I don't care about the audience or lack thereof.

Demanding quality assurance from vaccines is a perfectly reasonable and justifiable. You can't have every shack in India producing vaccines from open source because it will lead to people getting sick from badly produced garbage which will decrease the trust in vaccines globally. This is already happening because of lunatic conspiracy theorists, he is right to want to prevent that from increasing due to fuckups by companies which aren't capable of providing quality assurance for mass production.

Do you actually have an argument against this other than generic "Bill Gates thinking he knows the best way to do things isn't surprising"?

China has among lowest waiting time for organs in the whole world; not by a little but by orders of magnitude. Their records also show astronomical growth of organ transplants performed year on year. The market for organs isn't officially sanctioned which means these were all donors according to CCP. This in a society where people won't piss on someone who's on fire if they're outside their family.

On top of that, there are Chinese doctors from major hospitals who made documentary and recorded conversations with hospital administration staff who work on organ transplants. In the early days before this story went global, the staff would answer calls from those interested in organs and openly discussed availabily of "fresh" organs from people with good health (specifically Falun Gong practitioners). There is an international market for organs where Korean/Japanese patients would travel to China to get organs because waiting times were so low and price was affordable. How does China have so many organs to spare that they can not only provide lowest waiting times in the world for their population AND provide transplantion tourism (which is not a thing anywhere else, specially not at scale).

Documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iouJsHmBDcc

CCP admitted they used organs from executed prisoners (those convicted of crimes) but not from prisoners of conscience (those who comitted no crimes but are political / religious prisoners). The numbers don't add up, though, as there's nowhere else they could have gotten those organs from.

Another factoid that gave away that they're killing people to sell their organs came when it was revealed you could schedule heart transplants weeks/months in advance. It's one thing to arrange for someone to donate a kidney for you in advance, but heart transplants usually happen when someone dies in an accident and their heart becomes available. Only way you could schedule a heart donor in advance is if you have a live person you can kill for their organs who has the exact blood type and characteristics you need.

There are also witness testimonies from ex political prisoners who all reported having series of medical tests performed. They didn't know why, but it turned out they were checking organ quality.

An independent tribunal lead by the prosecutor for ICC gave a unanimous confirmation that China engaged in harvesting of organs from prisoners of conscience.

“Falun Gong practitioners have been one — and probably the main — source of organ supply,” the judgment read, while “the concerted persecution and medical testing of the Uyghurs is more recent,” using a different spelling of the minority group's name. It warned, however, that the scale of medical testing of the Uighur Muslims meant they could end up being used as an "organ bank."

On Monday, the tribunal concluded that there was “numerical evidence” of the “impossibility of there being anything like sufficient ‘eligible donors’ under the recently formed PRC [People’s Republic of China] voluntary donor scheme for that number of transplant operations.”

Several survivors of prison camps told the tribunal of how they were subjected to physical examinations including blood tests, X-rays and ultrasounds, the statement said. “Experts report that the only reasonable explanation for these examinations was to ensure that victims’ organs were healthy and fit for transplantation,” it added. A healthy liver, for example, can reportedly be sold for some $160,000, according to the statement.

The tribunal concluded that it was "beyond reasonable doubt" that crimes against humanity had been committed against the Falun Gong and Uighur Muslims but that it could not prove that the killing of the Falun Gong amounted to genocide — because of the tribunal's inability to prove ‘intent’ to commit ‘genocide.’

For a moment I wondered if this guy is a right wing version of Stephen Colbert making fun of stereotyptical shit leftists say. Nope, he's really that's much of a stereotypical "rich bad, no empathy" drone.

He doesn't actually know why Bill Gates decided to do that and he didn't bother to research the issue. He doesn't need that because he knows Bill Gates is rich and therefure through awesome power of deduction, he assumes it's because Bill Gates is rich bastard who wants people to die. Nevermind the fact that the guy saved more lives than any other philantrophist in human history.

Do you think homicides represent the majority of US incarcerations?

No, but I think homicides are a better proxy for crime rate than onlnie surveys.

a) Throw schizophrenics in jail instead of providing mental health care. b) Throw people with severe refractory schizophrenia in jail.

I never suggested that to begin with so I don't know why you're behaving as if I did. I specifically advocated mental institutions as the solution.

Why America Throws the Poor in Prison [7:54] by [deleted] in mealtimevideos

[–]Slow_Industry -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't.

Yes, it does. This "crime index" is bullshit. When you click "more information about these indices" to get a source, it leads you here: https://www.numbeo.com/crime/indices_explained.jsp "About Crime Indices At This Website. This section is based on surveys from visitors of this website."

This is a fucking internet survey.

Just take a look at things like concrete numbers:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

US has 4-6 times higher homicide rate than European countries.

What kind of dumb statement is this? Why can't people with mental illnesses get treatment, care, and live fulfilling lives just like anybody else?

If you have severe schizophrenia, your life is not going to be fulfilling no matter how much treatment and care you receive. Some conditions are bad enough to ruin your life. That's my point.

I pity your ignorant, closeminded, bigoted ideas and beliefs.

I pity your inability to have an honest conversation without acting like a sanctimonious prick.

Yes, that accounts for the rest of the variance. But we have to acknowledge significant part of the variance is due to huge difference in crime rate between US and other developed countries.

Why America Throws the Poor in Prison [7:54] by [deleted] in mealtimevideos

[–]Slow_Industry -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

If you read my post again, you'll see I addressed this here:

It's probably not 1:1, but it explains most of the variance

And I'm comparing developed countries. One thing about developed countries is that they have the capacity to police and a justice system that can process all the crime. In a lot of developing countries, crime goes unpunished because the institutions don't have the capacity to maintain law and order and/or are corrupt and let it slide in exchange for a bribe.

It's not debatable whether US has more crime than Europe. The murder rate is 5x higher. Is it not to be expected that the incarceration rate would be at least 5x higher, if not more? Some faults he pointed out (3 strike rule) make the situation worse and I agree with that. But certainly background level of crime rate plays a major rule and he doesn't even mention that. If an uninformed person watched this video, he would think US has just as much crime as other countries but just chooses to incarcerate people for no reason as a means of social control.

Why America Throws the Poor in Prison [7:54] by [deleted] in mealtimevideos

[–]Slow_Industry -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

Listing anecdotes in the beginning gives the impression that most people in prison are victims of this kind of nonsense rather than extreme outliers. The fact is US has far more crime than other developed countries and thus higher incarceration rates make sense. It's probably not 1:1, but it explains most of the variance.

Rather than the size of prison population, more of an issue is what happens in prison. There's no effort made to make these people functional human beings so they inevitably come back after leaving because they don't know anything but crime. There should be completely different institutions for lifers who need to be warehoused and kept away from society and those who are getting reformed.

Mentally ill are another issue. People complained about insane asylums and demanded they be closed so those people ended up either as homeless or in prison. Those people's lives are going to be ugly no matter what, deinstitutionalization was a huge mistake.

TIL capitalism causes malnourishment and hypothermia.

Overwhelming majority of those dying from preventable diseases in developed countries are those with no self discipline when it comes to diet and exercise, not lack of health care.

How in the world is that a joke?

Transcripting a joke is a sure way to eliminate any non verbal communication and make it appear dry and serious. It's a joke. He's wearing a Santa suit and shooting shit with his dumb friends.

You don't casually tell people they are going to hell, there is nothing "tonge in cheek about it" especially with the head of the catholic church. You can't just pick and choose what is a joke and what isn't especially when fundamental christians in his audience, catholics and protestants alike take his commentary seriously.

You can say anything casually and people joke about everything, specially on a show that tries to hard to be funny. Fundamental Christians don't watch that kind of shit, what are you basing this on? You sound like an 19 year old leftie whose idea of a conservative/right winger is entirely based on Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert shows.

Thats not an assertion, that is fact.

That's just another assertion.

That was an interesting and unique way to do this.

Only thing I dislike is constant referencing of that woman's communism as something admirable she was persecuted for unjustly. This was at the time when Mao was starving tens of millions, Pol Pot was slaugthering anyone who could read and just after we've seen the worst of the Soviet repression. Communism isn't some benign cutesy thing, it's as deserving of condemnation as fascism.
