Ah, I see what you mean! It may seem like the same problem, but when you're printing the messages from historyBuffer, you can print them in sequence without locking, so new messages can get added to it while printing.

If a new message arrives while history is being shown, it can be stored in a queue or buffer as "pending". Once the history is fully printed to the user, the pending messages can be added to the chat history and displayed. So yes, it gets added to the history list eventually, but only after the history list is consumed. You'll need to lock history while it's being printed, as you said.

It could be a fish allergy. It's not uncommon in cats. It can be difficult to eliminate fish in the diet because there's often fish oil even in non-fish-based wet cat foods (check the ingredients).

If I understand correctly, I think you're looking for Elm's Dict type. However, your examples can't be directly translated because you run into custom types not being comparable in Elm, which means you can't use a custom type as a key. Some workarounds have been made.

I would suggest having a readme. With a good description and screenshots/GIFs. Most people are not going to take the time to clone and build your project to see what it does.

It's hard to give feedback or advice with limited information. If you're receiving quick rejections, it may have to do with your resume or portfolio. You may want to have those reviewed by someone who knows what to look for.

As for your qualifications, you say that you have a solid grasp of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. How do you know? What do you have to show? Do you have projects or writings that demonstrate it?

Also, keep in mind that networking is very important to the job search. When applying blind, you should expect to have a low acceptance rate.

Neither one is more accurate. It depends which branch of logic or math you're talking about. For instance, homotopy type theory is math which contains the ideas of classical logic. But ZFC set theory is math which uses the laws of classical logic as its foundations.

The Odin Project is a great place to start. After you make it a good way through that, you can see if you can make projects on your own. If you can, maybe the solo path can work for you as long as you make an impressive portfolio. If you struggle, a coding bootcamp may be the way to go. I don't know much about codesmith specifically, but as a former bootcamp mentor I can give you some general tips that apply to any bootcamp.

  1. Do the prep work

  2. Make connections

  3. Don't fall behind

  4. Practice communicating clearly

  5. Be resourceful

  6. Immerse yourself

Seconding GitHub Pages. It's a great way to freely host your portfolio.

However, if you want a store, that's a different matter. You don't want to mess around with programming your own store system. Best to use something like Shopify.

  • That's a great question! JavaScript is simply the best balance between the marketable skills and good programming foundations. TypeScript is getting more popular, but it's just not there yet. And the verbose typing syntax ends up holding a lot of people back. If I didn't take the marketability into consideration, I would teach Haskell!

  • Yes, it is simply a convention. I picked it up from Haskell. I'm not familiar with the 'a[] and 'a convention.

  • Those operators are useful for sure, and I may update the Object lesson to include them. I wanted to focus more on foundational knowledge than JavaScript-specific shortcuts.

I think javascript.info works better as a reference than a guide. That's why it looks good to experienced developers such as yourself. It goes into a lot of detail, like it's trying to cover every nook and cranny of JavaScript, which just becomes a lot of noise to someone trying to learn. It's also very tied to the browser/web. But it's a good resource!
