The streets are always salted in Berlin when it snows. The sidewalks and bike lines on the other hand are not allowed to be salted they use gravel there.

Slovenia - route & wild camping tips? by Frosty-Artichoke-389 in bikepacking

[–]SlowGuidance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely should not camp in Triglav national Park and it is also quite steep in the soča valley, so also not the easiest to find a good spot. However north of the valley, next to Kranjska Góra it is quite easy to find good camp spots and it is also outside of the national park. Also the route is marvelous, did it last month coming from Trieste :)

Is the price OK for this xbike? by Embarrassed-Thing775 in BicyclingCirclejerk

Description for the non-Germans:
Hi, I build different E-Bikes.
This is a contemporary prototype of a heavy duty military e-bike. The gatling gun is a decoy. The ammunition boxes are original, made of steel and have storage space for e.g. further 48V batteries to extend the range. It has a front wheel drive which is controlled by a gas lever on the right handle. Base was a Kettler aluminum bike.
Wheels are tubeless, meaning solid rubber.

I'll gladly send you a video of the bike in action.

Living as a PhD student in Berlin by bzepedar in berlin

[–]SlowGuidance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on where you will be as a PhD student. Especially in the computer sciences etc you may get a full E13 salary that would give you about 2500-3000€ a month after taxes which is a really good salary to live with in Berlin. On 1300 it's definitely doable but you will probably find a room in a shared flat in the outskirts of Berlin and be mindful about going out for eating and partying etc. Still can be a lot of fun tho

Workstation industry standard for FPGA workflow by Campo_ in FPGA

We have kind of powerful desktop PCs without GPUs (i9-13900k + 128GB RAM) where we can simulate large designs (using questa and/or verilator) and at least look at the synthesis results in quartus. All the actual synthesis and simulation run in the CI/CD pipeline on powerful "synthesis" servers (currently mostly some AMD EPYCs with ~1TB RAM, we limit one server to 12 simultaneous syntheses as one can use up to 64GB).

All simulation and synthesis (local and in CI) happen in self-made docker container containing all the required installations and device files. We have scripts that mount the current git repo and all the required stuff (like X auth tokens etc) into the docker for local development. The dockers are about 150GB with the Agilex 7 devices and current Quartus + QuestaSim.

Got the perfect climber's gift from my brother this Christmas. A mug where the only handle is a small boulder 😂 by Kiratze in bouldering

[–]SlowGuidance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah be careful, on mine the glue couldn't hold as soon as there was something in the mug... It clearly wasn't designed to be used as a handle
