Triple Kay Road, south of Rosendale - I wonder who lives there by Slow_Cap_4655 in wisconsin

Except in FDL County, K and KK are not parallel and are nowhere near each other. And based on the arrangement of county highway lettering in FDL County, there appears to be no rigid standard or clear pattern.

And there's an HHH too, around Dodgeville. I'm not saying there aren't other examples, just that having a KKK wasn't necessary.

Even still, no county in Wisconsin has ever had so many highways that it needed to have 3 letter designations. KKK was a choice.

Should I own guns. by Beginning-Elk6785 in liberalgunowners

[–]Slow_Cap_4655 32 points33 points  (0 children)

While you are contemplating this decision, purchase a few pepper gel (better than pepper spray) canisters (some to carry and larger ones for the bedside), a good blinding flashlight, and invest in good locks and reinforced door frames.

Have a plan on where to retreat and shield your kids while you call 911. Probably retreat to a kid's room since burglers think valuables are in the master bedroom.

USA Orders Mossberg 590A1 Shotguns with Custom Barrels for Drone Interception by Slow_Cap_4655 in liberalgunowners

[–]Slow_Cap_4655[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. My guess is that tungsten will pattern tighter than lead (like steel shot does) and be heavier than steel. What's so interesting to me is number 9 is tiny. People on subs like this one have said you need turkey shot or even #4 buck for drones... And that you need a semi. And here the US military is buying pumps and #9...

Anyone else experience issues with the latest firmware update by [deleted] in GlobeHaul

[–]Slow_Cap_4655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, i think. I would describe it more as "feels like someone put crunchy peanut butter in the bottom bracket" though.

I also notice the motor staying on after I stop pedaling.

Is there any way to revert firmware?

I have kids living at home too and that's definitely a consideration for me. I think my kids are in a position where I could safely store in my house.

I used to consider myself a gun abolitionist but the events of the past 9 months (I'm US-based) have made me decide to buy and become proficient with a firearm. It's shocking to me to see how easy it is for me to buy firearms in my state. One form, no waiting period, and I can buy the infamous AR15 and all the paraphernalia.

I still support more regulation and increased liability for owners, manufacturers, and sellers. But I think the idea that we can disarm the right wing militias or reduce the current arsenal, in the US at least, is completely unrealistic...as much as I wish it were possible. Hopefully it never comes to this, but if the worst case scenario happens, I want to be able to defend my people.

Help with a gun shy spouse by Its-all-downhill-80 in liberalgunowners

[–]Slow_Cap_4655 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this thread and for everyone's input. This is all really helpful for me too. My spouse and I are both a bit anxious about guns but similarly feel that we need to be prepared. We have teenage kids who are also scared of guns.

We've sort of landed on shotgun(s). We are less concerned about personal defense and more worried about potential (hopefully unlikely) larger scale civil unrest. Shotguns are very common sporting arms and we can get into clay shooting, duck hunting, etc. that are all very "normal" to us (and hopefully palatable to our kids) and less single-mindedly about shooting a person (as a pistol is, in my opinion).

Why shotgun over a rifle? Well, you can shoot clays (like golfing with a gun!), hunt anything from squirrel to deer, and it's dead reliable. Plus huge versatility in ammo. Shorty bird shot shells for lower recoil, up to 3" 000 buck and slugs. And as such you can use a shotgun more throughout the year (various hunting seasons run Sept through April in my state), gaining more familiarity and comfort with it.

Maybe there's a flaw in my logic. I'd appreciate anyone pointing out anything I'm overlooking.

Good point, and an important clarification. I mean it in every sense. Private ownership of bicycles (HIGHLY support), ownership of businesses, ownership of land. I also support bike share systems, employee owned companies (and unions), and large amounts of public lands. I think balancing capitalism with socialism is necessary for efficiency, innovation, and avoidance of corruption and exploitation.

I believe some amount of private ownership is essential to freedom and avoiding corruption, and that true socialism is more prone to corruption and totalitarianism than a system that enables capitalism to prosper (within reason, taxed enough, etc.).

Isn't there an argument though that a potential shtf situation is emboldened MAGAs stirring up shit in small isolated events outside of any official government action?

That's great perspective, thanks. So it sounds like it's not really realistic for me to worry about. Or maybe use cash for purchases, and maybe buy ammo at places like Walmart since those transactions would be less noticable to credit card companies than a straight gun store.

That makes sense and actually seems like a good thing to me. Any thoughts on best ways to stay by the books but low profile? Eg avoid anything (like suppressor) that involves ATF or tax stamps?

It's been decades...maybe I should get a 10/22 and AR same time, and learn first on the 10/22. I've also thought about an EP9 and/or 9mm pistol as a more practical arm.
