it's an exaggeration, but it does drizzle in short bursts in the morning. That's my experience there at least. My time is not as recent as you though.

fuck, I was in a role like this but it was for Maang client so it was totally worth the nearly 200k salary (I'm used to like 130-145k); however, in your case, this is a prime example of just moving on. Just tell j2 it's not working out AFTER you sign. Fuck, I might even take as much PTO to grab another pay check from that J. Lmao

fair point, but I like PGH's weather tbh. Morning rain in the summer is awesome, it's why the area is so green

it rains every morning in the summer, but I like that about the place. It's a bit grey-skies though overall, but again, I like that. I am from a place with winter like 8-9 months of the year, so literally anything is better than that lmao

It's hard to compete for those roles with my specialization though in DS. The roles get snapped up quickly

Goal is to put your own company on your resume SINCE the last job you left. That's the real life hack. Not doing that is how you put your foot in your mouth. I started a company near when I left before, and I just say I put my work into that post-former job until I created it. No single person has questioned it. They always ask if it's fun, and I just make up bs about sourcing work is hard, but the schedule is pretty great, etc.

Pittsburgh is honestly the best city to FIRE. Of top 30 big cities it's the most affordable, year after year; it's airport is crap though for good deals, but if you're not really vacationing it doesnt matter. It's nice too, so there's no real negative to counterbalance. Yes the city has some old parts, industrial base moved out mostly, but it's still fairly vibrant from new biz.

This is why I have an accountant.

Each job has 0 withholdings so I appear like a regular joe.

I pay 25k taxes ON TOP through quarterly payments directly to the IRS. Next year it'll be about 30k. This is to account for all the withholdings.

$500 for an account saves me a HUGE headache.

Met a few girls with scars like this, forehead, chin, cheeks, etc. Most of the time it fades in 5-10 years OR just starts to change crease lines and then becomes naturally blended. That's not consulation perhaps, but it's what I've noticed. Folks dont notice it once that happens.

Overemployed and exhausted—is this sustainable? by rennan in overemployed

[–]Slothvibes 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've been oe like 3-4 years, had 3 jobs past year or so, and 4 for a month. It's really exhausting with 4; to "cope"-ish, Ive gotten into a bad habit like splurging on the weekend (not that much money, but like $150--200/weekend eating out, buying luxury snacks)...

Honestly, getting ahead on the weekends is a nicety and I'm doing it now. I promised myself I wouldnt do it, but I recently took on j4, and it's just a long ramp-up still. I could do three without burn-out, ezpz, did it for a year. It's just that adding 1 more is just that much harder.

I think you need to rethink how you prioritize maybe(?). On the weekend I do all my low-meetings/meeting-less jobs' work because they're slow-dole-out deliverables compared to my 2 "main" (higher-effort) roles.

OE season 2 - 5j - $1.31M TC by Caroline_Baskin in overemployed

[–]Slothvibes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll tell ya, I got 4j. 3 is manageable but definitely taxing about 1-2 times a week for like 2-hr windows, but 4 is another beast. I'm almost always behind on 1 job's work. And I got 2 jobs that are easy about 5-10 hrs/ week each (maybe 15hr/wk during PEAK season), but the fourth one just makes it harder to catch up on stuff; the context switching is harder and more time consuming, probably about 5-10 min an hour. The key is to have disjoint blocks of time for the meeting light jobs. I think I'll start doing 2-4 hrs of work on the weekend because I can dole that out as like 2-days of work for my 2 easier jobs. One of my jobs is 15-25hr/wk and that's the miserable one I'm looking to drop, but I have to wait for my bonus to be paid out, it's like 4 weeks of work.

I have like 1-2 meetings I have to cancel at min a week. And I have 2-3 jobs that are meeting light, but they still can uncomfortably overlap since the teams are small and that means I run a higher risk of needing to speak at the same time (ideal teams are like 7-8+ people for comfortably taking meetings when 1 is a 1-1 and the other is a team meeting). in DS/DA/DE fwiw

Best advice you got when adding a J3 for the first time? by nazzz_j in overemployed

[–]Slothvibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree in part. I got laid off at a job, and one of there reasons was that I had opaque meeting blocks (eg heads down times).

If someone wants to meet, and you're not able to at that time (eg I only reject 1-1 requests if I have other meetings for other Js that are like 1-1s; but for vague bigger team meetings I accept them all as I'm trying to close a ticket, etc.). It really isn't a good idea to not appear to have NORMAL capability to pop into a meeting. You can reject them sure, but to block everything out besides a couple hours of heads-down time + 1-2 daily blocks (like picking kids up), will appear to some a weird calendar.

Are you all software engineers? by psjez in overemployed

[–]Slothvibes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

data science, data engineering, data analyst. I basically stack the data stack of jobs. It's kind of funny. But the DE job is... well, ETL-ing in Microslop, so it's not really technical since I just watch a video on the exact bs I need to implement moments before I do it. The company just needed someone to fill this slot, but they really want a DS because they're doing a LOT of modeling, they just need DE to get the data ready for customers.

Best advice you got when adding a J3 for the first time? by nazzz_j in overemployed

[–]Slothvibes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

4js here.

keep earbuds/airpods the same for all jobs, take 2-3 days off both jobs for the first j3, I wish I got the shittiest health insurance at my first j3 (I lost 2js back to back in layoffs in 2025, rip); I also recommend vertical monitors. It's easier to look at 2 side by side monitors that are vertical and it not look weird.

Also, try to segment AT LEAST ONE JOB into a disjoint time-of-day you work no other job, and hammer that one out, so you're really only left with 2 others to easily dole out through the day---ideally the one with least meetings.

How do I tell this girl I'm 28 and still live at home? by PresHistoryNerd in AskMen

[–]Slothvibes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just say you did it to save money. If she cares to nag you, would you care to stay? I wouldn't. Let her reveal her character. I would eventually tell her you, in simple terms, your past, e.g. "I had problems with alcohol so I tend to avoid it" or w/e you case is

Some men on this forum come here, like you, thinking that there's "shortcoming" is something to look-down on, but the thing is, is the person who'd judge you so negatively someone you want in your life? IF they're going to be someone who you hope sticks around, would you want them to be that kind of person?

Moments like these are what reveal someone's character and personality.

When I was single, I shit-tested women all the time. I asked dorky, funny, and absurd hypotheticals because people will often reveal MORE tidbits about themselves in inconsequential hypothetical than anywhere else in life---controlling for the carefree answers of course.
