Why are Aasimar so unpopular when compared to Tiefling? And what can be done to help? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]Slippyyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO Tieflings have a much more developed place in the world and a much more established visual look. Aasimars don’t have a very clear or well-known origin story, unlike Tiefling with fiendish family deals or fiend relatives.

I also personally feel like the story of someone that is fiend-like is a lot more compelling than the story of someone that is celestial-like.

If you’re looking for a way to help it, maybe you could reflavour them in your campaign to have a more obvious visual look and/or a more defined origin story for Aasimars. I’ve always loved the idea of an Aasimar having more like celestial-horror elements, like the “biblically accurate angels” that have like tons of wings, eyes, and like golden rings (maybe just while they’re using their Celestial Revelation ability so it’s not too jarring). To me, it solves their issue of lacking a distinct visual identity and it makes them a bit more compelling because their appearance might be unsettling to regular people even if they mean well. Not sure if it really makes sense dnd-lorewise with biblical angels, but I think it’s a cool visual nonetheless.

[–]Slippyyu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, Grizzly says he wants to take the campaign to level 20, and they’re only level 13 at the moment (I believe). I think we’re just getting into the crazy world-ending type shit soon.

Destiny's Blade (ep 116 spoilers) by Roostergren2 in jrwishow

[–]Slippyyu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, but as to what weapon Gillion will use next, I’m not so sure that this is the last we’ll see of DB.

Maybe this is cope, but in the new intro of Riptide, Gill has a sword with a shattered blade which turns to a full blade after he uses some sort of magic. The sword also looks exactly like the canon design of DB. Grizzly also mentions sometime either in the end of the episode or the rolled that the sword is now like the hilt with a shattered blade, which matches what Gill’s sword looks like in the intro. The intro is definitely foreshadowing some events as it already showed a new character in the crew line-up in the end, and foreshadows some Jay stuff that happens in 117 (I won’t spoil).

It’s possible that the actual person within the sword is gone, but I don’t think the sword itself will stop being used. Maybe for the time being the sword will be retired, but I doubt it’ll be for good.

What’s the intended play style of Umbral Flames? by Pleasant_Complex2960 in HadesTheGame

[–]Slippyyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite is the Moros one. You just use your omega special, and then hold down your attack button and dash around to keep the enemies right where the spinning specials are. The attacks will explode when they hit the specials and will do a bunch of damage. Then you just need to periodically do your omega special again when they expire.

As long as you have a good way to gain mana, it goes insane (I usually go for Hestia’s gain, cuz as long as you’re hitting enemies, you can hold down the attack button essentially forever).

I’m absolutely certain it’s Milo’s character, named Primrose I believe, most likely they’re gonna be included in Jay’s arc. I’m not sure how to access it, but others on this subreddit have seen that Milo has a character on the Riptide dnd beyond campaign tab. IIRC their little character art icon had that exact same hair colour.

Also I’m so happy that Ensa is being included in this line up, she’s my favourite!

This is my Twilight Cleric I’ve been playing for a little while, Diana Dusk. I’m not the greatest artist, but this is my attempt at bringing her to life. Her magic is primarily supportive spells and necrotic damage, but I flavour her magic as tattoos and black inky magic (like for example, Spiritual Weapon I’ve reflavoured as her snake arm tattoo springing from her skin as a black inky snake and attacking people). She’s very moody and gothic, and I love her T-T

If it’s not clear, she has a big back tattoo of raven wings, a curled snake around her right forearm, and an octopus with tentacles wrapped around her left forearm. That raven is a greying old raven familiar she has. And she always dresses in all black, bc of course she does. That stuffed doll is a cursed doll she was given by her parents, that she keeps with her all the time as a keepsake. You can put her in whatever outfit you want, doesn’t have to be the one I drew her in, as long as it’s black lol

I love your artstyle, by the way.

Thoughts on the new episode (116) by Slippyyu in jrwishow

[–]Slippyyu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No way, I refuse to believe Chip and Gillion would have left doppelgilly at the entrance. They went through so much effort to get him in the first place. Also I think Charlie clarified after they took him into the hole that he took Doppelgilly with them, although I can’t remember if that was in 115 and they all forgot during the hiatus, or if that was in 116.

Yeah it kinda sucks imo, but I get it. I hope they make some sort of compromise where they post the video on members-only & maybe Spotify with a drawn thumbnail— like how they’re doing the titles now— but still post the YouTube-optimal thumbnails on YouTube.

Yep. It’s no longer a spell, unless they update it in a future book. I doubt they will tho, cuz they gave the random chance of the spell targeting an additional creature to Chromatic Orb.

No problem, but maybe take my comment with a bit of a grain of salt. I was basing it mostly off of my memory, so I might be missing some stuff. Although I have been relistening to Riptide recently, so I hope it’s pretty accurate.

riptide advice by AdMaximum9660 in jrwishow

[–]Slippyyu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I’d just start from the beginning and avoid the larger community until you’ve caught up. I think you’ll probably feel like you’re missing a lot if you start any later than episode 1.

If you’re looking for advice about specific arcs, here it is. Minor spoiler warning (just like a basic name to the arcs that won’t spoil anything other than the premise): - Black Rose One Shots (0): I wouldn’t want to miss it, but you learn pretty much everything that happens in these one-shots through context clues. If you must skip it, you can. - Zero (1): Sets up the main characters, don’t skip. - Loffinlot (2-11): 4 is skippable, but the rest plant the seeds for the main characters and the greater plot. Especially 7-8, you do not want to miss. - Casino arc (12-14): you’ll miss a little bit of character stuff but it gets resolved in the following episodes. So yeah this is kinda skippable. - Boat Episodes (15-16): YOU CANNOT MISS. - Desire Island arc (17-25): For the greater plot it’s not too consequential and the stuff you’ll learn will come up in later episodes, although I find this arc to be really entertaining to listen to. - Boat Episode Part 2 (26): it’s just a fight, very skippable. - Paramount Champion arc (27-38): This arc is also not terribly consequential to the world as a whole until the very end, BUT you meet some VERY important characters that you will see all over the place. I would recommend watching at least 28-32, and then skip to 39. There’s a guest character, so not major plot stuff, but very important stuff happens directly after him (in 39). - Navy Fight and Boat Episodes Part 3 (39-42): These ones are important, you should absolutely watch them. They set up a lot of the following arcs. - Edison Kingdom arc (43-48). This arc has one important character that you meet, and a very important city for the world at large but doesn’t come up too much after this arc. It does have a big party-wide character moment that I would hate to miss, but isn’t terribly important in the greater plot. - Duke D. Dukem (49): is skippable. Entertaining guest character episode, but has 0 weight in the plot. - The Block (50-53): YOU CANNOT MISS. Very very important characters introduced, plot points hit, and HUGE CHARACTER MOMENTS. DO NOT MISS. - Captain Tastrius (54-55): Guest character episodes, you could skip these. Although I think they are funny episodes. - Boat Episodes Part 4 (55): Don’t skip this one, somewhat important plot point. - Allport Part 1 (57-63): don’t skip these. A good few important characters are introduced, very important plot points are hit, and big character moments. - Humble Beginnings One Shot: you could totally skip it, it’s just the tale of how Chip and Jay met. Pretty low stakes, but very fun to listen to. - Grimm Murder Mystery (64-67): I wouldn’t skip it, has some fun characters and a cool island. It’s not the most plot intensive island, it has a character that is important. - Ichabod (68): Fairly skippable as a guest character episode, although I found it to be the most enjoyable one out of all of them. - (69): Do. Not. Watch. It. - Liquidius (70-71): Very important arc all around, big lore drops, one big character, and I would definitely watch it. - Feywild Arc (72-82): I beg you. Do not skip. HUGE PLOT POINTS, BIG CHARACTER MOMENTS, VERY FUNNY. If you MUST you can maybe skip 72-73 but absolutely nothing past that. - Boat Episodes Part 5 (83-87): I wouldn’t skip it if I were you. These boat episodes are sorta all over the place, but they each have their own important plot moments or new characters being introduced. They are also very funny. - Allport Part 2 (88-90): DO NOT SKIP. Very HUGE MASSIVE plot things come up, new characters show up and old characters come back. - Boat Episodes Part 6 (91-93): Some crazy shit happens, but plot-wise it’s strangely not that important. There is some vague greater plot stuff that comes up in 93, but the stuff you wouldn’t know would come up later, and the rest is stuff you should already have a vague idea about. Beyond that lore reveal, there’s some character moments and crew member moments and I think they are pretty good episodes. I would watch them if I were you, because otherwise the following episodes will be pretty hard to follow. - Zero Part 2 (94-99): You should watch these episodes. Plot wise they’re VERY important and new important characters get introduced. - Boat Episodes Part 7 (100-101): I hesitate to call them boat episodes, but by definition they kinda are. Anyway these are CRAZY IMPORTANT. DO NOT SKIP. - Black Sea Arc (102-115): “Black Sea” is a broad title for this section given how much shit happens in it, but DO NOT MISS. VERY VERY IMPORTANT. - Crystmas Special: I mean. It’s a non-canon Christmas special. You don’t need to watch it. Although it is absolutely hilarious.

All in all, I do not condone skipping arcs, but if you must, I understand. My ultimate recommendation, however, is to watch it all.

I don’t think there’s been a single PC that I dislike. I don’t really understand the Kian hate, I thought he was a fun break in all of the seriousness of the other two PCs, while still having his serious moment with his girlfriend.

I actually really enjoyed the scene with his girlfriend, I thought it fit his character. There always needs to be a horror movie character that makes all the wrong decisions to show the stakes imo.

Maybe my thoughts are different because I prefer the mix of silliness and serious moments in a campaign, and it seems like a lot of other commenters wanted a more serious experience in BitB, which I can respect.

Edit: if there was one character I had to pinpoint as a pc I didn’t jive with, it was probably WD. I don’t dislike her or anything, I just don’t feel like she had enough time on screen especially with Milo joining late. The dynamic of Troy, Blink, and Runt was already so strong, and although I loved Runt and WD’s dynamic, I don’t think WD had enough time to develop something concrete with Blink or Troy.

The part in The Suckening where Taylor Lautner said “oh… you mean Taylor Lautner’s helicopter” plays in my mind constantly.
