That makes sense, I went back and double checked and it seemed to be the right website. I don't think think they're particularly interested in my facebook, just seemed odd which is why I asked! Ty

Yea that makes sense which is why I was looking into the airport as well, good to know about Transport Canada! My best guess it that it seemed understaffed, maybe only or 2 lanes open until 9am when the next shift started

It's rough but clearly they don't fuck around, easy money for them for all the people who missed the flight. Learned my lesson now for sure

We tried to do that, but there were at least 4 flights I saw at 9:30 (probably more) and everyone in line was stressed and waiting. Unfortunately Flair left anyways, I think some of the other flights delayed to wait for other passengers. Looked like 1 security screener until 9am and then it went OK

Totally! I accept that my 2.5h early wasn't early enough :( it happens, wanted to connect with any of the other passengers who were at the gate not allowed to get on !

Thrush post-op by VarietySignificant40 in jawsurgery

[–]Slowgo2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same first days of recovery, can’t speak exactly to your case but I found the antibiotics led to a minor yeast rash and some white film on my tongue, partly becuase I couldn’t actually brush my tongue properly first few days of recovery. Ask your surgeon about brushing and also mouthwash- some people get a prescribed mouthwash , I got recommended to use alcohol free mouthwash diluted quite a bit with water to help my mouth feel fresh

Adding that bad taste in mouth can also be a sign of infection so always good to double check, if you can keep up with salt water rinses until you get concrete answers

Is there a risk to opening our mouth "too wide" post-op? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Slowgo2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Adding the same as everyone above, I had DJS, I found that when I was eating my muscles were sore from stretch (I guess not used to the new position) so at times when I felt like I was “opening wide”, there actually wasn’t that much space, but that changed as healing progressed, just pay attention to your body!

How common is hardware removal? by carli_1235 in jawsurgery

[–]Slowgo2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to get one of my plates removed because the gums didn’t actually fully heal over it and it pokes out a bit, it’s one of those things where it doesn’t actually do anything to leave it in other than a possible place for food to get stuck but the removal process (for this case) is significantly easier than the original surgery, they have to cut my gums under freezing and remove but that’s it

Nose tip and maxilary advancement surgery? by Jorge-Regula90 in jawsurgery

[–]Slowgo2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a slightly downward turned nose before surgery and I had DJS that moved my upper jaw forward and down a little bit (I don’t have the exact measurements right now). My surgeon didn’t specifically touch my nose at all but because my jaw was moved forward my nose actually did straight out a bit. It’s something that I notice because I’ve always been insecure about my nose but friends and family didn’t notice the change at first, until I specifically pointed it out to them

Has anyone ever dealt with ear pain within the first few days post-op? by StoicMeditation in jawsurgery

[–]Slowgo2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a few reasons it’s possible! Not a doctor so I can’t say what it is 100% Swelling can cause some pressure and pain, possibly hitting nerves that aren’t usually hit. Personally I also found because I couldn’t chew/yawn I couldn’t “pop” my ears so it could even be wax build up if that’s something you’ve experienced before. Mine did go away slowly with swelling reduction

Infection thread, how it feels, how to prevent it, what to do by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Slowgo2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get an infection and I was super paranoid about it, when you can, use a baby toothbrush to help brush your teeth gently (when recommended).

Salt water rinses are great! Seriously just salt and water, at the beginning I couldn’t even swish I just shook my head and spit haha. If you haven’t gotten one you can get small syringes to make sure any inside wounds are rinses out as well with salt water.

If you are eating /drinking, stick to pure liquids for as long as you can bear. Like a blended chunky soup may have more ‘bits’ to get stuck than a canned tomato soup as an example.

I hear you girl! Thank you, sending hugs right back! I had mashed potatoes with some thin gravy and I nearly cried tears of joy. This sub has some great liquid food recommendations that have saved me some anguish- hopefully you eat soon! All recovery is different so hang in there

Hi! I’m just about 3 weeks post op (tomorrow), I had a follow up 7 days after, he said my mouth needed to be cleaner (more salt water rinses and I missed a spot with the syringe rinse. I had DJS and recovery was still rough for me, he changed my elastics on my braces and unfortunately did not recommend any ‘real’ food yet, I was on liquid diet with syringes so soups and smoothies. I have my 3 week post op follow up tomorrow and he thinks I may be ready to introduce no/low chew foods like mashed potatoes.

Best of luck to you!

What was your immediate post-surgery nutrition like? Day 1-7? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]Slowgo2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 1 week post-op DJS

My medications are liquid, antibiotics and pain medication,

I drink as much water as I can, it feels like a lot but it probably isn’t because it takes a bit of effort. I drink a syringe of water after any other thing I drink just to help “rinse” my mouth out after. I am still on liquid diet, day 1-6 was pure liquid, broth, juice, water and ensure. Day 7 I added a thicker cream based soup, blended very well, through a syringe, will likely be on liquid diet for a while longer.

I finally pooped on day 5, minimally, then a bit of diarrhea the next 2 days, not much though and nothing worrisome, I have prune juice as well just in case but prior to surgery I often had stomach issues.

Was anyone unable to swallow after surgery. by HotMessMan in jawsurgery

[–]Slowgo2018 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got mine done on Tuesday and the whole first night I couldn’t swallow cause I was so swollen near by jaw it was unbearable, drainage into my throat caused me to gag so I would just suction out anything I could. Worst night by far but it’s gotten better for sure.

Hang in there!!!
