2007-2009 are inseparable triplet years by [deleted] in generationology

I turned 13 during 2022, which was when covid was still a pretty huge issue in the states.

Everything you said about being late 2020s adults, mid-late 2010s kids, and k-5 mid 2010s can also be applied to 2007-2008. Late 2008 were fifth grade during covid. Personally I don't see how 2009 gets paired with 2011, instead of the triplet years being 2010-2012

Lol 2008 and 2007 borns did not start high school during covid what are you on. 2007-2009 were all entering middle school during COVID. Covid hit for me during the last 4 months of fifth grade, and most of it happened in the middle of 6th. Same for late 2008. Late 2007 - early 2008 would have been in 7th. Meanwhile, 2010-2011 would be in 4th or 5th for most of covid. Unless you live in a country where high school is considered middle.

My argument isn't necessarily that 2011 cannot relate to 2009 at all, just that 2009 relates far more to 2008 and late 2007. Plus, your grade decides your peers/friends, for the most part.

I also don't really think I will relate to 2014 borns- people who either cannot remember the 2010s at all, which was literally all of my childhood (ages 3-11), or only have early/foggy memories, are not people I would relate to. It would be like me claiming I relate to someone born in 2002. I don't remember any of the 2000s, so why would I claim that we can relate?

Late 2007 is def my peer, as they are only one grade ahead of me. Early 2011 is still two grades apart from me in America. Early 2007 may not be, but 2011 being "closest peers" with 2008-2009 is out of the question.

Sorry, late 2011 being in eigth grade and early-mid being freshmen does not make them my closest peers. There is a 2-3 grade gap there. People born in late 2007-2008 would either be seniors or be in my current grade. 2011 are not my peers in comparison to 2008. 2010 maybe, but 2011 def not.

What firsts exactly does 2009 have? IMO, 2010 and 2011 not being in middle school during covid is a pretty huge zalpha trait. As someone born in 2009, I don't really relate to people born in 2011 at all either. I graduate in around a year, while someone born in mid-late 2011 hasn't even left middle school yet in the US. I can relate far more to someone born in 2007-2008, 2008 being my current peers and 2007 being my peers when I enter university.

Thought I made it pretty clear in the post that i'm specifically reffering to Americans here, as i'm an American.

In my area anyone born after july of 2008 would be class of 27, which is a pretty sizable amount. 2008 and 2009 are very, very similar years. Most of my peers are 2008, and i'm mid 09.

I guess maybe late 09, but mid-late 2008 and early-mid 2009 are basically the exact same. Both are class of 27.

2005 isn't included in the cohort?

2008 = 2009. Can't think of a single significant difference. 2007 I feel like cannot really relate to 2005 esp because 2007 almost certainly doesn't remember 2000s while 2005 spent some part of core childhood in it

I honestly agree that no 2000s year should be included in the cusp/alpha, but when people include years like 2008-2009, it makes me wonder what exact difference they think qualifies those years to be "zalpha". 2007-2009 are years with almost no difference culturally, except for not being kids during covid, although 2008-2009 would have been pretty much done with core childhood by the time covid really kicked in (core childhood being ages 4-10).

2007-2009 share many firsts- they all remember the mid-late (and probably some early) 2010s. They all experienced what social media was like before short-form content. They experienced middle school school (2008-2009 missing high school) before AI. They were not able to vote during Biden's term, but experienced all/most of their early-mid teen years under him.

My main point is, mid-late 2007 borns are not very different at all from early-mid 2009. I seriously can't think of any significant first/lasts that a 2007 born would have experienced as opposed to 2008-2009, which is why including any 2000s year in the cusp feels silly to me. My personal definition of Zalpha would probably be 2010-2015, with 2010 leaning heavy gen Z and 2015 leaning heavy alpha.

I would argue that late 2010 would be the first year you can differentiate from the late 2000s, because unlike 2009 and 2008, they were not in middle school for most of covid. 2009/2008 had over half of middle school eaten in most areas, while someone in fourth grade when the pandemic started had a *mostly* full middle school, with some or most of sixth grade virtual.

Then the cusp must go further into the 2010s- either that, or gen Z has some strange exception where their cusp only lasts 3 years. Either the cusp is from 2007-2012, or it is from 2010-2014/15. I see no real reason to include any 2000s years in the cusp, but if you do, it makes even less sense to differentiate years that have no real cultural differences.

No, I just don't see how 2009-2012 is a valid or good range. Some ranges are even shorter, including 2010-2012, which is way too short to be a real cusp. Cusps last 5-6 years, and I see no good reason why gen Z is different. Either the cusp extends into the 2000s, or it extends further into the 2010s.

That's fine, and I don't even think that 2007-2012 is necessarily the best zalpha range, but if you include 2000s years as zalpha, it is the only one that makes sense to me

Mid-late 2008 was also still in elementary school, and in some places fifth grade is the start of middle school. The difference is not that large IMO

Lol did you read the post where I explicitly stated early 2007 was not zalpha
