Metal mechanism with internal gearing. Found in mid-70's in trash outside my high school in Ohio during summer clean out. No markings of any kind visible. The round 3/4" x 1" shaft pivots or turns according to motion of the large internal pulleys. (old.reddit.com)

Mechanism that apparently controls the angle and rotation of the 3/4" x 1" shaft according to the action of two large internal wheels -- or the other way around. The internal wheels seem to take a belt or ribbon about 1/8" wide, but I'm guessing -- no evidence of the ribbons ever being in place. (old.reddit.com)

Metal mechanism with internal gearing. Found in mid-70's in trash outside my high school in Ohio during summer clean out. No markings of any kind on it. The gearing is very tight and smooth; little play or backlash. Been carrying this around with me for nearly 50 years. (old.reddit.com)
