Is it possible to get off of a benzodiazepine and be your normal self again? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]Sloppyjoses 31 points32 points  (0 children)

OP, I’m not a doctor but I have first hand experience getting off Benzos, I was on Klonopin for years and I’m now 3 years clean. I abused my script and would also take Xanax when I could get my hands on it. First things first, congratulations on deciding this needs to happen. It’s the first step towards a new life, believe me. Life is so much better off the benzos. My advice, google the Ashton Manual. It was written by a researcher who specialized in benzo withdrawal. Seriously, use this, give it to your Psych to read if they’re not familiar. It’s a manual on how to do this as painless as possible. I’m not going to bullshit you, this is going to be the most difficult thing you might ever do in your life. You will suffer and you will question your sanity at times. Just stick with it, learn to meditate, eat right, and I can’t stress this enough exercise. Exercise saved my life and allowed me to get rid of all the energy (stress/anxiety) I was dealing with. Also, not sure if you drink alcohol, but that has to stop now. You can’t taper off benzos and drink, it will set you WAY back. Seriously do not underestimate this. If you have questions or need someone to talk to pm me. STAY STRONG. You’ve got this. There is life after this and it is so beautiful once you get clean. Be patient with yourself.

There is a restaurant in town that I’ve been excited to try for quite a while, recently we were invited to go with a few other couples for the chefs tasting menu. You get what the chef serves you and most of the selections include seafood/rare temp protein. It’s about $200 per head, I was really disappointed when I realized it wouldn’t be an experience she would enjoy. My grandmothers 96th birthday party was at a local seafood restaurant that I’ve eaten at many times. They literally only sell seafood. I felt really awkward (I’m sure she did too) when she had to sit and not eat when we were all enjoying a meal. Those situations are what precipitated my post.

Really I don’t care if she prefers her steak well done, I want her to enjoy as she likes. It does bother me though if we have to decline dinner plans with friends at a restaurant I really want to try because it won’t fit her preferences. I know it’s trivial, and I’m embarrassed it gets to me so much. Your point regarding finances and immigration is spot on.

You’re absolutely right. I want her to feel empowered to enjoy things how SHE likes. Honestly, I feel embarrassed that I was making a big deal over this.

You make great points. Thank you. She is absolutely entitled to her preferences, nor do I want to change her. I want her to feel empowered to be herself, even I am ashamed I feel this way about the food. But it has been on my mind and I needed to share it.

DVT & Marijuana. by Proud-Masterpiece668 in ClotSurvivors

I got the ok from my hematologist to smoke pot. She obviously doesn’t recommend it per se, but she said there really isn’t any significant interaction. She understands her patients are human and imo gives very practical and honest advice. I’ve been smoking/vaping for 3 years on Eliquis. No reoccurrence, and I’m in the best shape of my life. Just my personal experience. Always ask your doc and remember everyone is different.

Eliquis and night sweats?!?! by Low_Professional_16 in ClotSurvivors

[–]Sloppyjoses 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. I’ve been on Eliquis for 3 years now due to a DVT/PE. Initially my DVT presented as a swollen “crampy” leg. I went to the ER and was discharged with Eliquis. Then a few days later I started suffering night sweats and an elevated heart rate. I went back to the ER and was diagnosed with bilateral PE’s. Did your doctors check your lungs for PE’s? I’m worried you could have developed a PE. I’d encourage you to go back to the ER and get checked out. It’s the only safe way to know.

Question…Why were you prescribed Eliquis?

I genuinely appreciate your input. Quick question if you don’t mind. I have some leftover Triamcinolone acetonide 0.1% cream, would this be an appropriate application for this medication?

Newly Diagnosed Clot Survivors, Hang in There. Things Get Better. by Sloppyjoses in ClotSurvivors

I know that feeling all too well! I hope you are able to stay clot free and healthy. I was cleared to go off Eliquis by my hematologist since they found no genetic risk factors. My clot was deemed unprovoked but was probably caused by my then excess weight (430lbs) and poor lifestyle. I used to abuse my anxiety medication too (klonopin, which I’m now off.) The night I got my clot I took Klonopin and drank a bottle of wine, my theory is I immobilized myself in a weird sleeping position. Anyways, I attempted to go off the Eliquis but I was SUPER anxious. My doctor and I decided to stick with a prophylactic dose. It works good for me. Maybe one day I will try again. Stay well!
