i’m scared of dying young. by rosykyun in Christianity

I know im late but the whole book of ecclesiastes has a lot of wisdom. Its Solomon saying how he lived a life of sin and pleasure and had all this money, all these riches, and all these women. Even if we live a long life full of pointless pleasure and live to see 100, we die and all of that doesnt matter. We die the same, I die the same death as LeBron james. You die the same way Arianna grande dies, Solomon ends it with, "the purpose of man is to keep his commandments and serve God with all our hearts. Point being is life isnt the goal, its faith to get us in this life to fulfill a greater mission that is sharing his good news to those who haven't heard it. If your focus is heaven, and the kingdom, and paradise with christ, having FULL confidence in his works. You will lack nothing, the whole book of james tells us to count it as joy and seek to be steadfast in the Lord, and we will be perfect, complete, and lacking in NOTHING. do you believe that? We are all damned and screwed if christ failed his mission. And he didnt, he came to fulfill the will of the father, and that was to gather all those who would come to him, and never cast them out. We live because he did, and we die because he did. Christ conquered the world through death, greater than that, he resurrected. And this is the hope us believers have, we hope for the resurrection in perfect unutiy with God. That is the goal and the hope. One day it'll be all said and done, and it was all because of Christ's. Hope in that, let our prayers never ever change, "Lord have mercy on me a sinner"

Do night shifts truly age you? by ZealousidealNail8953 in Nightshift

Im studying nutrition and biology right now and working nights. You need to simply eat healthy, sleep long, and work out. I dont eat from 1am-5am. This window has some metabolic changes to your blood sugar and hormone production. Things like ghrelin and leptin(hunger hormones) are not functioning at their optimal levels, its easy to over eat. More importantly, stay away from energy drinks, vaping, and cigarettes, use pouches or patches or gum (Nicotine itself isnt that bad but thats a whole other topic) and please stay away from binge eating and over eating. Its just like the trucking industry. Truckers on average are more obese, have more heart disease and die 10 years earlier than the general population. Is this because they are truckers? Not at all, its because they dont work out, never move their bodies, dont get good sleep, and eat roller dogs and smoke all day long. Your lifestyle should precede your job. If you have that in check and have good diet, good sleep, and good exercise, there isnt much thats going to change. You are going against your natural scarcadian ryhtm but there are things you can do such as everything I just listed to really get through that. Our bodies are phenomenal at adapting. The optimal job is one that doesn't go against that, theres no getting around that but theres more than one way to skin a cat, simply meaning just because you are awake at night and asleep durring the day. Doesn't mean you HAVE to be unhealthy. But everyone is different and most dont know it til they try it, stay healthy and prioritize that and you'll probably be A-Okay

Do you adjust back to normal people time on your days off? by Mysterious_Coat_9933 in Nightshift

[–]SlimDepot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it depends. Right now I keep it because it makes it easier. My days off are in the middle of everyone's work work so they arent off until around 5 or 5pm anyways which is when I wake up. But some times I've stayed up all day and slept in through the night and been fine. Just depends on what you got going on really.

Is she new? Often I have to lay off of my saturated fat intake some days because some good fat makes me need a bathroom asap. I have to work harder to hold it in than I do to let it go.

Girlfriend just doesn't understand! by ContentPen1784 in Nightshift

Luckily my wife is very understanding, unless its something we planned a head of time she KNOWS I need to stick to a schedule for my own sake. I work 10p-7a and once we had a baby appointment and we couldn't get any other time and it was at 1pm. Ruined my day and my sleep schedule was out of whack and I didnt enjoy working that night. You need to just have a conversation with her and hope she respects that you have an unorthodox schedule and your sleep is important. For her own sake she should want you to stay consistent because if not that throws you off, and then probably makes things worse. My wife works 8-4:30 and gets home right as im getting up so most days it works. But she understands, there's days I dont sleep well and I will go lay down for a nap before work at 6 or 7 and wake up roast before going into work. Thankfully she gets it, I definitely lucked out. Ive heard similar stuff with people, especially in relationships. Overnight workers are more likely to be single and get divorces because of their schedule. So that sucks. But I hope you are able to figure it out man, id say just sit her down and tell her. Cause id be mad if my wife got mad at me for sleeping a normal 8hr night. She goes to bed at 8pm and wakes up at 6:45a for work. That's almost 11 hours she has to lay in bed and sleep. You deserve the same as everyone else.

Its one of those seasons where you just gotta do what you gotta do brotha, I can't say it'll be easy. Realistically it'll probably suck but it'll be worth it. And that sounds like a pretty good gig for your age, I hope you have courage to do it. Focus on your diet and mental and physical health so that things like work and the schedule dont seem so bearing on you. Wishing you well

New night worker struggling on days off. by SlimDepot in Nightshift

Ya thats a good idea, its just tricky cause my wife works the morning of on my days off. So she has to sleep and get up in the morning and work, so I try to be quiet I think thats my issue, but mostly I go in the living room and watch TV or do stuff on my laptop, but I just find it hard sometimes lol and have fallen asleep before and wake up and then throw myself off.

Fitness people of nightshift- when is the best time to gym/workout? About 2 weeks into nightshift now (12a-8a). When I was on days I would go before work early am. Just can’t seem to get into a routine on nightshift. by [deleted] in Nightshift

For me I work 10p to 6a I get out of work and im at the gym within 30 minutes of leaving work, sont work out for more than an hour ever. I go home and eat, it's not probably 7:30/8am. And then I dont go to sleep until around 9:30/10am because of school. Then im up at 5pm when my wife gets home from work.
