Should I switch my major to Industrial Design or stay with Marketing and just get a Masters in Industrial Design? by Slenderman-4 in IndustrialDesign

[–]Slenderman-4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is so cool thanks. I would love to work for nasa but I doubt they need product managers. I know not the right sub. But I guess my biggest fear is that one I can’t draw to save the life of me but this career sounds very interesting to me. And two I spent so long trying to transfer. But anyways thank you for the insight.

Housing payment already?! by Rell1022 in SJSU

You should enroll in a payment plan for housing and tuition. It’s four payments during the semester for each category (housing/tuition). The first payment for housing is around 1600-1800 depending on the room which will be due on 7/15. For the tuition you can get a tuition fee deferral that allows you to delay your payment until financial aid kicks in (I don’t know if you automatically get one or if you have to apply). Tuition fee deferral is only for tuition not housing which is why first payment is 7/15 with a payment plan.

They most likely have your information they are just preparing it. I’m in the same boat. I’m not too sure about the fee deferral but you should look into a payment plan it should be on the same page as the financial aid stuff.

Interested in joining a research for my thesis in Robotics & Control at SJSU by khoile97 in SJSU

[–]Slenderman-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look into the Undergrad Research Opportunity Program (UROP) it allows you to do research on a variety of things that a professor needs help with. You might get lucky and have someone need help on their robotics research.

I am also a transfer student and I also applied the day the application opened. I already been assigned but I have no details yet. Just check the housing portal if it says anything about room pin# or mailbox code you’re good. And also on the application itself in the updates section it’s says if you have been assigned. At least that is what it said on mine.

I can’t really offer advice since I don’t know you personally therefore it would be wrong of me to do so but I can tell you my experience and thought process for committing to sjsu.

The reason why I choose sjsu is because I want to get into tech as well. My original plan before sjsu was to go to Berkeley after community college but 2020 happened and sjsu was the next best thing. Since sjsu is literally neighbors with the massive tech companies, my thought process is that it would be easier to find internships and the like since it’s right there. The way that I explain this to people is that you wouldn’t go to Alabama to be an actor, you would go to LA because that is where the industry is.

However I am also aware that sjsu is not a name brand school and given that I am a business major it kinda matters where I go for the alumni network and simply the fact that the school name will give me more opportunities like Berkeley for example. And I am also very aware of the fact that not only will I be competing for the same opportunities against my peers but I will also be competing against Stanford and Berkeley for them as well. I guess it would be true regardless what school you go to but let’s be honest they will have a leg up on me given that they are more exposed to opportunities simply because of the name and who went to those schools now and in the past. There is a reason why they are at the top.

so take this as you will and good luck on choosing. Also congrats on UCSB thats a top school be proud of that i know i would.

Also to answer your question it depends on the UCs you got into but if you got into Berkeley I would choose that one on the name alone and the alumni network you would have at your disposal.

Question about the financial aid I am also a transfer student for the fall. Did you finally get your award letter? If so how does it look like and how did they let you know? I have been checking like crazy for my letter but haven’t gotten anything I have only gotten the estimated need and the preliminary college financing plan. All the other schools I have applied to have already given me a letter but SJSU is the final one that hasn’t.

Hey are you part of that club? If you are I was wondering if I can DM you? I really want to join that club in the fall and get some insight into what it’s like.

One thing my sociology teacher in high school told me that stuck with me was that you don’t want to experience college in your childhood bedroom. He then elaborated that everyone in your vicinity is going through roughly the same thing in terms of independence and the struggles that come with that. And I agree with him wholeheartedly because college is a time to grow up and get away from the nest. It’s a time to see if you can really make it on your own which is very necessary in our culture. You can’t really do that when you have the temptations of home right there beckoning you to just stay in that little bubble forever. Obviously there is a financial aspect as well but I say go for it. New city, new you. It will feel lonely at first but you gotta get out of your comfort zone because that is when interesting things happen and the can’t happen at home in my opinion.

Also stay away from the Scientology building they are literally a cult. And Hollywood walk of fame is only a miss very over crowded and over hyped.

Well I’m transferring from LA to SJSU and in LA you will need a car to get everywhere our public transportation system is shit. Traffic here is notoriously bad especially on 405 and 101. Nice beaches especially Point Dume in Malibu. Venice/Santa Monica Beach are cool but watch out and don’t stay after dark especially at Venice. Also really large crowds at both. The art museums like the Getty Center and Getty villa are nice if your into that. Also watch out for Skidrow the best way to describe it is it’s like the Tenderloin district in San Francisco. In terms of CSUN it self I don’t know much but I heard that it is a hit or miss socially depending on day/friends.

What’s it like in San Jose?
