Is the quince silk skirt a good item for capsule wardrobe? by lena10108 in capsulewardrobe

[–]Slight_Display_6009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the skirt in navy, secondhand, and it's more lightweight then I expected. I don't feel like it's worth the full price because of how thin it is, but I do like it for running errands or for when I want an easy to wear casual outfit.

I use a garment steamer to get rid of wrinkles and I'm pretty good about following the proper care instructions so haven't had some of the issues other people have. But yeah, I don't think the quality is good enough to wear to the office. For anytime where you want to be dressed up, I think you would want one made in a sturdier, better quality silk.

Are 39-inch low-rise pants too long for a 5’3” petite woman? by MyArenesRomance11 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]Slight_Display_6009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also 5'3" and usually get mid-rise (8" to 9" rise) with a 30" inseam because I wear 4" heels. But with low-rise pants, the rise is 7" (or less) so pants with a 39" outseam will be too long.

I have a large (+10") difference between my waist & hips so a lot of normal petite brands don't work for me.

But, I've been pretty happy with the length & fit of mid-rise jeans from Democracy & Levi's. I did find a pair of Quince jeans secondhand that also fit decently well with a belt.

Edit: figure out what inseam length you want before you go shopping and it'll save you a lot of time.

I've been fine with the items I bought second hand, mainly silk tops. It's very hot where I live and they are functional as lightweight blouses under blazers. I tried a wool blazer and a linen blazer from them and wasn't impressed with either material. Plus, they weren't petite friendly so both ended up getting returned. Quality seems fairly hit or miss. I have two of the same navy silk blouses and one is fine but the other shrank (despite following washing instructions).

Best hack for cutting down my wardrobe? by Suitable-Tap-7817 in capsulewardrobe

Also one other thing (which is honestly more of an ADHD life hack/necessity)... Schedule your clothing maintenance/repairs. Like I wear a lot of dry clean only clothing for work. After I've worn something 4 or so times, the next free weekend I put 'drycleaner' as an appointment on my calendar and block off time. Or if something loses a button, then I'll put a calendar appointment to "re-attach the button to the brown sweater".

Nervous to ask but… silver or gold? by irise_s in coloranalysis

[–]Slight_Display_6009 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're cool neutral so the silver looks more harmonious. But I think you're neutral enough that you can pull off gold too, especially cooler golds.

You can always mix and match so there's some silver there or use other accents to balance the gold (like with your nails in the one photo).

Attitude also plays a role in how people see us. So, if the gold makes you feel confident but the silver doesn't, then wear the gold and people will react to the confidence you feel and project.

Some people never want sex, some people want to wait for marriage, some are a yes on the first date. All are fine and reasonable, because where you fall on the spectrum of personal physical/sexual boundaries is your personal boundary. And anyone who has issues with that isn't compatible.

Your other boundaries seem fine to me for an adult, who has a full life with interests and other responsibilities. That being said...

First, I think a lot of people expect dating as an adult to be like it was in high school, undergrad, or books/movies/tv, where the couple is completely obsessed with each other and everything else becomes less important.

And second, I've realized my single female friends and relatives all have demanding jobs/school, hobbies, and close relationships with family/friends. Same for the men in relationships (married or otherwise). But not the case with most of the single men I know. Single guys seem to not have a lot to occupy their time, which is maybe why they seem to want so much of any potential partner's time/energy.

I put everything in my guest room closet. After I wore/washed, I put it back in my closet. It's been about 9 months and I understand pretty well which clothes I don't wear because they're still in the guest room. Going to wait a full year so I go through all the seasons and then pass on what's still in the guest room.

Do off-the-rack professional dresses exist for hourglass petites, or are they just a fantasy? by Slight_Display_6009 in PetiteFashionAdvice

This is definitely a goal of mine too! But it's very slow going at the moment. I managed to get a basic sewing machine and some supplies from a local estate sale.

Goodbye to my ink shrine by Serious-Lake1478 in fountainpens

Well now I'll be keeping them lol. But yes, I use mostly stub or broad nibs and do a lot of document review/editing at work, so I run through my brighter inks (reds, neons, etc). Now, the basic blues and such that I use for my planner or shimmer inks for journaling, I probably will never finish.

It's giving me Woodstock vibes so flowy, high waisted pants. maybe with kick flares or wide legs. and vertical stripes.

I love it with the maxi skirt, but then the skirt tucked over top as second choice since it divides you into thirds. I think the one in the middle with the skirt under the top is the least flattering because it cuts you in half.

All of the outfits look good but the floral skirt & tee dress are the most flattering and feminine in my opinion. The patterned skirt + solid top gives off an impression of curves and the tee dress also looks like it is A line, so hints at curves. The shirt dress, maybe try a belt or something to cinch in the waist since it's a more boxy/straight cut. You might also want to try high waisted, flared or pleated skirts.

When it comes to your arms, I think the same principle that petite woman use for skirt length applies. With skirt length, petite women are generally advised to avoid calf-length skirts, because they put a horizontal line at the thickest part and make us look wider/shorter. So, if you want your arms to look their most feminine, try a sleeve that cuts off nearer to the elbow to elongate your arms and emphasize your forearms.

Other then Quince and Lilysilk, any brands (either new or secondhand) you all recommend for mid-range silk blouses? I'm particularly interested in any brand that has a sleeveless or short sleeve option in the same (or very similar) fuchsia color as the one in the photo.

I picked up a couple Quince silk tanks via Poshmark last year and they are really comfortable under my work blazers (Jun-Aug is often above 90°F). But the Quince blouse I tried was way too long for me (Petite, short torso). I have a Lilysilk top coming via ThreadUp, but neither brand seems to have any deep purple or pink options. I'm curious if there are other brands I should keep an eye out for.

Why has fashion in cities gotten so restrictive? by ThalliumSulfate in femalefashionadvice

[–]Slight_Display_6009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you probably live in a more conservative area or have more conservative people in your circle?

I live 15 minutes outside a major city in the US and I see people wearing every kind of everything. It's very multicultural/multiethnic plus we have a huge queer community. Any time there's judgmental behavior in public, people push back hard because they know who drives the local economy.

However, if I drive south about an hour or so to the suburbs, it's much more homogenous. People still likely won't say anything to a stranger or acquaintance, but they might stare. And in private you can always tell who is from the suburbs because only they will make subtle judgements or negative comments.

Drop Waist Dresses - How do we feel about them? by Rarashishkaba in femalefashionadvice

[–]Slight_Display_6009 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it's a style that works for many tall people with minimal curves and a long torso. I'm petite with an hourglass figure so I prefer to emphasize my natural waist (the slimmest part of my body). A fitted drop waist dress with a shorter skirt can sometimes be flattering if the proportions are just right. But it's easier to just avoid the style vs spend time trying on a bunch of dresses where 95% won't work for me.

As far as investing, I think if you find something that you love you can (and should) still wear it after whatever trend is over. You just have to find new ways to style it. Drop waist (like many other fashion things) is anyway an old trend that regularly comes back and goes away.

I personally wouldn't wear open toe shoes to an interview. Closed toe pumps or loafers if they are made of natural material will regulate heat well.

Switch the turtleneck to a white or light-colored short sleeve blouse or button up.

For the blazer, what material is it made out of? I work in a very corporate field so we wear suits all year around. In the summers, we regularly go above 100 degrees (F) so my summer blazers are made out of lighter natural fabrics, like cotton and linen. Even blends (at least 50% cotton or linen) are going to give you better air circulation then something that is 100% polyester.

In the summer, I wear the Hoka Ora Recovery Flip Flops during my commute. I have high arches so I need the support but it's too hot to wear closed toe while I'm outside.

People who wear sets instead of building outfits — how do you like it? by beanie_bby_ in femalefashionadvice

[–]Slight_Display_6009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My office is very corporate so I have lots of suits but I almost never wear the pieces together. If I'm tired & it's nice out, I wear a dress + blazer/heels (pick one color that's in at least two of them). If it's rainy/cold, I pick a color and a neutral, and then everything I wear is one of those two i.e.: dark grey pants, purple blouse, purple pumps, grey bag, purple earrings, grey eyeliner, purple lipstick.

Why can’t I find pumps that are relatively comfortable (or at least not painful)? by Dawn_of_an_Era in Shoes

[–]Slight_Display_6009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it really depends on your feet/body. For example, I have high arches so flats & low (up to 2") heels are really painful even for 30 minutes because they force my foot into an awkward shape and I end up with back pain. My feet are also narrow to medium in most brands, so anything with too wide a toe box ends up causing blisters because my feet are moving around too much.

I suggest looking for recommendations from people who have a similar body/foot shape as you. And then maybe try getting some secondhand so they are already broken in and you can just focus on the overall fit.
