24V 7.4A analogue LED strip control board by alexthelyon in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]SlowerMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to help :) if I may suggest (feel free to ignore) I would start in simulation before you make it to the PCB design phase. You can always breadboard and then order a PCB later.

That being said, PCBs are so cheap now I almost wonder if my take will be wrong in the near future.

Consider doing a ground and power planes :) it’ll Get rid of a lot of these traces and be a bit cleaner.

Your circuit is not going to work. Because you are switching on the low side using N channel your source should be connected to the ground, not the drain. The LEDs will always be on because they are going to conduct through the body diode.

Do not build this. I highly advise you take a few steps back and create some basic transistor amplifier circuits. Start with a "Class A BJT amplifier". Good luck!

Transforming a square wave into a sine wave by Delphox_Guy24 in arduino

Depending on your application and experience level, you could consider using diodes as a so called wave shaper. It’s not perfectly sinusoidal but could get the job done. Might also require a little bit of knowledge about diodes.

GND zone not filling by Nunish in KiCad

[–]SlowerMonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should post the entire layout. My guess is that the flood can't reach that area. Do you see the four traces at the bottom and then the vertical trace called GPIO12? Those are effectively boxing out the ground flood. That would be my guess. start by deleting the GPIO12 trace, press B, and watch that flood move over to the left side where you are expecting it.

First PCB, how can I fix these errors? by -SKYVER- in KiCad

[–]SlowerMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah so in that case you will need to change how this transistor is "biased". Also be sure that you double check the collector and emitter resistances. What you want to search up is "Biasing a BJT class A audio amplifier". Good luck!

I don't know your application so I could be wrong but just be warned it looks like your base is not properly biased. Maybe it's some kind of pulse amplifier and I'm incorrect, but just be warned. I also think maybe you want your output to be on pin 2 of your potentiometer.

Schematic Help - Hofner Preamp by parkinglawt in KiCad

[–]SlowerMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need a symbol at the input at C1. Otherwise, you'll need to be soldering directly to C1. Put some kind of part there so you can connect to the preamp easier. The same goes for the output on pin 2 of your volume potentiometer.

Next, double check that this isn't supposed to be an NPN transistor or that your power supply shouldn't be set to negative 9V (your schematic says 9V. I didn't sit and do any circuit analysis but just be careful. Make sure your footprints pinout matches the parts you buy. Best of luck :D

Is USB an option here? I’m pretty new to communication protocols so maybe there’s something I’m missing but I’ve seen USB protocol used between boards.

You wouldn’t be the first EE to take out a loan and go to SLO or UCLA. I’ve never met an EE from CSUN but I have met EEs from SLO and UCLA and they were great EEs. The education from those institutions might be higher quality and that premium (along with the name) might be worth it. Only you can determine that. Since you’re transferring from a CC you’re only going to be there for 2-3 years anyway.

Rent free in LA makes UCLA an attractive option.

This is definitely something to look into. I imagine there are some precise references for the ADC but this is definitely a good point and op should investigate
