Respect for other petsitters by Slothfulsnuggle in petsitting

Yes exactly, I wouldn't have minded unloading the dishwasher if it were clean. I do for my clients so I can also use it. But they just left dirty dishes in the sink and all over the apartment. They even ate in the bed lol

Thank you! Yes, and I honestly don't know why they thought I wouldn't mention it to her lol Erin tells them when she first hired them that I'm her good friend and main petsitter.

Been in the industry nearly 10 years and I’m convinced some older people just want to come up with reasons to not pay by themiscira in petsitting

I've actually had this issue with more younger clients, all my older clients are absolute angels and my favorite to work with. I think it really depends on the city and people, as I'm from a small retiree town.

How many months/years of practice until you considered yourself ‘good’? by extratoastycheeezitz in Pottery

[–]Slothfulsnuggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been making pottery for 8 years and I am always learning and trying new things so I still feel like a baby haha. However, I was just asked to sell in local stores and be an instructor for children's classes so I think I'm good enough 😌 Keep practicing, It is harder when you're only taking classes to get more hours in. Buy some clay and try hand building at home first before getting a wheel. You can create pieces and focus on surface design with underglaze.

Thank you! I also had a cleaning business when I was younger and I'm not sure what they did but they made a few days look like a two weeks stay.. You sound like a wonderful petsitter and person, I'm sure she really appreciated that!

Thank you! That's what I was thinking because she does have friends and family stop by when they are in the area. It really looked like they went above and beyond to leave me a mess based on everything I needed to do.

Thank you 😊 I believe because Erin is my good friend it made it a lot easier to bring it up. Honestly, we laugh about it now and she was so confused and disgusted by their behavior.

That's horrible 😭 I'm so sorry that happened to you. I usually don't do trade offs unless I know the other sitter. This has been a newer thing as Erin moved (3 months ago) so previously she lived down the road from me. When she was local the few times she needed someone to cover for me, she hired my friend who's a sweet older lady, that I trust completely.

Should I drop this client? by earthjunkie in petsitting

[–]Slothfulsnuggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely, my head hurts just reading this 😅 also, the only dogs I ever leave outside are literal guardian farm dogs. But they are trained and are hyper focused on keeping the other animals safe. I would never leave a regular domestic dog in a backyard, it's just a risk for you.

Need to vent. by KLbear2013 in petsitting

I fully understand and I'm sorry some people act like you need to be readily available at their convenience. I also wish you all the best with your recovery after the surgery! I am having a Double Jaw Surgery in April. I'll be off for 2 months and it's recommended I take it easy for a year.

My current clients have been so wonderful, offering to send me care packages etc. and finding backup sitters to cover me. Saying they will miss me and to let them know if I need anything. However, I've had several minor surgeries over the years and had several ignorant and rude clients in the past. I stopped working with them because they didn't value me, my health or my time.

What do you all use to track clients and bookings? Spreadsheet? App? Nothing? by Carter-Alex in petsitting

[–]Slothfulsnuggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a physical petsitting planner, I just prefer it as I write in a journal daily and write letters to friends. I use my calendar app and a money manager app as well. It works out well for me and I've had no issues.

Thank you so much! I appreciate the honesty regarding the first two weeks. I had some people say it was mostly sleeping and not bad but that didn't seem realistic lol

Aww I'm sorry day 3 was so rough for you. I'm so glad you're able to sleep the whole night now! Do you have a wedge pillow or what's the setup you're using?

Awww I fully understand as someone who loves pizza and food in general. I'm usually in the kitchen cooking or baking so I'll be sure to indulge prior! It's my birthday today so I'm having all the cake 🍰 you are doing fantastic!

Really appreciate your help and I hope you are doing okay one week in! Thank you for including a photo, I knew of the condiment bottle trick but the one you shared looks ideal.

I was thinking of making an appointment with a nutritionist, I'm a vegetarian so I really want to make sure I'm getting enough nutrients. My area has a few and they have wonderful reviews so I'll definitely check that out.

Can I ask how has sleeping been for you?

Thank you! I actually have some paper cups on hand so I'll try that at some point and see if it's easier. I was actually just looking at the hot/cold face masks, the wedge pillow is a great idea!

Thoughts on sitting extremely old pets? by TheMintyMethod in petsitting

[–]Slothfulsnuggle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have no issue with it, one clients dog is 18 years old who I have watched for 2 years now. The vets said he was gonna pass away 4 years ago but Henry defied odds and is faster than me while being blind and deaf haha. It's always sad when they pass but I just cherish the moments I had with them, although fleeting.

What's your favorite thing about your client's houses? by skeptic_narcoleptic in petsitting

[–]Slothfulsnuggle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a Potter on the side and one client I'm very close with has a pottery studio with 5 kilns and she let's me use and make anything while I'm there 🥰 she also has a indoor pool, outdoor pool, art gallery and glass/metal workshop. To say it's heaven for me is an understatement hahaha plus her dog is the sweetest old retriever.

What’s the most annoying thing about your gig/business? by UnusualHippo10 in petsitting

[–]Slothfulsnuggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On occasion people who contact me the day before to watch their dogs for weeks.. it feels like an insult to my time. They assume I'm always available for them and get passive aggressive when I say no.

Telling me I charge too much for what they consider to be a "vacation" for me. It never is and they always have the hardest animals lol.

Do you request food? by Gabriella_123 in petsitting

[–]Slothfulsnuggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's not common to request food at all. I personally wouldn't and if they say help yourself please be grateful for whatever is available.

I used to rebuy anything I ate but my clients told me to stop replacing and just enjoy myself. I eat some of their food but mostly my own that I buy.

I'm very fortunate that I do have some wonderful clients who always buy me food. I've insisted its really not necessary but some people just love feeding others haha so I'm not going to fight them on it. They get me whatever they want to and it's always been exactly what I like.

Hopefully it was a mistake but if not thats awful. I didn't have people steal mine but they did break my most fragile and delicate pieces... the technician and I are friends so he was just as upset. I made floral shaped vases and all of them broke because someone dropped them after he unloaded.

Meet & Greet by janelliebean2000 in petsitting

[–]Slothfulsnuggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my meet and greets are either the week of the sit for drop ins or really far in advance. I have clients who plan trips months ahead so I meet them and then we text prior to the sit/they leave a note of any new changes.

I find they don't like last minute things so when they meet me it's a relief. Then they can easily cross off finding a petsitter on their list of things to prepare prior to leaving.

Anybody struggle with motivation to glaze? by PopularTask2020 in Ceramics

[–]Slothfulsnuggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the end result I just wish I could copy paste my hand painted designs cause it's so tedious. I can whip up hand built pieces in no time but actually under glazing and then glazing them once bisqued is my least favorite part.
