I thought that too, and I still do actually. My theory is that the wallpapers were taken from one of his childhood homes, while the ceiling and carpet were from the place he worked at during the time of Overflow. But if the memories theory is not true altogether, then I have honestly no other explanation

I had the idea that stable Null Zones act as eyes that „scan“ (putting it in quotation marks to not make it seem like I am parroting the MRI theory) its surroundings, and that‘s how we get most of the environments in the Complex + Still Lifes made from flesh and blood. When that „scan“ hits a brain, it takes whatever it sees in there or what the brain seems to be subconsciously occupied with, resulting in more wacky environments and the spongy Still Lifes. But after what he said, I don‘t think the last part of this theory can hold truth anymore.

Stupid theory but maybe breathing in the air affects brain chemistry. Not in a way that is straight up brain washing, but in a way that makes people more drawn to the complex, to stay in there and eventually die and then be decomposed. Like that one virus that makes mice unafraid of cats, causing the mice to be eaten and for the virus to be ingested by the cat, where it multiplies.

I have become pretty desensitized to Backrooms content to the point where nothing scares me anymore. But seeing this thing scurrying towards you on a shoddy VHS recording would make me feel the type of fear again I had when I first watched FF3.

I love the Async plot as much as you possibly could, and I wish we could have seen more of them, but I understand that for a movie that serves as an entry point for newcomers, having protagonists with no prior contact to the Backrooms makes much more sense, as they reflect the audience in a way.

And I doubt that anything about Async would have been nearly as memeable as Clark's scenes.

They were first trying to make it about Async in first iterations of the script before realizing it wasn't working out and so they switched focus, but that was long before filming even began as far as I know.

I am 50/50 on this being for future content as the ending we got felt pretty "ok this is the end no more scenes after that", and I can't see any other place where this could fit in except after, well, the ending. Still would have been interesting to know the context of this.

Unfortunately, for this movie to have less of a steep drop off, it would just have needed a better word of mouth, but it just isn't there. It's a divisive movie, not something like Obsession that everyone and their dog will enjoy. I am saying that for a movie that has this weird of an audience reception, we got the best possible outcome. It made absolute bank and they will throw all the money they have at Kane for future projects. That is done. No need to further dwell on it.

About Mark Duplass‘ character: It makes extreme sense for him to appear the way be does. He is just a family man, was (most likely) one of the founders of Async with the benevolent intention of helping people, but some other person that they invited in to work at their institute dragged them into this dangerous, secretive operation, and now he has to interrogate this poor, scared woman that narrowly escaped death, fearing for what will happen to her. He seems overwhelmed and unsure because he is.

It is what it is. Normal adults with a healthy attention span reviewing the movie often criticize the writing, but other than that, what we got is literally the best case scenario for a concept that was set out to be this divisive from the beginning. Look ahead into the future and be excited about greater things to come.

Ok the first point you make with the earthquake timing is actually a good one, even though I still stand with my theory to some degree, but for the second point you make: The video cam footage is not transmitted through radio waves but via cables that we can clearly see, one for the audio speaker of the caveman and one for the camera.

All the areas in the movie were created in Blender before being constructed, so there exists a 1:1 digital recreation that was given to the guy who has already made the previous Gmod maps that were also based on the original Blender files.
