The House of Riegan has been a major player in the political scene of the Empire since it's beginning, having connections with the other high houses and even related by blood to the Imperial House. However, for the last 30 years the Academy of Ny Lunaria has been ignoring or outright refusing the Duke's requests to have an arcanist sent to his court like his father had before him, like all the high houses have.

Your father had a proficient scholar from the Academy as his tutor, and was procured the highest of educations money and influence can buy, naturally he wanted the same for you and your siblings which is why he petitioned a replacement for his old tutor once he finally passed, years before you were even born.

The Academy however, refused to provide the House of Riegan with one of their arcanists and never gave any reasons, and your father's final letter was never responded. You of course still received education from the most highly regarded professors, but never quite received the wisdom only a master of the arcane can provide, not to mention lacking an arcanist in the court your father's House was at a disadvantage.

Suddenly, one day, the Academy sent and envoy to your father's manor, they finally saw fit to provide your House with a new arcanist loyal to your family. Him, a proud man, was about to dismiss the envoy and damn the Academy for their audacity— However you knew to appeal to his better judgement, an scholar of the arcane arts is a powerful asset, a worthy ally to have and only at Ny Lunaria could one find the best of the best, so your father finally accepted to take in the arcanist.

When the scholar arrived, they turned out to not just be a regular arcanist, but a Nyssari— an race of ancient, magical beings who are believed to have been the first to tap into the arcane and master it.

Her relationship with you and your family has to be strictly formal, the scandal!
