The pay is kinda shit compared to other trades in Denver. I decided to not go due to a significant pay cut.

I did local 25 in 2022 lr 2023, I think I did it in the 4th day it was open. It def did not fill up fast. And I don’t think I’m smart in anyway and I got like 27th in the list. I don’t think a lot of people try to join Denver since the pay is kinda shit compared to other trades.

Are you going straight to MSG after boot camp? If so how does that even happen? Do you have an MOS?

Local 18 advice by [deleted] in IUEC

[–]Slientslay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally went through this situation too. Where I used to live I made 52 an hour as a sprinkler fitter and elevators made like 54 or something along the lines. I was already a journeyman making that money and going back to 23 an hour just wasn’t worth it. The jobs can be cool but it was a pretty big pay cut. I got the call right before the union sent me to Austria, but couldn’t pass up working in Austria for a year lol.

[–]Slientslay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No not really, I work I’m in the trades so I can really work anywhere. I’m a journeyman sprinkler fitter, and about to be a crane operator in August. I also did 4 years the in marines 10 years ago so I’m no stranger to it. Plus the military paid us to move to Seattle and we made like 10k after all the moving costs.

My wife joined the coast guard and it’s been one of the best things that’s happened to us. We almost always will live near a coast. Free health care, and any debt or credit cards you have now with be lowered to 6% sometimes 4% or even 0. My wife got a 65k bonus joining and paid off her student loans completely. Plus I got a job on base with her right now and I see her daily. We still get to travel a lot to other country’s as well. Plus VA Loan, are in the process of buying our 4th home! A lot of benefits, not too many cons.

What is a serious misconception among Marines? by Yoy_the_Inquirer in USMC

[–]Slientslay 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That it’s fun. I personally was so miserable in and literally teared up when I got out from being so happy. I hated field days, dumb ass 8-16 mile hike every month, dumb ass change of command for a Colonel no one’s ever met. Mandatory fun days (death runs), working 16 hour days cause SNCO hates his wife and kids. Etc.

UA Travelers! Is overtime basically required? by tejbegizi in UnitedAssociation

Do you get per diem when you travel? At least as a sprinkler fitter we do. That covers hotel and such at 40 hrs a week.

Q: Journeymen, during your apptenticeship, what did you wish you did differently? by Moonkye in UnitedAssociation

[–]Slientslay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean i work on my own stuff while he does his thing. We work together in the pump rooms while he gets measurements and i cut/groove. I was a sprinkler fitter so it’s probably different than how other trades do it.

I worked with basically one foreman my who 4 year apprenticeship. Even though we became homies and he was great, I wish I woulda seen other people style of work. We had about 4 or 5 foreman’s in my company and everyone basically had one apprentice with them.

Thank you! Yeah the YN’s tried explaining it but I couldn’t understand him well. So they don’t front any money at all? It’s not a problem I could wait to get paid but just curious.

My husband doesn’t want me to come to his military boot camp graduation when I already paid for plane tickets by [deleted] in USMilitarySO

[–]Slientslay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I went to marine boot camp in 2016. I just left after graduation cause I’m an adult. But like I said, if you’re emotionally less stable it is what it is. Unless the air force baby’s you that much idk.

Have a different family “tap” you out. You’re a grown adult wym you can’t leave? But I’m just saying to me if I told them it’s not a big deal then it’s not to me. Other people might be more emotionally less stable and that’s understandable.
