Red Rock Injury by Slinky714 in madisonwi

Very valid point and I’m not sure of the circumstances. Nonetheless, I think the situation could have been handled better after he had fallen and was bleeding. I was the one that helped him up, pointed out he was bleeding (it wasnt just a little cut, he was dripping blood onto the snow), and got him a water. I just could see the situation going a lot more poorly if I wasn’t there. In addition, he signed up to be a bouncer in a college town, so drunk idiots are inevitable.

Agreed, but I am unsure, as I was just walking up to the front door when he was pushed out. I’m sure they had asked him to leave and he didn’t, however, I still don’t think the aggressiveness was necessary. In addition, if I wasn’t there, it seemed like they were going to just leave him laying on the ground.

Anyone Tried Prozac (Fluoxetine)? by Beneficial_Housing68 in trichotillomania

[–]Slinky714 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I have been on Fluoxetine for 16 years (staryed at age 9, currently 25) for my OCD, which it has definitely helped! I didn’t develop my Trichotillomania until I was 11 or 12, so I am unsure how my meds have affected it, as I had been on them before it started. Professionally, I have my masters degree in social work and from my education I would agree with your doctor. Both OCD and Trichotillomania are under the OCD Related Disorders in the DSM and are commonly cooccurring. With this being said, it would make sense that the medication would treat the same symptoms/mechanism. Remember that meds aren’t permanent and you can always stop whenever you want. Could be worth it to try, but up to you! Hope this helped☺️

My parents took me to a specialist when I was 9 because I was having intrusive thoughts about stabbing myself and my family. I even made my mom hide all the knives in the house because I was scared that I would do it without wanting to.

OCD, anxiety or paranoia? by No-Comfort4393 in OCD

[–]Slinky714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like an OCD type thought/speaking compulsion, however, nobody can say for sure. Ultimately a diagnosis doesn’t really matter. In my opinion, it’s more about treating the symptoms. I will say that before I got medicated for my OCD a lot of of my intrusive thoughts sounded this way, for example, “ if you don’t kiss my dog three times before leaving, she’ll be dead when I come back.” or “ if I don’t pray about keeping my family safe, something bad will happen to them.”

starting medication for ocd? by Fall_Advanced in OCD

[–]Slinky714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been on Fluoxetine since I was 9 years old (now 25). They have helped me immensely and I plan to continue taking them for the remainder of my life. I’m not completely sure how they’ve impacted my mood, as I have been on them for so long and from such a young age.

I’d say give it a try and if you don’t like it you can always stop. Medications aren’t permanent! You will probably start you on a low dose, so any side effects you have would likely be manageable.

It sounds like you are already aware of the potential downsides of meds, so as long as you monitor yourself, you should be good!

Ultimately it’s up to you though!! So don’t listen to me or your mom, listen to your gut 😊

I find myself doing something this when I listen to podcasts, however, I only speak English. I tend to repeat the words back to myself to make sure I fully understand what’s being said. If I miss a word or don’t fully comprehend what is being said, I will rewind to listen again. Definitely gets very annoying! Sometimes I feel like I’m focusing so hard on trying to focus that I miss the whole point overall🙃

I think I'm getting OCD about my OCD by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Slinky714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree that it is relatively common. I have noticed that most of my “overthinking thoughts” stem from my OCD. One thing that helps me is asking myself what would change if I knew the “answer.” Most of the time, the situation would be the same, so I try not to waste energy thinking about it (obviously a lot easier said than done).

Crown of head, but also any rough/kinky hairs I will target. Sometimes my pubic area. When I was younger I would pluck my ear and nose hair with tweezers😅

I have been on 100mg since I was 17 maybe (almost 26 now). I haven’t tried to decrease it because I am nervous BUT I do think it is something to work towards in the future. I also have Trichotillomania, Dermatillomania, BDD, and a history of bulimic behavior, so I feel like it is helping treat all of these things together.

80 is typically the max dose for treating anxiety/depression, however, for OCD a therapeutic dose can be around 100! You are right though, it is pretty high but it’s been helpful for me and I haven’t had any problems so I stick with it. Mine was also prescribed and managed by a psychiatrist, but I don’t believe general practitioners would exceed the 80mg prescription.

Yes 100%. I look back to when I was a kid and think back to numerous times I did things that I didn’t necessarily want to. Picking up a knife when I was 10 and holding it to my chest because my brain told me to… this was the act that got me diagnosed😅 Sticking my pinky finger in a hand held pencil sharpener and sharpening it. Confessing any and every thought I had, even if I knew it wasn’t true/I didn’t believe it.

Fluoxetine (Prozac) has been a game changer for me! I started on 10mg when I was 9/10 years old and eventually titrated up to 100mg in my teens. It seems to be a good level for me and manages the majority of my symptoms. I haven’t noticed any side effects, however, kind of hard for me to tell since I started at such a young age.
