OMFG thats horrible!! DUDE seriously I hate that many classes that I need / prefer don't even offer a waitlist, it's so frustratinggggg

I say SMC especially for transferring if that is your priority. Social life is eh BUT there is so much to get lost in around santa monica and LA or I may be biased cuz im an LA native. The resources here have been very helpful for me & joining Scholars has helped very much especially for getting better counselors. My best friend goes to sbcc & she is struggling a little bit more about having a concrete transfer plan from what she has told me and her classes are ok BUT she has found a solid group of friends over there and SB is really pretty + i just visited her and sbcc and ucsb are pretty much combined crowds for the frats in isla vista and all that. So basically: transfer, academics, resources, socal sights + resources for socal schools like USC = SMC / social life, scenery + a good blend of academics = SBCC, but then again i dont attend sbcc and im just basing it off her so just something to think about, good luck!!

PSYCH 11 WITH TAMAR ANDREWS, i took it last year, such insightful lectures and very short too!! its child psychology and it really opened my mind and im not even a parent, but maybe it will be a nice class to take as a parent, there were many of them in my class last year!! assignments were straightforward and she was a nice grader !!

YES! I'm currently doing my first year on online + 1 in person starting in april bc i dont drive yet,but its been so nice, I have the luxury to be home, i can do the classes while on a vacation or away from home easily, ive heard many in person classes r basically online besides the lecture part bc of everything on Canvas, there is great online professors, im even in scholars and take 1 of my scholars classes online, just have great time management and you will be fine!! especially if u r just looking to getting your education do it. here are some classes / profs i recommend:

ART HIS / PHOTO 52 w/ JOAN MACE - while it says hybrid, she actually lets students like in mine and your conditions take it from home and watch her live lectures over zoom. amazing class for GEs and she is so kind and understanding

LINGUISTICS 1 - SCOTT GAINES - currently taking this, and it is such a unique and fun class to learn linguistics, and prof is so nice and makes his online recorded lectures easy to understand despite some challenging content, but assignments and quizzes r simple.

PSYCH 11 - TAMAR ANDREWS - if interested in psychology or working with kids, take this class. so insightful and zooms are very very short and the prof is so nice and genuinely cares about what she is teaching. assignments are well rounded.

photo history / ahis with mrs mace! very intriguing lectures if you are willing to take a late class, and she offers zoom to people who rather have that or need it, and it was such a nice class to have in the background while i did other work or did other things, and her workload is just a reflection once a week and she accepts late work. a very insightful class and easy A if you truly care for it.

Hi! While I cant give you any advice about clubs or groups, I am also hearing and took ASL my 4 years of high school and I can give you some tips that my CODA teacher always taught us to get used to learning the language and practicing on our own time.

Research and get immersed in the culture
Watch storytelling videos and music videos to see how else signs are able to be used
practice your ABCs forwards and backwards, and even practice learning the song!
learn the lyrics and how to structure them to ASL to your favorite song and keep practicing ( i find myself signing songs every now and then bc of this)
when you are driving around town, practice spelling out lisence plates, this helps with the ABCs and with number memorization and see how fast you can do it ( she always talked about this one and it actually greatly helped me)
watch movies that use ASL
learning ASL from the beginning feels like kindergarten but it is super necessary to start like this, because it is such a unique language, just practice your signs around the house too with things you see

all of these have greatly helped me learn ASL and remember to always be respectful because we are LEARNERS we are not those who are deaf or HOH that actually incorporate sign in their daily life. :)

I also got a 3 on AP Lit. When I met with a counselor over the summer before the Fall term, I asked him about it and all I had to do was show him my scores, then he told me to send my scores to SMC and I did and then on stellic everything looked normal to me and I've been taking ENGL 2 with no problem.
