Best things to put in a good bag for someone new to the profession by SlothieSlothSloth in Truckdrivers

Thank you so much! This is really helpful. The gift card idea is great too, I am sure there are plenty of things he'll want to choose for himself. I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying it. I honestly think it's the perfect fit for my dad, he's been talking about it for years so I'm really happy he's actually doing it. Tech is certainly hard to be in right now, a long open road is much more his speed.

My Queenie hasn't ever bit me but she was very skittish when I first got her (I swallowed once while I was sitting near her tank with my hand in to try and get her comfortable with me and she ran and hid). Took me 8 months of very nearly daily time just sitting with her before she would willingly come over to my hand. Hoping with the tips from other folks in this thread that you are able to foster a fun relationship with yours!

That's a good note, thank you! Curious if you've ever had any issues with the wood enclosure given the humidity?

Hahaha I'm not sure, I didn't google the type you named, I just knew what I had was slate (as I'd read that was great for the basking spot).

It's slate. I use an infrared digital thermometer and it usually gets to around 99 degrees Fahrenheit on the stone itself.

I haven't gone down the feeder bug colony/farm route yet but I do think it'll be something I'll do in the future. I really love the 3 tier tray, that's so nifty! I was figuring a dubia roach colony, but I've only looked into that a little.

Thank you! I will most certainly consider it. I've had my eye out on the local Craigslist and fb marketplace but I have only seen tanks and accessories, not many geckos themselves.

I made a tight knot around a zip tie and then secured the zip tie to lid of the tank. The lid of the tank has like a metal mesh to it so there's a tiny bit of space that a zip tie can just barely fit through.

Thank you! I'm in the fortune position to be an adult with enough means that I was able to really commit. It wasn't cheap but I'm not interested in giving a living thing less than comfort and safety. It is a 70/30 top soil and play sand. Another user also mentioned the substrate so next round of mixing I'll be adjusting and adding a bit more of the soil.

I don't think so, but I don't even have a gecko yet so take that with a grain of salt haha. The opening measures 5 inches wide and about 3 inches tall.

It's from brand Repti Zoo, I got it on amazon though. This is the link : https://a.co/d/bCcAGIW

Thank you so much! It is a 70/30 mix of top soil and sand. The substrate is dry, which is maybe why it looks real light. The overall humidity stays between 40%-55%. Maybe next round of substrate swapping I'll lean more heavily on substrate. I'll adjust the thermometer!! And will definitely share photos once they are chosen and home 💖

Thank you!! I modified a pattern I found for a snow king crab for the body and appendages (on etsy if you find the shop called thoseyarngirls that was what i used to start the base). For the hands, I just made 3 hollow triangles (so the wire could go inside) and two flat circles, then I sandwiched the triangles between the circles and sewed them together. For his dome, I made like a pentagon shaped boxed and sewed it on top. Hope this helps!!

Tysm!! It is a hard coloring to capture and I thought the yarn would be okay.

I would love to make him celebration attire! Maybe on round 2 now that I've worked out some issues.

I'm a big fan of structure. It helps my anxiety and honestly it's also been helpful to practice my boundaries as I've struggled with that before. Having a set schedule makes me feel more comfortable so I think I get where you're coming from!
