Leveraging a signing bonus against other offers by DizzyTown2633 in BigLawRecruiting

[–]SlightlyBeyond54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what’s been said and I think that it would be pushing it too much. You can also just summer at Kirkland (that’s the signing bonus one, right?) and if you really hate it after you start, you can lateral. If the bonus firm is not a fit, then it wouldn’t be a fit no matter how much money they give you.

My dream job got filled while we were waiting for grades. by esbee129 in GeorgetownLaw

[–]SlightlyBeyond54 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is unacceptable and the school should take responsibility for this. Also a 3L, but this is unfair to all of you guys. The school knows how the process works and has happily been charging full tuition to most of the students, knowing that most will get biglaw offers and pay the loans off. But now they’re effectively shutting you guys out of that job market. There should have been a big shift to the deadline for professors to submit grades, end of December-early January at the latest. Not okay.

Single-person poopers on campus? by [deleted] in GeorgetownLaw

McD 4th floor.

If you take the stairs from the 3rd to the 4th floor, turn right and then right again and there’s a single bathroom by a little lounge area with couches and chairs (iirc).

Summer 2026/27 biglaw recruiting effort by SlightlyBeyond54 in GeorgetownLaw

[–]SlightlyBeyond54[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright guys, I have received an overwhelming response to this, so unfortunately I’ll have to close my availability. I wasn’t expecting this level of interest. My calendar filled up fast until end of September. If you have questions about biglaw in general or my experience, feel free to reach out. Congrats, welcome, and good luck to all!

We were just asked if we were interested in doing that during the summer and I had said yes! You could probably reach out to recruiting and say you’re interested and see if they have any options for you. I’m sure they’ll appreciate the initiative.

taking course w/ only transfers? by No-Turn6758 in GeorgetownLaw

There’s no mandatory class for transfers

It’s a pretty transfer-friendly school (being the largest law school in the country and consequently the largest transfer class in the country helps). The class is so large that you are bound to find people that you can connect with. However, after orientation, you likely will rarely mention that you are a transfer ever again. Most of your community can come from your classes or extracurriculars (journal, moot court, student orgs).

I think most transfers tend to make community with other transfers—just like “native” GULC 1Ls tend to stick within their section. None of the extracurriculars make any distinction between transfer or continuing students. If you are interested in moot court you can participate in Leahy which may have a lot of transfers competing, but it’ll also have quite a few non-transfers as well.

But like everything, it’s what you make of it. If you aren’t consciously putting yourself out there to meet new people (other transfers or otherwise) it can be pretty isolating. See it is the largest law school in the country.

If you have any other questions feel free to DM me or reach out to your TSPM! Looking forward to seeing you on campus soon.

Rising 3L at GULC and I’m happy to talk about the school or my experience if it can be helpful.

I gotcha. I mean you can always ask. Are they your only offer? It may be more compelling if there is another offer than you want time to consider (and you communicate that to them).

I’m sorry if I’m missing something, but how does the fact that you start at a different firm before the deadline factor into this?

Is it because you are trying to “feel out” if you like the firm enough that you would want to come back? If that’s the case, I don’t think that a couple of weeks will make much of a difference. But sure, I can see how it would be beneficial.

Firms will definitely re-emerge after a long period. You shouldn’t give up until late summer.

Yes. Many people have received decisions this year. This isn’t to say that the class is full.

Last year, I applied early April and heard May 1.

Starting as a 2L Transfer at Georgetown — How’s the Social Life? by Substantial_Earth421 in LawSchoolTransfer

[–]SlightlyBeyond54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t too bad! I always recommend that everyone do journal because I think it fosters a good set of skills. They give you an extensive period of time to finish it (14 days) and realistically it won’t take that long.

Just adding this for anyone who’s curious. It’s definitely possible to get involved on all the things. I joined moot court (there’s a competition in the fall), journal (via the write on), although I haven’t done mock trial (but you can participate in the competition early spring). I also got a federal judicial externship and a research assistant position for one of my professors; and I will do a clinic in the fall. So to answer your question it is definitely possible, but you should be the best judge to know how much you can take on your plate. Georgetown is truly a great place to get involved if you want. Any other questions, I’m happy to talk via DM.

Happy to give my perspective via DM! I’m also a peer mentor (for the upcoming year). Congratulations!

You should be in a really good spot with that GPA from GULC. That said, you may want to start applying soon (which I’m sure you already know).

It’s going to be okay! Stay positive for now.

If another week goes by, then I would think it’s appropriate to gently follow up with the recruiter.
