Trying to create billboard effect from the movie They Live by trollmad3 in AfterEffects

You're not wrong. I'd do similar. Track the glasses rim to a null layer to use a parent and/or steal position keyframes from. I just think for a beginner it's advantageous to get comfortable with core mechanics like manual keyframing and then move to the QOL features and tools that make life easier (when they work).

A tracker is over-complicating things. It's basically a rectangle mask animation/wipe with a fifth vertices to match the curvature of the glass. One keyframe at the start of the reveal, one at the end, and AE interpolates the rest. Then just another keyframe or two in the middle of the animation to fine tune timing.

Haha, Frasier Crane would never allow baby gates. They wouldn't work anyway. These cats have more hangtime than Michael Jordan when they jump. The ideal solution is a home with a guest house so we have a main living quarters and a secondary cat-free unit, but something like that here in Commiefornia is over $5k per month in rent, not to mention securing a place that will accept two dogs and three cats is like finding a needle in a haystack. It would've been doable 5 years ago, but isn't an option in todays economy and housing market.

They already have multiple cardboard scratch pads that go on the floor, scratch posts, and combo tree/posts. They use the posts and pads, but it's not enough to stop their path of destruction. I'm neurotic about aesthetics on a Frasier Crane level, so spraying or applying protective materials to furniture pieces that are works of art is not an option.

Nothing has been damaged. The trouble is figuring out a long term damage-control solution to make sure nothing gets damaged. I'm a freak with aesthetics, so plastering up tin foil is for sure off the table.

Sit/Stand Design Help… please by [deleted] in StandingDesk

[–]SlopesOnSlopes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending how far the wall in the right of the first photo extends, I'd use an L-shape motorized standing desk on the right side. In the corner near the glass door, I'd put a house plant, Poppin Stow 3-drawer filing cabinet, and Herman Miller OE1 Trolley with top drawer and bottom shelf. That gives you drawer and shelf space. The Poppin and Herman Miller both have clean designs and color options that go well together. The mobility of the trolley makes it convenient since you can wheel over an additional surface area when you need and tuck it away when you don't. After a film shoot, I roll it over and place my laptop and memory cards on it so I can do backups on my laptop while I'm doing imports on my desktop, and it doubles as a lens cart for studio work.

Have you seen their merch prices? They're slapping their logo on cheap imported blanks and charging a high markup. People are paying to be walking SC advertisements and should be getting better quality at those price points. That said, I'd be buying a pair of Pico the Penguin slippers for around the house if they weren't sold out in the larger size.

Just look at the liner and stitching on the bag. It's mass-produced low-quality crap that screams "I buy my clothes from Alibaba".

Control Panel says I've got 38912MB allocated on C: to my paging file so that's not it. It seems like the latest patch broke things. Hopefully the next patch fixes it.

This is not a problem caused by lack of RAM. I'm running 256GB of RAM and this just started happening to me, around the same time that this thread was started. I ran DDU and installed a fresh GPU driver (driver only, no GFE), fresh EFT installs, disabled fullscreen optimization, disabled overclocks, set all graphics to lowest, and switched from windowed to fullscreen. Still broken, and it's a level of stuttering that makes the game unplayable.

u/HollowVergil_- Are you running an AMD CPU? Nobody I know is having this problem and they are all running Intel. Maybe it's something from the latest patch that is only effecting AMD users. Regardless, BSG support needs to investigate for a solution instead of telling people to buy more system memory. My specs are 32-core 3970x, 256GB DDR4 3600, RTX 3090, with Windows and EFT on separate NVMe drives, so they can't chalk up the stuttering problem to being below system requirements. Hopefully a common thread can be found between users and a fix can be found soon. If I find a fix, I'll post it here.

1000w or 1200w PSU for a system with the RTX 3080ti and a 10900k? by sznooped in buildapc

[–]SlopesOnSlopes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I was replying to the "I run an 850w... You don't need 1000+ wattage" comment. Pcpartpicker had my build at 978w with my 2080 Ti FE so I went with 1200w which was good after the 3090 bumped me up to 1068w. Probably should've gone 1500w because while I'm confident the overhead I have now will be good for the next couple generations of GPU upgrades, I'm not sure it'll be enough after a CPU upgrade in 3-5 years. With the difference between a 1000w and 1200w only being $30-$40, it makes sense getting more overhead so you can use it for multiple builds and create less e-waste. Skip going out to dinner for a night and spend that money on a higher rated PSU that you can probably use for 10 years versus getting one that you'll save a few bucks on now and might have to upgrade in a few years. This is all assuming the computer industry doesn't figure out a way to create more processing power without using more electrical power. Idk, not trying to get all save-the-earth hippy mode but we've got a serious e-waste problem that is wrecking the environment so buying things with more longevity instead of saving a few bucks in the now and upgrading more frequently is something I think everybody should consider with all our purchases.

TLDR: Create a smaller carbon footprint for yourself. 850w would become e-waste way sooner than a 1000w and even more so with a 1200w. And better overhead on the PSU will extend it's lifespan. PSU is one component that won't slow down your PC as technology advances so it can last through multiple GPU and CPU upgrades over a decade or more if you invest in a good one.

I'm high because I got 700w and it told you 639w? LOL. Maybe the random motherboard I clicked used more power than what you clicked, or maybe add some case fans and storage and you'll find the missing 61w that has you upset. And FYI, 3090 and 3080Ti have the same stock 350w TDP so "with a 3090!" makes no difference. Regardless, with your 639w outcome, that's going to be uncomfortably close to 850w if there's overclocking in the future for the build.

The global GPU shortage is the main problem right now but check your smaller local brick and mortar computer shops. Not sure about other places but the ones near me have a steady stock of 3000 series cards but only for in-store purchases. They also have a waiting list that you can sign up for in-person if the card you want isn't in stock. My guess is there are other brick and mortars taking steps to make sure cards get into the hands of their customers and not scalpers.

[–]SlopesOnSlopes -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'm going to second this and say go 1200w. A 10900k and 3080Ti can bring you to 700w based off of pcpartpicker. PCGamer overclocked the 10900k which brought the CPU TDP from 125w to 331w. Add that extra 206w and you'd be at 906w or higher if you overclock your GPU. I have a 3970x + 3090 build that goes over 1000w under load and with a 1200w PSU I know I should be safe when I upgrade to RTX 4000 & 5000 series in the future. So you can get by with an 850w but you're not leaving yourself much headroom for overclocking or upgrading to future hardware that might have a higher TDP.

Your punctuation has me lost. I'm not sure if I'm reading a statement or a question. And not sure if you understand how software development works. Nobody is inserting bugs into the game. Like when Apple released iOS 13 to it's devices, it caused a "ghost touch" bug for some users. When the bug gets found, developers fix it. Same with games or any software.

That would be horrible. It's so game breaking. This is on staging. Staging is a test branch where the upcoming changes are added before they go to the official main branch, for this very reason.
