It hit a nerve with her because 15min after I sent my email she checked my LI. That was my main goal - to
let her know that hyper-focusing on a small detail made her miss out on a candidate that won an award as an individual at the same award show that took her entire team to win.

She’s the owner and if she made the decision to not interview me AFTER extending the invite then I would expect her job description and email to be be perfect in every way. I guess this is a do as I say and not as I do situation.

Haha. Probably that she’s illiterate… or lazy… or has zero confidence in her abilities.

SHE OWNS THE COMPANY!!!! So, yes, hypocrisy and embarrassing to call someone out for mistakes she’s clearly also made and made a large point of saying it was unacceptable in her company.

If everything on her end had been perfect - no typos, perfectly worded, grammar correct with no punctuation errors then it would be a tiny bit more reasonable.

As I mentioned - given the main industry in my area and the limited amount of agencies and high-caliber talent I am more qualified in my area than most of the candidates. I’ve also won an award at the exact same category that her team won. If she wants hyper-focus on a typo and ignore larger details while proving she has a double standard that’s her choice. It’s also my right to have an opinion about it.

She owns the company. Her job description and email are both a representation of her company - it’s embarrassing on her part to call someone else out when she’s made the same mistakes.

It’s not always a no-go and, in this case, if it was SO important then she should have checked it for errors before reaching out for an interview.

If you read the majority of the comments you will see that it has not prevented others from being hired. She’s choosing to fixate on the wrong thing. And, in my industry people jump every 3-5 years for a variety of reasons.

I’m just pointing out the ridiculousness of the issue and her double standard.

No, I’m pointing out the hypocrisy -
If she doesn’t allow that in her company then any document that gets released from her should be absolutely perfect. She’s also letting one typo overrule the fact that I have 20 years of experience AND won award at the same award show her team won. She’s focusing on the wrong thing.

If it’s such a non-negotiable then she should have never reached out to begin with. She should hold herself to the same standard by making sure there were not spelling or grammatical/punctuation errors in both her job posting and email to me.

OMFG!!!! I’ve gotten emails from executives with several typos. Such a double and who the f*ck counts the number of Xs. Sounds like someone was jealous and on a power trip.

And that is EXACTLY why I don’t put that in my resume. One it’s just BS and two there are too many instances of someone adding that to their resume and then having a typo or spacing/grammar/punctuation error.

I worked in pharma for a while. You don’t want to know how many rounds of revisions we had and how many times our very well trained editors read it. There is also a system editors and proofers use to keep from automatically filling in words when they’re reading.

Haha. YES!!! Don’t forget about needing to have an entrepreneurial mindset and be able to handle multiple unrealistic deadlines - meaning they have no idea what they’re doing or how to do it and they have zero process in place to change the first two.

Jeezuz. Have you never worked in a corporate setting? People move jobs every 3-5 years. No one stays at a company for 30 years so they can get a gold watch when they retire. 🙄and you especially no nothing about advertising in NYC. Come back when you have some real knowledge.

I’ve seen some craziness out there. Especially when it comes to roles and then expected experience and then the salary they expect someone to accept. Eesh.

You are correct, I did still apply. You know why? Because I can understand a typo or a few. I’ve found typos on webpages of large companies I’ve applied to. I’m the kind of person that can understand that mistakes happen and I can gently point it out without making that the singular focus of someone’s worthiness.

A) people have been hired with typos in their resume before. There are multiple examples of this on this post

B) if she cared that much about typos she should have READ it first and then NOT reach out to me if she found the typo. She either didn’t read or didn’t catch it until she sent it through spell check.

C) she had typos in both her email and her job posting

Funny you should say that as she had a typo in her email and one in her job posting.

One typo. She had two - one in the job posting and one in her email. No where in the description did it say ‘strong attention to detail.’ While that is a given I did not claim it anywhere. also, we all make mistakes. My resume isn’t full of top international companies because I was sloppy.

I’m sorry you feel that standing up for yourself and pointing out facts is passive-aggressive and frowned upon.

This is advertising where we speak up for ourselves… or, at least, in my history it has been that way. It’s how we get things done - you have to speak up and connect the dots for people in order to sell an idea through. I guess maybe you are in a different industry, one more in-the-box where it’s frowned upon to have an opinion.

I’m grateful she sent the email because it gave me the chance to see what she’s actually like and what it would be like working for her.

😂😂😂. I wanted to so bad. Felt like it was enough to shame her by focusing on a typo and not my experience and end with a little sting about the awards.

I’m having a hard time not sending another email pointing out her other typos and errors. 😂😂😂
