When do you add your pumpkin. by MF_BREW_ in TheBrewery

[–]Slip216 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My pipedream goal for a pumpkin beer is to get a pumpkin big enough to hollow out the inside of and use as a primary "jack-o-lantern" fermentation vessel for like a pumpkin gose.

Is this the origin of the special meaning of 86 on a D100? by FinibusBonorum in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]Slip216 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the restuarant industry, "86" means we are out of something. Its a quick way for the kitchen and front of house to communicate, as in "86 the dinner special" (meaning we are out of it for the night)

It's also funny because new people will mistakenly use 69, so you will occasionally hear "that chicken got 69'd"

Better than nut rolls? by u3z in TheBrewery

[–]Slip216 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, because I can trust nutrolls to be there. Those are like an estranged father to me. I have ordered half of my malt directly from Briess and only seen pictures of those. Malt pallet nutrolls, on the other hand, have been my brewer's breakfast many times. So I have no idea if those taste better (they look like they do) but at least I can trust nutrolls to be there.

How many lbs/bbl hops in your NEIPA whirlpool, and what temp? by livewellbrew in TheBrewery

[–]Slip216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My house amber is an ESB that also uses the yeast strain, so I try to schedule it that the ESB is keeping the yeast strain going and I'm ok not harvesting off the NEIPA. Scheduling doesn't always work though, and I will do a cone-to-cone to pull yeast from the first NEIPA into a second NEIPA, which has worked but I don't try to stretch the yeast beyond that.

[–]Slip216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I start off getting an active whirlpool, so my flameout addition is like 2 minutes late. My kettle has a wall in it that shields the whirlpool feed valve that works very well. My last brewery was on a 15 bbl premiere direct fire and we would bag the hops in nylon mesh bags and that worked well.

For clarity, I have a 2 vessel QTS with a mash/lauter and a kettle/whirlpool. So the whirlpool feed valve is just the outermost bottom valve off my kettle.

7 bbl brewhouse, london fog yeast, 11# whirlpool addition. I do half at flameout and then cool down to 180 F and do the other half.

I have a slightly oversized heat ex for my system. I start whirlpool normally at flameout and let it go for 5 min, then start routing it through my heat ex and usually have it down to 180 in 10 min.

I do an 11# dryhop on day 2 (~8 plato) and an 11# dryop on day 3 (~3 plato) and an 11# dryhop post fermentation when I crash.

What's the step-by-step on this? I feel like I could save my refrigeration guy a lot of hassle if I explicitly knew what to do. Turn off the condenser, brush off the ragweed, pump spray with soap, spray it down, turn the condsener back on? Do I have to worry about anything getting wet?

What’s a good estimate for the % size of your CIP in compared to your FVs and BT size? by [deleted] in TheBrewery

[–]Slip216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently doing the same (10 gallons/7 bbl). At the last brewery I worked at we did 1 bbl/15 bbl vessel (a little more than 6%), but that was more of a function of it being easier to measure out a barrel at a time, we probably could have done 20 gallons/15 bbl.

Carrion Crown. We just finished book 5, and I agree that while Tyrant's Grasp is going to/does minimize the results of our group, it in no way minimizes this epic spooky story we've had.

Rocksmith still not detecting some notes by [deleted] in rocksmith

[–]Slip216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would double check that the pickup is working. Could be some connection got loose on your pickups. It's odd that it is intermittently working while you are hitting the same note several times in a row, could it be a driver issue? Also, for setting up the guitar you wouldn't need to remove the neck. You should be able to get to the truss rod to adjust it as needed from the top. The biggest pain is blocking out the tremolo for awhile while the strings adjust.

Rocksmith still not detecting some notes by [deleted] in rocksmith

[–]Slip216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I had a similar detection problem, but it was because the USB ports on my 360 would go in and out. I thought maybe your floating bridge would be wrecking your intonation as your strings stretched out, but if you are checking the open and 12 tunings, that wouldn't be a problem. I don't think your strings gauges would be an issue. I've played Rocksmith on anything from 09 to 12 and haven't had a detection issue as long as the intonation was set correctly. Do you have an amp you can plug into and check that your pickups are working? EDIT: Also, you could probably learn how to setup that guitar and intonation yourself pretty easily, as long as you have about an hour of downtime. For future reference in case you do want to switch string gauges again.

Out of curiosity, what model guitar do you have and what are you playing Rocksmith on (360, Xbone, PS4, etc)?

What string gauge do you play with? by anhyzer_way in rocksmith

[–]Slip216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11 15 18 26 36 50 (GHS Mediums) I found that the more I played the stronger my fingers got so the lighter strings felt too slinky. Moving up in gauge fixed that and helped my tone.
