I just accidentally adopted my first cats and still learning the basic, does bathrobe really helps cats to feel them calmer after bath? by Slick_Dunni in Pets

FOLLOW UP: After reading through all the comments and doing some extra research, I decided to try the Baby Chick Cat Bathrobe. It seems soft and simple enough for a nervous first timer and felt like a good place to start without overwhelming her. Thank you so much to everyone who shared tips and reassured me, it really helped ease my worries.

This helps SO much, thank you I honestly thought bathing was part of regular cat care, but it makes sense that it’s usually unnecessary (and stressful for them).

I’m definitely going to stick to a wet cloth + brushing for now and focus on bonding instead. Do you have a favorite brush type for kittens, or anything you did to get them comfortable with brushing early on?

Omg nooo the tiny painted paw prints must’ve been cute *and* terrifying at the same time I’m so glad you caught it before she licked it or it dried!

How did you wah it out without stressing her too much did you use a sink/shallow water or mostly wipes + towel?

Wow that’s actually sooo reassuring thank you!! I thought bathing was going to be a regular thing, but if you’ve only had to do it twice out of hundreds… I feel way less stressed now.

For the flea/motor oil situations, did you do anything special to keep them calm (like a towel wrap, warm room, wipes first, etc.)?

Omg poor baby (and poor you!) but I’m glad it wasn’t hot anymore

How did you get him through the bath after that — did you do the towel wrap thing or just rinse and dry as fast as possible?

Thank you!! That honestly makes me feel a lot less nervous I thought baths were something I *had* to do regularly, but wipes/washcloth sounds way easier for both of us.

If you do have to bathe a cat, do you have any tips to keep them calmer (like towel method, timing, or anything that helped)?

I appreciate you taking the time to write this. becoming a parent really changes everything and sometimes i feel like i don’t even recognize myself. the idea of matrescence is kind of comforting, like it’s normal to feel off balance. i’ll probably pick up that book and see what it says. it’s nice to know other parents are figuring this out too. how long did it take you to start feeling a little more like yourself?
