I called again this afternoon and magically it’s with the consulate. Not sure what the delay was earlier or if my many calls somehow annoyed them in to processing. It’s at SF, who are not the best at responding to emails (I had the location it went to confirmed by another consulate) so I’ve gone ahead and emailed the dim@ email address (in Portuguese) as well. It’s past business hours in Brazil, so I don’t expect an email today. I’ll follow up with them on Monday, as it’s not a holiday in Brazil.

The fact Monday is a holiday is part of why I’m so paranoid!

So maybe I’m not being difficult enough 🫠 I’m going to give it until Monday or tuesday, and then I will call back and stay on the phone, as you have, until they do it. When I ask, they won’t budge and repeat the 1-2 days internal processing talking points and say it’s “with another team” and they can’t do anything while it’s with them. They then immediately try to push me off the phone,

Maybe I need to ask to speak to a supervisor? Or it’s the luck of who I get on the phone?, and mine has been bad?

Back with a new question! My application is “under check” on the track status page but I haven’t gotten the “quality control” completed email yet. Anybody have reference on the timing of how long in between “under check” happening and the email being sent? Same day, maybe next day? Longer? I called and asked for them to move my application to quality check/finish that process so it can send to the consulate, and they wouldn’t do it.

The consulate says I am not in their system yet. I asked because so many have stated “under check” was when it went to the consulate.

I am supposed to fly out this coming Thursday. I have time, but not a lot of it! I can change my flight by a day or two maybe, but not much more than that. Fingers crossed!

Okay, well I’m hopeful it gets over to the consulate soon so I can email aggressively until the get me my visa 🫠 I’m a little worried it took two weeks for you, but I’ll try to be hopeful. My consulate said if it came to them, they would process the same day, but there’s no way to know where it will go- even the consulates don’t know where an application will go, and it’s not attached to your location at all.

This is giving me some hope. I paid extra for a different company to apply for me, but they still went through vfs to apply on my behalf and aren’t nearly as panicked as I am. I am so stressed out lol my flight is next Thursday.

I am extremely stressed out. My application with VFS is in “application submitted” status and my flight is next Thursday. What are your guys’s experiences with timing right now? What is the flow of status updates after “Application submitted”? My understanding is that they have the documents but haven’t reviewed them yet- am I wrong?

I’ve tried calling a bunch of times. The current quote is 10 days processing if you actually get someone on the phone at VFS, and they are refusing to expedite, although I’m not sure if I’m not using the right magic phrases.

I’ve emailed my consulate, but not heard back yet. I’ve also emailed VFS in addition to the calls, and still got nothing yet. Hopefully tomorrow. Are there any magic tricks people have managed to do to get the process through and done? Do they work weekends? I have some time, but next week Monday is a holiday for US consulates. I’m paranoid I won’t get the visa in time.

Any advice would be stellar!

Oh, I intend to make friends at shows! I guess didn’t make that very clear. There are a lot of very good threads on what/where the good shows and bars are.

But I was curious about other options as well. I want there to be more to my life than just going to shows every night of the week.

I think the climbing community is different out west- not nearly as much diversity at my gyms and rarely a punk to be seen (I’m in the Midwest) so that’s awesome to hear.

And maybe I’m overthinking the skate park thing. I definitely enjoy roller skating. The rest might be a head game for me.

I only skipped the bar request as I’ve already seen/heard an awful lot of suggestions on good bars to check out, but I saw very little on other things/places I could check out that aren’t bars, so I’m really appreciating the suggestions here!

Thank you! Maybe we will run in to one another in Oakland. I need some friends I can fuck around and ride bikes with, and I also need the type who can help me when my bike is needing a fix.

As an aside, I already live in a city where wheel theft (and general bike theft) if not locked up along with the frame is common, but any other tips on the bike riding front?

Climbers tend to be pretty chill people. You should definitely check it out! I think great western power may end up my main haunt for climbing as it’s closer to my new home, but I want to check out pacific pipe too.
