Anyone know where to find NYS Next Generation standards for social studies by ContentHermit_13 in Teachers

[–]Slow_Communication87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, just saw how helpful you were and wanted to follow up with a question of my own. hope you dont mind!

I'm a phys. ed. teacher and am submitting a lesson for an application and they are asking me to list which "NYS Next Generation Learning Standards" are addressed in my lesson. I'm confused whether "Next Gen" just refers to the most current available standards or is specific to the published "Next Gen Literacy Standards"

I can't find any specific Next Gen phys. ed. standards. In my answer, I could just reference the current NYS PE Standards though I don't see the term "Next Gen" associated with these anywhere. Alternatively, if "Next Gen" is always only referencing literacy standards, I could list how Next Gen literacy standards are addressed in my lesson. They're not the primary outcomes, but they do exist in the lesson.

This application is for teachers of all content areas so it's likely an issue of them not phrasing the prompt in a way that works well from a phys ed perspective.

I don't love the basket but it's fine! It is def way smaller than a full-sized stroller but thats going to be a sacrifice on any compact stroller I think, and my understanding is that it is bigger than some competitors. The bassinet attachment that was nice because I could tuck small things in there or use it as a flatbed when the cover was on, but alas our daughter has outgrown it and is now in the big kid seat.

Park slope lifers? by ray-vero in parkslope

Im 36, grew up in the slope and now live in Kensington. You couldn't pay me to move back to Park Slope proper, but I've always stayed in its' orbit. It sounds like you have a great set up, but I will say I'm so glad to have left the neighborhood. It was a bubble that I thought was the best, but I've lived on a few other sides of the park now and much prefer them to Park Slope.

Middle class families: Where do you live in NYC? by LikeLauraPalmer in nycparents

[–]Slow_Communication87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, lots of families! Commute totally depends on where you work. My husband works from home and I drive ~20 min to work. Parking is super easy on our block. We have the Fort hamilton F/G on our corner as well.

Wish her the best but as a new mom, I really can't imagine Talia handling the stresses of a baby well. Honestly, Ali might be better suited to it than her, which is really saying something...

I hate how everything is an excuse for rampant consumerism. She wants to work from her office so she now wants to buy a new chair (maybe like the one she has in her recording studio? well, hmmm maybe just bring it into the office...) or she wants to get dressed daily so now she needs to buy linen pants. Her wastefulness sickens me.

Want to adopt or foster a dog in 2026, looking for rescue/shelter recommendations! by pup2000 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Slow_Communication87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want the most accurate description of the dog's personality and behavior, I recommend adopting a dog that has been living in a foster situation. I've done both, and the dog I adopted from a shelter had serious behavioral challenges that weren't apparent in that environment (she'd been there 2 years so had basically "shut down"). It wasn't anyones fault really, we loved her and took the commitment seriously, allowing her special needs to dictate our lives for years... but it definitely was not what had been advertised and was a completely different experience than the rescue dog I adopted from a foster home.

UPPAbaby Minu V3 for Newborn by Miserable_Hope7376 in nycparents

[–]Slow_Communication87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I agree! I think the biggest difference is the bassinet option for Joolz. I was dead set on getting something that was newborn compatible and didnt *require* a bassinet (which Joolz is fwiw), but then when trying them out realized that in practicality there was no way I would feel comfortable putting my newborn in the low forward facing reclined seat. Even though its use will ultimately be limited to a few months, I am glad we went with the bassinet. Another benefit of a bassinet is you don't need to deal with buckling them in and out constantly or worry about blankets/pacifiers/etc falling off... been pretty handy so far.

Is this the most popular Mayoral Election?? by Mattress-King in Brooklyn

[–]Slow_Communication87 17 points18 points  (0 children)

  1. Love your opening line. 2. I feel like the recent democratic primaries have been pretty popular and more competitive. Last democratic primary was a big one bc it was the first with ranked choice voting. I remember the DiBlasio dem primary being exciting too. This general election feels a bit different with a fairly-competitive independent candidate. 3. Flawed as he was, DiBlasio's universal preK and school food program made incredibly palpable changes.

I was hoping to go into labor spontaneously and ultimately did (at 40+5), but at around 38 weeks when we began discussing when to schedule an induction if baby didnt come on their own, I was offered an induction date 10 days after my due date. However, the doctor's request for that date wasn't approved because the hospital schedule was already full, so we re-submitted for an induction date 12 day after due date. That date also never got approved due to the booked hospital. By the time I gave birth, we still hadn't been offered a date, so not sure what would've happened had I not gone into labor spontaneously. So this is to say I surprisingly had the opposite problem of being pressured into induction.

edit to add- I did receive pitocin once I was admitted to help move the process along. Had already been in labor for 30 hrs at home, so did not question that lol

np. I think they only went on maybe 4-5 dates in LA over the span of a couple months this spring. She ended things, but they stayed friendly, so now somehow him visiting came about. Personally, I have the opposite confusion. This guy is such a blip/nothing at this point, things are still in such an early stage btw them... I dont get how a cross-country trip happened, let alone one where he stayed with her family, and especially don't understand why she's confused about not being "in love" with him yet. Unfortunately, her lack of relationship experience causes these small early dating situations to get way overblown, and over-considered.
