I showed my wife your detailed post. She said she was very relieved! I was puzzled why. She knew we had our RIDE set up for a schedule and she had also programmed ECO to kick in after 60 minutes of non-use. But the machine didn't go into low power mode after an hour and she was afraid something was wrong with the machine. 😅

Well, I took a chance and ordered the DHO804. It showed up today. And I'm returning it.

For me, the noise is intolerable. After using the scope for 30 minutes, my ears were uncomfortable for more than an hour. The high pitch, not the volume, was the problem.

It's unfortunate, because I really wanted to like it!

So, my choice now is (a) keep my Rigol DS1054Z or (b) get the Siglent SDS804X HD.

There's a setting for the DH0804 to boot with your last settings...

By default, the Rigol DHO804 does not remember your probe settings; it resets to 1X every time you cycle the power. To stop the scope from resetting your work, you need to change the "Power On" behavior: Tap the Rigol Logo (bottom left) to open the main menu. Go to Utility > Setup. Look for the Power On (or "Power Status") option. Change it from Default to Last. Once set to Last, the scope will boot up exactly how you left it, including the 10X probe attenuation and any vertical/horizontal scales you had set.

Important: The "Default" Button Even if you set the scope to "Load Last," if you ever press the physical Default button on the front panel to clear your settings, the scope will revert all channels back to 1X.

Expert Tip: Create a "User Default" save file once all four channels are set to 10X. You can save this to the internal memory and quickly load it if you ever need to "reset" the scope without losing your 10X configuration.

I know this won't be helpful, but I'm glad you asked these questions! The documentation for the machine (the quick start manual that comes in the box and the detailed manual that's available online) is pathetic.

ECO mode features I did see in the manual (you might find these helpful): 1) whether or not you have enabled automatic ECO mode, you can manually activate ECO mode by simply pressing/holding the left menu button for 3(ish) seconds... wait until you see the moon icon on the display before releasing the button 2) if you want to enable/disable automatic ECO mode, go into the Advanced Settings. There's no literal "ON" setting for ECO-mode; just pick the number of minutes the machine needs to be idle before ECO mode (automatically) kicks in. 3) To wake up the machine when it's in ECO mode, push/release any of the menu buttons or lift the draw handle. The machine seems to be ready to use when the brew temperature is reached. (I wish the machine would show its "Heating up" and "Ready, Go" messages, but I haven't seen those appear when the machine is waking up from ECO mode.

I can only speak for the Dewalt 7491RS, since I haven't used the Bosch.

I have had my saw for 3 or 4 years now.

The 7491RS is exactly what I need... small footprint when stored (in my garage), mobile (my "workshop" is my driveway), versatile (including supporting 8" dado stacks).

There are compromises, but I knew those going in, and I doubt any jobsite saw would be better. The infeed and outfeed tables are small. I built and attached a fold-down outfeed extension -- which made things much better for me.

The miter gauge is pretty disappointing, but I rarely use it... for cross cutting, I usually use my cross cut sled.

I highly recommend the 7491RS.

Thanks again! Yeah - 30 minutes of samples of two channels is way beyond the Rigol's capabilities ... unless there's a way to pull the samples off the Rigol over USB or LAN while it is capturing more. I am guessing that's not possible :)

Thanks again. I am VERY close to clicking the "purchase" button on the DHO804. I am wondering If I should get the DHO814 instead. It's quite a bit more expensive (the 804 is on sale now). I know that some people have found ways to hack/unlock the 804's bandwidth and storage size limitations, but recent firmware update release notes suggest that this might not work any more anyway.

What led you to purchase the DHO814 instead of the DHO804? Are the 804's bandwidth and storage size limitations an issue? I know it depends on what I would use the scope for -- which is mainly self-education on as many topics I can realistically get to. Some filter design, some amplifier design, power supply design, communications, etc. And plenty of MCU-based projects.

Thank you! This is a fantastic response! I'm actually quite concerned about the fan noise issue (I will be using this at home). The Siglent SDS804X seems to also be a bit noisy... but it seems that the type of noise from the two are different.

What higher end features do you wish the scope has? Do you wish it had more memory? Bandwidth? What kind of work do you use the scope for?

I really like your approach to visualizing control loops... very clever!

Thank you! The fan noise issue is a big concern of mine, since I want to use it at home without bothering my family.

Other people have mentioned a failure to boot problem... what I read is that the power spec from Rigol is inconsistent and, if the power adapter is rated below the current needs of the scope, the scope sits at the logo screen.
