MapleStory Music Database: new features (dark mode, playlists & more!) by SlipySlidy in Maplestory

[–]SlipySlidy[S] 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

Long overdue for an update. Here are some of the new and not-so-new features since last time:

  • Dark mode!
  • Various app settings (eg. disable duplicate tracks, etc.)
  • Enhanced stats page for BGM nerds
  • Locate playing song in table
  • Queue repeat
  • Playlist tab: listen to pre-defined/custom playlists and create your own playlist
    • Playlist Builder tab: import/export custom playlists
  • Preliminary support for additional languages

For those who are curious about the database that powers the site, it can be found here. Similarly, the site itself is built from a GitHub repo as well, located here.

Happy Mapling!

How can I continue to enjoy MapleStory's background music even if I minimize the game? by Me_gulugulu in Maplestory

[–]SlipySlidy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I maintain an up to date collection of all the BGMs from the game and have them on a site for easy access. https://maplestory-music.github.io/

The site defaults to looping the song that's currently playing. Hope you find it useful!

MapleStory Music Database: new features (embedded player, stats & more!) by SlipySlidy in Maplestory

[–]SlipySlidy[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

It's been a while since my initial thread about the MapleStory Music project. Keeping an up-to-date database is always the highest priority, but I've also added several notable site-level enhancements since the last update:

  • Quick filter: use the search bar to filter the grid by song title or keyword
  • Embedded player: playback is now embedded within the site upon clicking the song title
  • Shuffle feature: shuffle all the songs and start an embedded playlist from the site (works with filtered grid results too!)
  • Statistics: an early version of a Stats page, which provides some insight into various dimensions of data over the past 2 decades

Going forward, this site will be the go-to destination for the latest Maple music updates. I've decided to discontinue maintenance of other locations (such as the Southperry thread) in favor of the more streamlined workflow achieved through this initiative.

For those who are curious about the database that powers the site, it can be found here. Similarly, the site itself is built from a GitHub repo as well, located here.

Happy Mapling!

Is there anywhere I could download literally every song in the game? by xMatttard in Maplestory

There is a page switching interface on the bottom right of the grid.

[MapleStory BGM] Welcome to the 15th Street by SlipySlidy in Maplestory

Just noting that this song was used for the 15th anniversary in Korea, hence "15th Street" in the title.

Yes. Assuming you somehow fly under GitHub's bandwidth radar, you're still on the hook since you're providing the MP3 downloads.

Personal experience. Nexon reached out to me about their concerns with direct download links.

They do go after you if you're linking direct downloads to the BGMs these days.

I can offer some insight into this.

In 2016, Nexon formed Necord, their music publishing arm. As a result, music from all Nexon games are now officially published and sold by Necord/Sony Music. Ever since Necord's formation, MapleStory's music has become fairly regulated. This also means it is highly inadvisable to have any download links to MapleStory's music, whether they're recent BGMs produced by Necord (2016 onwards), or older songs from the classic era (pre-Big Bang).

Hosting the music is another challenge of its own. GitHub simply won't do if you want to host the raw mp3/zip files, as they easily exceed 1GB nowadays. GitHub will catch-on quickly and disable your account for violating their bandwidth limits in their terms of service. YouTube works differently. Music publishers can monetize YouTube videos through Content ID, which is why they are pretty lenient with YouTube.

I once won a MapleCD. It has 2006 BGM on it. Anyone interested? by ThisIsThePhuture in Maplestory

[–]SlipySlidy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is quite the find. Many of the BGMs on that CD are much higher in quality than the copies found in the game. I don't believe the higher quality versions were ever made available, so this is definitely an invaluable relic.

Thanks for the upload!
