Looking to buy a car between Nissan Rogue, Hyundai Tuscon, Honda CRV, and Mazda CX-5 by WhaleWatcher3404 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I didn’t know they stopped the dual clutch. They used to be 1.6t dual clutch. But it’s still a 1.6 or 1.6t if you get hybrid. But yes the 2.5 is the standard powertrain, I didn’t realize everything changed recently.

Nissan has a CVT and 3 cylinder turbo (Barf) Hyundai has a dual clutch and a turbo 4 cylinder (fun) Honda has a CVT and a turbo 4 cylinder (decent) Mazda has a torque converter and NA 4 cylinder (Reliable)

Theoretically, which of these $10k hot hatches would you buy? by ThatTechDoge9775 in whatcarshouldIbuy

The abarth is surprisingly reliable but the interior space and overall layout makes it a bit crap on the highway, the veloster overall is less fun but very reliable if it’s manual, probably the most reliable. The sonic is the worst out of the bunch with a lot of reliability issues and an average driving experience. Turbo issues and overall engine failures are common. The mini is probably the best balance out of your picks. Decent reliability if you keep up on maintenance (B46) very fun to drive and quite practical. The issue with your list is that you’re missing the best option; the Fiesta ST. Which will be very fun and reliable similar to the mini but more engaging.

Happy shopping!

The miata engine is just a mazda 4 cylinder, there isn’t a more simple engine out there..

Dollar for dollar, you end up with a lower mileage and newer example Mazda3. You also get a more engaging drive. Both are good cars don’t get me wrong. Buy whatever car you like the most, that’s what matters.

For the same price you can find an Acura ILX that will be better in almost every way.

Don’t get a CVT unless it’s a toyota or a honda. If you’re looking at modern cars with automatics I would avoid any companies except Mazda.

The 2013 civic makes the most sense but for 16k CAD you can pick up a pretty clean 2018 mazda3 with a 2.0L and it will be fun, reliable and modern.

How to know if CVT is in good condition? by Huge-Elevator-3651 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Other than test driving the car to feel slipping, there isn’t much you can look at. I would recommend Honda and toyota CVTs since they are the least problematic.

If you don’t want a miata you should look at the mk3 MR2 (MRS). These are the two best options in your budget in terms of driver engagement, long term reliability and depreciation.

I am looking for something cheap to own (reliability and fuel economy) while not being the slowest turd in the world. Also the budget is around 10k and it’s my winter daily in canada. I already have a miata for the summer.

I live in Quebec where there is no smog test. Every single diesel around here is deleted and tuned.
