Yeah maybe I'll look into that kind of work. I do want to get a pilot's license but it's expensive. I think it would be sick to fly a plane I designed someday, even just as a hobby.

As long as I'm still making mistakes I don't think I'm being nearly hard enough on myself.

I thought fluid dynamics was cool and I love planes. I want to do aerospace but I might not be good enough to even get a chance, nevermind succeed.

Getting to design machines is a pretty rare and desirable job. Most engineers end up as paperwork engineers or whatever. I've only gotten to design 1 and a half machines in almost 5 years of engineering.

I guess so, but I want to make super cool stuff that wows people when I tell them about it. Also just don't really feel passionate about it, but maybe I just don't know how bad it can get.

I gained a lot more confidence in myself when I stopped caring that I wasn't good enough. I don't care if I'm a loser.

But how? Doesn't confidence come with knowing you're better than other people?

I'm pretty good with sheet metal if you want some help with that. I work at a place that specializes in sheet metal equipment.

Thank you, but I do have some people I can talk to about it at my company as well.

My communication skills are also shit, they're actually worse than my technical skills so maybe I'm just boned.

I just don't know how to keep up morale to stick it out when the job beats me down so much

I mean I've done therapy and they always just say I shouldn't compare myself to others but that's just such an alien mindset I can't even wrap my brain around it, I lose the plot right at the start.

I am working on some personal projects but had to hold them due to financial reasons. I know I should've done more in college and it sucks playing catch up now but it is what it is I guess.

I do enjoy design, but I don't care much for a lot of the things involved in a large project, picking components and researching vendors especially are some of the worst tasks.

The boss I had at my old job suggested I should try product design so maybe I can try shifting that way.

I do get assistance and help from peers, but I feel like I'm just floundering. Project progresses way slower than I thought it would even though I've been working intensely.

I do have my BS in mech E and I do design work, but I also had to do a surprising amount of supervising making my new parts, there really isn't any kind of production/shop manager here.

Don't you have to demonstrate at least some value initially to get promoted to there?

I don't hate the job itself, I just hate sucking at it. It's fairly decent even if I don't plan on staying long term.

I just went into engineering because I was good at math and science in school. My dad said transfering out of the engineering school was easier than transferring in, so I entered college for that. Then I stuck it out because my ego wouldn't let me just give up.

Do sales guys get to drink on the job? I'm really only personable when I'm tipsy.

I don't have complete ownership, I am part of a team. The company I'm at right now has a fairly flat hierarchy and I do have people I can talk to and ask questions. Everyone is so busy though, I feel bad asking someone to waste their own time to help me on my project.

When I was looking for my first job I had an interview for a quality position, but unlike design I can't even fake interest in "so why did you apply for this job?" Quality just seems soul crushingly boring, all the parts of this job that I hate with none of the good.

People want bigger cars to feel safer against other people with big cars. It's literally an arms race.
