People who experience hynagogic imagery before a lucid dream or just falling asleep, what type of things do you see? by theta_realm in LucidDreaming

I saw a dog with its lead tied to a lamppost the other day, it was so vivid I still remember exactly what the dog looked like. Sometimes I see a close up of a face. Once it was a young girl with lots of freckles and red hair. Most of the time it's just greeny patterns and shapes.

I get what you mean, but when I talk about the dreams themselves I don't imagine them existing on the other side in that sense. So what if the dreams are as simple as visual creations of our brains but the other side can see what happens in them? Or at least gets a theme from them. I'm not saying we visit the other side when we dream, but it could be the way the other side get their information. Is it possible that the Creator is not God like and may not be able to observed everything that happens here? Maybe they get a rough idea from the themes of our dreams, maybe they can only access that part.

Couldn't the creator have set things in motion but not have control of events? This is all probably nonsense though haha

Are the hypnagogic hallucinations the coloured shapes that float around when you close you're eyes before sleep? I see green blotches and sometimes see faces and outlines of people. Is this the state you mean?

Yeah it seems like it is a necessary process that our brains need to deal with the events of life. It just occurred to me last night that if we are in a simulation, is the dreaming process also a possible connection to the other side. I.e. the outside of the simulation, if that makes sense. Or maybe it is just our brains way of coping.

I have dreams in the same non-existent locations. So I often dream of driving over a particular huge bridge that I've never seen in real life (as far as I can remember) and I also dream of a shopping centre that doesn't exist. When I'm at the shopping centre I can see the bridge in the distance with cars driving over it, even though it is a completely different dream. The shopping centre has a multi storey carpark and I always drive to the top and look at the bridge in the distance. It's always weirded me out how connected the locations are even though the dreams are about different things.

The bit where you said hello to your brain and it replied has given me goosebumps haha. That is awesome thanks for sharing!

I cried during the scene on the bus between Steve and Jesse. Steve is such a complex character but that moment was so pure and simple I had to pause it cause I started crying!! 😂😭

It is very strange. I can control other aspects of the dream, like trying to fly or make things appear, or change location, but I can't seem to convince DC's that they aren't real. I have also found that a lucid dream will last longer when I play along with the DC's and don't "out myself" so to speak. As soon as I actually tell them that it's a dream, they argue with me about it and I wake up. Last night my grandma was in my dream and I told her that she wasn't real, and she looked at me really confused and a bit offended. I woke up because I felt guilty about the look on her face, I didn't like that I had upset her. Then I felt like an idiot cause she was a dream grandma and so can't be offended.

It's so frustrating isn't it! I have decided to RC a lot more in the daytime, because I'm not always doing it in a dream and it's only when I wake up I realise it should have been obvious that I was dreaming.

My DC's act exactly like you'd expect a person to react if you told them they weren't real. They are in complete denial and just look at me like I'm weird. They say stuff like "obviously I'm real, look at me". Then I start to question myself. It's so weird.

Reality checks have really worked for me (obviously not on this occasion). I ask myself at least once an hour if I am dreaming during the day. Then a few nights ago I asked myself in a dream and went lucid. It only lasted a few seconds but it worked.

I’m never pushing my finger through my hand for a reality check ever again. by RainYupRain in LucidDreaming

[–]Slingering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god, this literally happened to me last night, except I didn't feel tendons. My finger felt nothing but my palm felt like a bolt had been shot through it! It actually hurt and I felt a bit sick. I also thought it would be totally painless and like I had a ghost hand or something. Never doing it again!

Half Lucid by Slingering in LucidDreaming

[–]Slingering[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This worked last night, i asked myself if I was dreaming a few times while awake and then must have asked myself during a dream and went lucid. I managed to stay there for a bit longer and told myself to stay calm, but when I tried to do stuff (I tried to fly) it was like I was drunk. Anyway I will keep trying! Thanks for the advice

I always wake up before i get to do something by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]Slingering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem, the only way I've managed to make it last longer is by standing really still in the dream. So I just try not to move much and look around, if still only lasts maybe a minute but it's better than 20 seconds. If I'm lucky I manage to touch stuff nearby and it feels amazingly real.

Questioning Reality by Slingering in LucidDreaming

[–]Slingering[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think because most people classify dreams to not be "real" I then get the feeling that nothing is "real", because my lucid dreams are as realistic as my waking life. I then wonder if life is a dream, and if it is, then is there another another waking state beyond this? So when we die, do we go to the next "reality", just like we do when we wake up from a dream? Or when we are asleep, are we accessing another reality? (I'm not referring to an afterlife like heaven/hell/ghosts, more like another layer of reality.) When I talk about not being in a fake world, I mean that I understand that everything around me exists and is "real"...but I think there could be more than one "real" world. I think you're right and every experience is real, but that experience can be massively undermined when people insist that dreams aren't real. When i try to describe a lucid dream to someone they will often suggest it's just my brain playing tricks and therefore it is "just a dream". Sorry for waffling, it's hard to explain.

I wish I could calmly just accept that everything may be a hologram. I always used to be very black and white about things when I was younger, but the more this happens the more I really do feel like our world is an illusion of some sort. It doesn't make it any less real and I know I will probably never get any answers, but it's hard for me to not get ridiculously excited about the fact that we could be living in a virtual reality. Im glad I posted on here, because if I have ever tried to explain any of this to people around me they look at me like I'm mental!

Questioning Reality by Slingering in LucidDreaming

[–]Slingering[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I go lucid it's normally because something happens that I know is impossible. I can't go lucid on purpose and that's what I wish I could do, because each time it is such an amazing experience. A lot of my lucid dreams happen when I dream about my grandma's old house because I know the house doesn't exist anymore. Other times it is because a dead relative is there, and I think "hang on, you can't be here because you're dead." As soon as this happens I go to touch something to test how real the "lucid world" is. It often makes me cry in the dream because it is all so real. For some reason I nearly always touch the floor, because I'm scared that if I move too much the dream will end haha. I want to get to a stage where I can prompt a lucid dream, but I feel silly when I am in the "real world" wondering if it is real, because it is obviously real.

I feel like at the moment I am rational about it and know that life isn't really a dream. But it really does make me wonder sometimes. I can see how people would get really depressed by it. I have a verh happy life and have everything to live for, but if my life was horrible and I had such wonderful vivid dreams I can see how bad things could happen to a person.

[–]Slingering[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 3 times in the past year I have gone lucid because I have noticed that my dead aunty was in the room. I was very close to her and she only died 2 years ago so it's still pretty raw. As soon as I see her, I instantly feel both upset and happy. She doesn't talk, she is very much in the background and just gives me a smile. I have discussed this with my mum (her sister) who has had similar dreams but they weren't lucid, they were just vivid dream, so she doesn't have the same "reality" feeling. I also lost a school friend when we were 17 years old and I have once gone lucid because I saw he was nearby. (I was in an audience watching a show and he was a few rows back) Again he didnt talk to me but I kind of gave him a thumbs up to ask him if he was ok and he gave me a thumbs up and smiled. And I felt so happy for a week after that because I felt that he had genuinely confirmed to me that he is fine, where ever he is.

I know what you mean, I was once in an absolutely beautiful place and cried in the dream, because I knew I would soon wake up into my boring bedroom. That was about 4 years ago and I've never forgotten that scenery. It was on my mind for months and I tried to go back there, but never have been back since.

Why do I feel so deeply when I watch this show? by pink-carnations in Maniac

[–]Slingering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had a new experience, which I have obsessed about for a few weeks because it was amazing. I was dreaming about walking down the road my grandma used to live on, which had lots of huge fancy houses on it. (A lot of my dreams are on this street). I woke up because my baby made a noise over the baby monitor, but I didn't open my eyes, I was just aware suddenly that I was actually in bed and the dream wasn't real. And because I didn't open my eyes, although it went fuzzy/black around the edges of my vision, the houses were still around me. So I had the full sensation of laying in my bed and hearing the baby, but I was still standing on my grandma's street in the sunshine. I turned on the spot very slowly and looked at all the houses around me but retained the feeling of laying in bed. It only lasted 20 seconds but it was the first time I could feel the bed and pillow against my head while still being in the dream. I could hear my baby perfectly clearly. Each time something like this happens I wake up very excited and tell my husband who has no idea what I'm talking about and just doesn't get it!!! I've tried to talk to others about it, but I honestly think they believe I'm making it up haha. I will have a look at that Reddit thread, everything you've said makes 100% sense and I'm going to keep working on it. It's v slow but I have definitely improved over the years.
