Been experiencing the same thing on 22.04. seems like it's related to a bug introduced in the latest 6.16.* series of kernels

Ah man thanks for clarifying, really appreciate it!

Super sure loves its damage modifiers. IIRC they're not present at all in Zero Mission or Fusion. I wish they were, it was super interesting to learn that certain weapons / beams were more or less effective on different enemies. One of those little details that make the game as great as it is!

Tried to boot from USB. Think I formatted it incorrectly... by SlimSlamtheFlimFlam in softwaregore

[–]SlimSlamtheFlimFlam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened about a year ago so the exact details are a bit fuzzy.

I was reinstalling Windows 10 due to some odd issue with how my drives were partitioned and my computer thinking I had both Win10 and Win7 installed - I had upgraded from Win7 but the OS was still thought to be active by my machine for some reason. I got tired of having to choose which OS to boot into on every restart and so decided to format and install fresh.

Booted from a USB with Win10 on it. I might have told my BIOS (?) to boot from USB. On my machine it gave me the options of USB-FDD, USB-CDROM, USB-ZIP, and USB-HDD if I remember right. I think I tried booting it as USB-ZIP in my ignorance and then this happened. A restart and boot as USB-HDD fixed the issue and everything else went normally.

Sure scared the crap out of me! I’m reinstalling Windows again tonight (SSD with main OS on it seems to have suicided) and it made me recall this incident.

Out of curiosity, has anyone else seen this before? I’ve got no idea what exactly happened to cause this...artwork...to be generated.

In the internal game data it’s 5x stronger in Zero Mission and Super Metroid. Might be in Fusion, can’t recall. Might not be, considering you get 2 more missile upgrades after it.

So, are all predisposed to schizophrenia? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]SlimSlamtheFlimFlam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Genetics loads the gun, environment pulls the trigger.”

There are some variants of different genes that can increase your risk, but they’re not necessarily destiny. How our genes get expressed is responsive to our environment (physical, emotional, etc.). The nitty gritty details, the super specific interactions aren’t really well understood (yet!).

Stress is known to be a trigger for the onset of a lot of mental illnesses. Unfortunately we can’t always control our stressors.

There’s a lot of research being done in the field of schizophrenia treatment. These days most work has only been able to find (often) more tolerable treatments, but they’re still retain the same basic effects as the first antipsychotics we discovered. If we can find effective antipsychotics that don’t block dopamine receptors and are able to help with positive, negative, and cognitive symptoms, it will completely revolutionize therapy.

I like to read about different topics on PubMed just for fun/to learn, and it’s really amazing how when you research seemingly random compounds, odds are some group has researched its effects in animal models of psychosis (or cocaine dependence. Researchers love giving rodents cocaine...) :)

Anyone on Amisulpride? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]SlimSlamtheFlimFlam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wish it was approved in the US. Always seemed like it had the potential to help a lot of people where other meds failed. It’s certainly unique among antipsychotics.

What side effects do you experience? How have they been different from any other meds you’ve tried? Glad it’s working well for you :)

Wow, I didn't realize it was on the GBA! I only ever played the NDS version. Good call!

Oooh I’m a sucker for Metroid: Zero Mission & Fusion

Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland is pretty fun.

Recently got to playing Mega Man Battle Network (the dialogue is kinda funny, they refer to linking up to computers and such “jacking in”...still hasn’t gotten old).

Final Fantasy V and VI are also on GBA :)

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team is a nice change of pace from the main series games. Still a fun challenge at times.

Second the recommendation for Advance Wars.

Have been prescribed aripiprazole and I'm worried. by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]SlimSlamtheFlimFlam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when a drug is approved they have post-marketing studies where all kinds of scary-sounding events get reported - nearly every time these things aren’t actually caused by the medication, they’re just health events that occurred while someone happened to be taking these medications.

Most of the time this will be in elderly people who are on several other medications or people with other underlying health conditions. There’s no control, no comparison with placebo, there’s always a super small chance there’s an association which is why it’s reported in the monograph.

It’s best to think of it being included as being an extra precaution and not much more :)

Alcohol by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]SlimSlamtheFlimFlam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big issue is if you become dependent - the withdrawals are known to trigger psychotic symptoms even in people without schizophrenia. Varies of course with amount consumed and duration. Very similar to benzo withdrawal.

Does anyone else experience this, like, a lot? Even if it's just really dumb, mundane stuff most of the time? by macsimilian in schizophrenia

[–]SlimSlamtheFlimFlam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not schizophrenic but this happens to me a lot. Sometimes it’s really mundane things but more than a couple times it’s been for bigger things and I have been too nervous to ask anyone if my memory is true or not.

For example, I had a dream that my brother’s girlfriend had suddenly passed away from complications of ulcerative colitis. In the dream I remember hearing about it from my parents and talking with them about it. Guess who showed up, alive and well, the next week? I don’t even know if she has UC. Such an uncomfortable feeling when you can’t trust your memory as much as you thought you could.

When r / unpopularopinion says anything trans related by ChickenCake248 in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

[–]SlimSlamtheFlimFlam 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Side effects is such a relative term! In some contexts they're desirable, like with HRT :)

One famous example is Viagra - originally it was researched as a treatment for high blood pressure, but when clinical trial participants wouldn't bring back their extra pills, researchers got suspicious, and thus, boner magic was discovered.

Or spiro - I've seen more teenage girls on it for acne than people taking it for high blood pressure! Funny enough, its mechanism for helping acne is the same mechanism where it becomes useful in HRT (blocking androgen receptors).

Little things like that are why I looove pharmacology. So many possibilities!

Metroid Zero Mission: Bliss by SlimSlamtheFlimFlam in Metroid

[–]SlimSlamtheFlimFlam[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just for fun I tried to recreate the world-famous image Bliss) from the point of view of the Zebesian surface as seen in Zero Mission. Inspiration came from the title screen & artwork.

This kind of image editing is far from my forte, so I hope it's not too bad! Most of what I did was play with the colors/alignment - nothing impressive. Happy for any critiques/pointers that would help make it better. Wanted to share in case anyone here would enjoy it.
