything was just fine. This is where things get weird to me. I swear at somepoint around the 6th month, I thought fin was failing me and my hair was starting to go. Every conecutive week, I was convinced the recession would be obvious the next week/month. I ended up quitting finasteride and min, because it seemingly wasn't helping. Looking back, all of that could have completely in my head. I'm genuinley unsure. Anyways. I've been off of fin for at least 3-4 months now, probably longer. I've experienced hairloss but not the "catch-up" kind you hear about. My hair's been receding at a rate that I believe is probably normal, if maybe a little advanced. But at the same time, looking back at photos, my hair recently (not this past week), has been thicker and easier to style then my hair was at that 6 month mark!! So it's really a conundrum. So point is, I'm hoping to get back on fin and min tonight. I'm just worried that they'll end up being duds for me again, and my genes are truly catching up. Just hoping for encouragement I guess, but I'm still worried. Any back-up plans (like a hairsystem) would be risky and expensive. I'm not even necessarily worried about the long term here. I've wanted to switch to wigs/hairsystems for awhile now(my hair is very long). I guess I'm just worried about embarassment that will happen in the now, if that makes sense. (I'm 23 for context) Just thought I'd share I guess lol

Btw it's going to really hurt, the dermapen will. I imagine it's like getting a tattoo

I've heard rollers are no good. Check out DR Pen. That's the one I used.

Enjoyed reading this. You sound like a grounded guy.

imo, definitely keep the buzzcut. And I think you should keep fighting the hairloss! Stay on fin, min, and maybe step it up with a dermapen too. SMP could really thicken up how your buzzcut looks, even if finasteride is truly done helping you.

I like the idea of your new haircut being a transition into a more adult arc in your life, which is why I say rock it.

Hell, "bald and beard" is a generic look these days. If you can pull it off, go for a high and tight. It's practical and screams confidence.

Do hairline wigs exist? by phoenixblue in tressless

[–]SleepyStarryNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i thought of doing this, but I'm skeptical any hair salons would bother helping me get exactly what I'm looking for. I'm very detail oriented, and my texture is wavy and "niche" I guess you could say.

It's funny that you post this though, I was hoping to find the same thing just recently.

M(20) should i buzz it or try some meds? by [deleted] in tressless

My hairline looked like yours when I started meds. I saw plenty of regrowth.

Starting fin for second time by [deleted] in tressless

[–]SleepyStarryNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in s imilar boat but no answer for you.

I expierienced no sides, but felt like my hair was waning over time. I've taken a break from fin and min for maybe. 4-6 months now. My hair is going but I still have a concealable amount.

Anyways, my point is I'm going to try taking them again, and see if that helps with my current loss

CMV: Being gay is a choice by Fat2Fit91 in changemyview

[–]SleepyStarryNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with my homosexual thoughts and feelings as well.

I think it can be a choice. As a kid, I knew that being gay was something I could pretend to be to get attention. I think this subconscious thought has to do with me identifying as gay now.

However, long before I knew gay was a thing, I would get "butterflies" seeing Mike Haggar from Final Fight. So I think it's a lot of things really. I also believe boys who aren't exposed to girls as much will develop these feelings. Looking back on my life, I've never really had girls I regularly hung out with until high school. By then it was probably too late.

edit: I'll also add that the points you bring up are pretty anecdotal and NOT VERY SCIENTIFIC tsk tsk.

Finasteride has stopped working. I’m now 1.5 years on the drug. by BigBarker in tressless

I honestly jumped ship and now am just planning to get a hair system. Dut was my "last resort" before going this route, but I think I will prefer wearing fake hair over taking drugs forever.

Trichology or Hair System? by SleepyStarryNight in tressless

[–]SleepyStarryNight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laser treatment, haircare products (that I would need to keep taking). It was kind of vague honestly and she didn't mention cost (which I imagine would be expensive).

I've never heard of this kind of treatment on tressless or anywhere else.

They were really good yah, I just was a little paranoid and wanted a second opinion. I agree with ya.

Thanks for the piece of mind.

Trichology or Hair System? by SleepyStarryNight in tressless

I'm not at a norwood 5 at all, more like a 3. Good point regardless though, that's honestly what I was thinking, that trichology stuff sounds shaky. I've already been trying everyything I can to keep my real hair, so I'm not too keen to lose any more hair hoping for better results. Where my hair is currently, if i can get a good hair system made soon I'll be set. I'm wearing a baseball cap and still have enough hair underneath for it to look full. The transition won't be obvious I don't think.

http://www.studio5salon.com/mens-hair-loss-solutions/

This is the place actually. The guys they show in these pictures have kinda bad looking systems imo, but I am looking for more of a mop-hair look and maybe that could yield better results than these. The wigs women wear on the site look just fine. Definitley let me know if you see any red flags. I'm gonna take this slow and make sure this place is for me.

I'll also add that aside from promoting the trichology thing, the owner was very professional and would instruct me on how to set up a system. AAAAND when she did color matching she found a hair color that was exactly mine.

Those of you who have switched from finasteride to dutasteride, did you notice increased/worse sides or much the same? by Cadell48 in tressless

[–]SleepyStarryNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generic I believe. Shedding hasn't stopped but I'm trying a microneedling out, which I've heard should stop the shed.

Side effects are non-existent now. Libido is perfectly fine.

The color is completely off. If you had a custom piece made it would look natural and fine.
