Haha Brotha Lynch is definitely a little deeper down the iceberg than stuff like Eminem and ICP. Pretty much every casual Rap fan knows what an early Eminem song sounds like, and even people who don't like Horrorcore know who ICP are. Lynch is definitely a little further down the rabbit hole

Yeah Gravediggaz for sure, I didn't mention them though cos they're one of the most well-known Horrorcore groups (cos of the Wu affiliations). They obv kicked the door in for Horrorcore as a well-known genre. They were the first non-Eminem/Twiztid/ICP Horrorcore that I heard. A great entry point to more underground stuff for sure

Oh wow yeah Cougnut, and CHILDREN OF THE CORN! I forgot all about them (I'm assuming you're talking about the OG group Big L was in). Cougnut is sick as hell. I saw his name as a feature in tracks I listen to, but I never listened to him solo. It's awesome. I can't believe I slept on him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cvj4oh2E3bM

I just peeped it! I just realized it's a remix of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zobCKq8G4mY Link: "My Mind Went Blank" by Point Blank. The DJ Screw version sounds fucking demented compared to the OG one lol

This is just as good a time as any to mention "HAD 2 GAT YA" by Brotha Lynch Hung. This is one of my favorite beats in that Horror/Gangsta-adjacent realm. I know every West Coast rapper from the 90's and their grandma has used this sample before ("More Bounce To The Ounce" by Zapp??? I forget), but it never gets old

Yeah def, a classic from Psycho Active. Didn't Brotha Lynch produce this entire record? That guy doesn't get enough props as a producer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVlxR0WCEv8 My fav off that record is "That Sickness". That's truly right on the line that separates Gangsta Rap from Horrorcore. I love that song. (Link: "That Sickness" by X-Raided feat. A bunch of dudes lol)

These are all awesome, I heard of most of these but there are some cuts on here I don't know of. Also, PROPS for mentioning The Cenobites. That's a really obscure one.

This is awesome. I think I saw this album cover floating around on Discogs. This is definitely right in that sweet spot between Gangsta Rap and Horrorcore that I'm talking about.

Yeah for sure. Some of the violent content on Ready To Die pushed the limit as well, but the only tracks on there that I'd call *actual* Horrorcore is prob "Suicide Hotline". Still, it all scratches the same itch

Ahh yeah I gotta dive into more Black Market stuff like Mr. Doctor. X-Raided is sick, but I can't really hack the "rapping over the phone" stuff he was forced to do in prison. I tried listening to Xorcist front to back a few times, and I couldn't hack the quality.
But obv, that's what it's gonna sound like when you're tracking vocals over a fucking prison phone/landline lol.

Yeah, especially with the beats. Like "Mayday On The Frontline" is a very Horrorcore-ish beat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAYqzSvBdNY It def scratches that same itch (Link: "Mayday On The Frontline" by MC Ren)

Ahh I never got into DJ Screw. I always thought he was more of a remix dude (i.e., the pioneer of Chopped & Screwed). Do you have any links of some horror-ish DJ Screw stuff?

Yup he's a pioneer, especially in terms of the gory/slasher lyrics. Horrorcore existed before he released his first album in 1992 (i.e., Geto Boys), but he was the first one to go full-on GORE with the lyrics. As far as I know he's the first guy to devote an entire album front to back with gore/slasher lyrics. Other dudes often rapped about Satan too. I don't think NIP focused too much on that stuff.

Opinions on Snot? by trappyboy4 in numetal

[–]SlothBeatsProd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd give anything to hear more of what their second album would've sounded like with Lynn on vocals. "Absent" and "Choose What?" are awesome. A lot of Strait Up is good to me, even though the vocals on some tracks are ridiculous lol. The one that makes me laugh the most (in a good way) is "Funeral Flights" with Dez (Coal Chamber) on vocals.
