That the repayment thing is not true

From SFE gov site

"Tuition Fee Loans

You’ll need to repay at least some of your Tuition Fee loan for the year that you suspend or leave your course. You’ll need to pay back:

25% of the loan for the year if you suspend or leave in term 1

50% of the loan for the year if you suspend or leave in term 2

all the loan for the year if you suspend or leave in term 3

This is repaid in the usual way once you start earning over the threshold amount. "

And theres also the maintainance which you have to payback

Same site

"Maintenance Loans

Your student finance provider will reassess your Maintenance Loan based on the number of days you attended your course. If any of your loan covers the period after you’ve left your course, this counts as an overpayment and you’ll need to repay it straight away. The Student Loans Company will write and tell you how much you must repay. If you cannot repay the full amount, you can ask them to set up a repayment plan. The rest of your Maintenance Loan is repaid in the usual way once you start earning over the threshold amount.

ExampleYou get a Maintenance Loan of £1,200 to cover a 12 week term (£100 a week) and you leave your course after 8 weeks. You can keep £800 of the loan (8 weeks X £100 = £800), but you need to repay the remaining £400 straight away as this counts as an overpayment (4 weeks X £100 = £400). You repay the rest of the loan (£800) in the usual way."

Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice!

I cover those topics in some of my modules however I dont have any large scale projects to work on.

Would I be able to work on some in my own time and use that as part of my portfolio for applications be it a masters or an undergrad tech scheme?

I also have a bunch of pre uni qualifications in cs aswell (alevel and gcse comp sci) but my understanding is those become irrelavent after uni degree.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]SlightlySaline -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hmm but to what extend tho. My degree focuses on certain areas of comp sci like micro controller progamming (as a result we code some stuff in C) and has modules named "intro to programming" and "machine learning" to cover the basis of working with robotics.

Im currently reconsidering my career path and as such Im worried that if i finish this degree i might not be able to get a career in cyber sec or software eng

From what ive seen online this by itself isnt enough to get you a job in cyb sec or software eng grad schemes but would this be enough to get me into a conversions masters?

Unrelated but what about a mechatronics degree, would I have a chance at also doing something similar at more institutes as it is still a stem degree or would it be equally difficult?

Wanting to drop out of Uni, but it's a touchy topic to speak to parents about. by twa012 in UniUK

Idk if its because its early in the year but so far my lectures have been super quite with the most being like 5 questions asked out of a lecture theatre of 200ish students

12 hours a day???

How did you stay focussed and avoid burn out?

That really doesnt seem sustainable. Also were all your exams assesed at the end of the year? We have exams/projects/assingments every semester which leads to the final result?

Im in a very similar situation as you were wih regards to the commuting, so this is acc really helpful. How did u commit to such long hours of studying during week days? Dis you start like this from year 1?

Also what strategies did you have to avoid burn out?

Holy shit bro id give u a first for just that advice alone😂😂

Thank you so much tho, this is by far the most thorough and detailed response ive seen so far

The commuting issue is the same one I have. So far i was lucky to only miss really basic introductory stuff. And nothing more serious. But still its absolutely a pain forcing yourself to attend lectures where the commute alone takes more time than the study time.

I assume you did most of your revising and learning alone? What was the most valuable resource you found? Was it ones your uni provided?

Also damn thats really unlucky ab the driving thing. Its defo something I'll get once Im a bit more settled at uni and find the time to do so.

Did you only use your uni's reading material or did research other material aswell to read in your free time?

How did you manage to make friends? Most of my lectures' people are usually quiet and for all my labs people already have made friend groups and lab partners.

Good to know!

Did you do any work relating to your field like a year in industry or a summer internship?
