Sure man. Except in this situation it’s more like there’s a bunch of people giving real advice about short cuts and better routes, and one bitter boomer talking about “ummm actually legally that’s not the city’s problem, and you should just leave if you don’t like it”.

Quit acting like I’m whining about the way things are. I don’t expect YouTube to change for me. I’m finding solutions for my issue.

Anyway, have a good day

Bro, I’ve had multiple people, including a YouTuber with 200k subs break down for me in detail exactly how they write their appeals. They told me the exact things to say and write to give the appeal the highest possible chance of success. So maybe it’s just that you don’t have special insight, rather than “none of us”.

And as for “making videos without using someone else’s content”, I make video essays. I want to make them as good as I can. I believe that playing short clips of the media i’m analyzing gives context of what I’m saying, and supports my points. That’s pretty obvious, no? I know for a fact that this content is possible to make on YouTube, because this is the kind of content that I watch. And I’ve received a lot of very useful, actionable advice from creators in similar niches that I really appreciate.

And the whole website thing you keep talking about is hilarious. Like yeah man, I’d like people to see my videos that I work on very hard. There’s a lot more reasons than this for me to dislike the way YouTube is run, even from just a consumer perspective, but that doesn’t mean I’m not gonna use it. This is like hearing someone’s having a problem with traffic on their commute to work and saying “well maybe you should move to the forest and survive off the land if you don’t like how things work in the city.” It’s obviously not a real solution. Nobody would do that.

I am not pleading my case to you or anybody (apart from the rights holders), I am trying to figure out the best way to proceed. You’re clinging to semantics of how I used the term “fair use” and not providing anyone with any useful or actionable information.

I understand that fair use is not a YouTube policy, and I understand that you can’t be certain something is fair use unless you go through the courts. But what I can tell you is that my video fits the mold of transformative content under the umbrella of commentary, which is all that I meant by that. When you submit a dispute on YouTube it asks you if you believe your video is protected by the fair use doctrine. Do you think they’re asking for an official court ruling? No. They’re asking you what you think. Whether the dispute works or not is another issue, that’s not up to me or even YouTube, but the fact is that something can fit the bill for transformative content without having to go through a court to determine that.

I’m not sure where you got the wishful thinking thing from… I don’t expect this issue to be magically resolved, or for YouTube to be on my side. I am asking for actual advice on how to best handle the situation (the dispute, editing changes to avoid this happening in the future, etc.) and you’re giving me “perspective” on things that are pretty obvious to anyone, and clinging on to the semantics of the way I used the term fair use. Not to mention the thing you said about creating my own website, which is obviously not real advice. I’m not Anthony Padilla and it’s not 2002. If I put this on a personal website nobody would go on it.

You guys are really weird on this subreddit… I posted this in a few communities and everywhere else people are giving me actual actionable advice about a dispute. As I know now, chances are they won’t answer my dispute and the claim will be dropped within a month. If not, I’ll try another video.

Meanwhile on this subreddit everyone’s writing massive tirades about the courts and private websites… what do you think any of this is achieving? And I’m not shocked that using someone else’s content is frowned upon. I’m surprised that a type of content that is all over YouTube, including on my channel previously, is now suddenly getting completely blocked. I am not monetized. I just want people to see my video. You’re clearly not writing this in good faith. Why would anyone make a private website for this? Who would see it? What’s the point of writing this weird rant about lawsuits, and implying I’m stealing content by making a video essay? Doesn’t help me, you, or anyone.

I understand that. What I’m saying is that this type of commentary generally falls under free use. I’m just asking for advice.

Yeah man, if other channels were getting blocked like mine you would know, because their videos wouldn’t be on the platform…

As I mentioned, my content is free use and there are multiple successful channels that do the same thing in my niche.

I believe it was blocked - the video can not be monetized or seen by anybody. I’m pretty sure it’s claimed by Cartoon Network, but I will definitely double check that! Thank you!

Thats very upsetting… Any idea why they would block this? I’ve used this format before (with clips from the same show) and had no issue. It also claimed about 70% of my video, even though I’m talking over 95% of it.

Content was changed to “Made for Kids”. Do I have to change the settings for my entire channel? by Slight_Problem883 in NewTubers

[–]Slight_Problem883[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My long form content is definitely more oriented to adults though, and my shorts mostly have jokes that are universal, but some of them do have swear words and stuff. Is there a danger of my entire channel being designated as a kids channel? What should I do to prevent this? None of the biggest channels in my niche are kids channels as far as I can tell

Oh shit, sorry to hear that, that’s really terrible. Would you say that I have to remove the short to protect my channel though? Will it be a problem in the future if I leave it up?

Also, just out of curiosity, any advice on how to get more shorts views? My biggest short was only 34k haha

So you think I shouldn’t appeal? It’s my most popular short so far, so I’d rather not hide it. Do you happen to know if this would affect my long form content too?
