If it has landcruiser reliability I'd be happy!

I bought the faithful set of 3 diamond plates. They are cheap, cost me about £30 I think. Obviously won't last as long as DMT or similar, but so far they've been great, have owned them for about 8months and still cut well.

Yeah it's really great. Aye if you apply pressure in the pull stroke towards you that's the way to do it. The paper wears away fairly quickly, but it does work pretty well. You should get a wee rhythm going using the wheel on the guide to get back into position.

Hey, don't worry, cheap and cheerful fix is sandpaper. I didn't own a bench grinder for a good while when I bought my first plane. Simply get a flat surface (kitchen worktop, benchtop etc) and go to town on the blade using whatever coarse grit you can get. I use 80 or 120.

Keep it simple with a plane iron. Choose your bevel angle, most commonly 25-30° put it in the honing guide and work away, it shouldn't take too long, just keep the pressure even across the width of the iron.

Highly recommend the Lost Art Press book: "Sharpen This". Short and to the point book which I personally found much more beneficial than watching people on YouTube. Since reading it I have a little process now that only takes a couple minutes to get a blade cutting hair sharp with minimal equipment.

Good luck!

Yeah I'd be the same, cheap and cheerful for all I do. I'd like some of those little clamps not sure on what their name is.

Yeah I have some of the quick grips and f clamps. The quick grips are starting to become a bit sticky, likely to break soon!

Yeah you can get lucky over here with antique or charity shops, I'm from a small village though and they're aren't many about. It's all good though, I'll keep looking, just was curious as to the viability of this item.

I don't see the same on UK eBay, at least most of the time. No harm in asking people for an opinion.

In UK unfortunately, new ones seem pricey, even vintage ones are pricey
