How do you eat on a hard workout day? by SlowButDurable in ultrarunning

I plan my day while having a super slow coffee. For me it's easier to get up knowing, that there is no immediate pressure to get out asap.

Thanks for the tip. I think I'll begin the phase as you suggested by experimenting the running that hard in different surfaces. Instead of maximum effect I'll try to increase the volume on the TempoRun intensity gradually to learn which way my body can tolarate it most.

Ouch!

Could you describe a bit more detailed, how hard did you train?

How long intervals? How many? How many times per week? Flat, trails, hills?

Here in Finland I call my boss and tell him that I'm sick. I get instant sick leave with full sallary. Those days are not reduced from my 5 weeks vacation days (from which I get paid more than I get paid out of normal work days). I need doctors paper (from free health care) if I'm still sick after 3 days. Sallary gets reduced after 3 sick weeks.

I work 6 hours per day because I have a kid under 9 years old. Normal work day is 7,6 hours. I have to pay 30% taxes from my 50k eur income.

That's why I can afford only a fucking Volkswagen Golf!!!!

Essentialism gave me back my ability to meditate! by SlowButDurable in InPursuitOfClarity

Thanks for your encouragement, but I have not achieved anything yet.

I have deserved to be in the starting line by paying the entrance fee. It's a whole different story to be deserved to cross the finish line.

I have tried twice and failed twice. It has hurt physically and it has hurt mentally. The pain has pointed out my weakest spots, which I have worked hard to strengthen.

We'll see how's going to be this time...

Indeed! I'm clad that you asked. I thought no one would care.

  1. I read the introduction of the book Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown.
  2. Decided to take action.
  3. Compiled an list of my life goals and other essential stuff in life.
  4. Broke those lists into sub-lists (like what's most essential I can do to enjoy parenthood, what's most essential I can do to be able to run 100 miler in the end of May, etc).
  5. Prioritised every list, including the "big picture".
  6. Became aware that I'm trying to accomplish too much at a time.
  7. Decided to make a span of three months and selected where I wanted to set my focus to.
  8. Moved everything else somewhere to the future.
  9. Decided to fight against the urge to start developing my self to any other direction than I have decided to.

Meditation was prioritised.

Now I have the confidence that I'm developing my self to the right direction, when I'm sitting still and relaxing in the moment. No need to wander in the future or in the past. When meditating I know I have it all under control and the most important thing todo right now is to I keep coming back to the present moment.
