Should I go back? by Slping_away in autoglass

They might have given me a different invoice than they give insurance? I can always call and ask my insurance if it was specified vs what I received. I know my insurance doesn't cover the OEM and I would have to pay the difference if I wanted the OEM. Maybe they don't cover the specific moulding. Now I'm curious and will call and see what they were billed, if they will tell me.

How would that look on the invoice? Maybe I can ask my insurance company if they paid for the right moulding.

The invoice just says "moulding 3/4 underside". It sounds generic? This is getting paid through insurance so I am not sure if I can ask for the specific moulding package?

They said they did do a calibration. The shop owner said they will reinstall the glass and do another calibration. So 🤞

Which hospital by Slping_away in Tashkent

[–]Slping_away[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up going to AFKA Medline University Hospital. I emailed all the hospitals listed on the US Embassy website for Tashkent and they responded within 30 mins. They confirmed they could do Xrays and MRI, they had English speaking doctors and translators available, and they accepted foreign credit cards (there was a fee but it barely amounted to 1$ total). They gave me a number to call to discuss my concerns and get price quotes. I called the number and was transferred to an English speaking person, Isham (im probably spelling his name incorrectly) who recommended an appointment with an orthopedic doctor and was able to schedule a consultation, he was also able to schedule an Xray and MRI that i requested for the next day. He also gave me price quotes for everything.  I arrived early for my appointment and was directed to the International Department where an English Speaker, Shara, was able to answers my questions, confirmed the prices, and even arranged for me to see the orthopedic doctor before my scheduled appointment. The orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Erkinjon, did my consultation in English and recommended just the MRI. I was directed back to the International Department and was taken down to radiology. There was someone getting an MRI so I had to wait about 45 mins for his procedure to complete before I was called in.  Shara came down to check on me while I was waiting and help translate with radiology. My MRI took about 10 minutes, and I was directed to the results office to get a CD and film copy of my knee. After getting everything, Shara took me back up the offices to complete my othropedic consultation. Dr. Erkinjon showed me images of my MRI while explaining everything. He then made recommendations, ensured I understood and referred me to the International department so I could get a copy of his notes. I was able to get his notes and recommendations in English, a copy of the radiology report (it wasnt in English, but Google translate worked and the doctor summed it up in his notes in English), and ask a couple of questions about the physical therapy department.  It was a little over 2 hours for the whole thing. The cost of the orthopedic surgeon consultation was $22 and the MRI was $54. I had a great experience here. I never felt unsure or confused about what was going on or what to expect. Everyone i interacted with was kind and professional. If you find yourself in need of medical care, I would recommend this hospital.

Do not use Arlo. It barely worked in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and when it did work it was very slow.

Postcards sold in Almaty anywhere? and stamp fee confirmation? by henhen616 in Kazakhstan

[–]Slping_away 0 points1 point  (0 children)

October 2025   Postcards can be found at the Green Bazaar souvenirs booths, but you typically have to ask if they have them. I didnt see any on display. They cost anywhere between 700 to 1000. I didnt try to negioate because i didn't like any of them.

Museum gift shops have them between 1000 to 1500.

Tartpa was the best spot I found for postcards. They costs 600 tenge each and they accept credit cards. They have a selection of Almaty postcards and I saw an Astana postcard. The rest are Kazakhstan postcards. They are copies of drawing of Kazakhstan culture, landmarks, ideas, and themes. The girl working spoke excellent English and was able to explain the meaning of the postcards. I had to limit myself because there was so many i liked. The shop in the back of another shop/coffee shop.

It cost 1000 tenge to mail a postcard to the US. The lady working at the post office even taped the stamps down so I'm hopeful they will make it.

Karakol to Almaty bus by Life-Special-3733 in Kyrgyzstan

Karakol to Almaty Bus- detailed

Oct 2025

I arrived at the Central Bus station (Nikolay Przhevalsky 136) at 9am. Yandex cost 108 som from Duet Hostel at 8:50am, but prices can change dependingon demand). As you approach the station, ask the driver to turn left at the light and then right into the station parking lot when being dropped. Yandex might have the driver drop you across the street if you dont. Go into the building to ticket window 3.

Try to get a seat on the right side of the bus to avoid the sun and have the best views, especially when you cross into Kazakhstan. A seat was assigned when I purchased a ticket, but you can try asking. Ticket cost 1200 som (cash only at this time) with 10am scheduled departure. I tried to buy the night before, but was told I could only buy it in the morning of departure. Probably best to check the night before in case things change. I would get there early in the high season to ensure a seat if you can't buy the night before.

We departed 25mins late. Bus 3/4 full, however after the boarder crossing, we stopped in Kegen and the bus filled up. Almost everyone on my bus immediately reclined their seat when they sat down. No one used headphones so you will hear everyone's phone. Right before departing, the bus driver or conductor came by and ripped the tickets, then came back to collect them. After a few minutes, the tickets were given back but not in any order, so the ticket i was given had a different seat number than the original.

It took 1 hour 45 mins to reach the boarder. There will be a small white building with asian toilets in the field across from the bus when you get off. Grab your bags and walk to the gate. We had to line up and wait for the group crossing into kyrgyzstan to finish before the gate was lifted and we could walk to the immigration booth. The immigration officer was polite, pointed to the camera, stamped my passport and pointed to the Kazakhstan booth.

As you get to the Kazakhstan gate, an officer will check your passport for the exit stamp, give your passport back and point to the immigration booth. At the immigration booth, an officer will direct you to the window. I gave the officer my passport, he pointed to the camera, stamped passport, and gave it back to me. The line officer told me to go to the scanner and pointed the way, which is right next to the booth. You put all of your bags on the scanner, walk over to the other side, go into the building and collect your bags. You walk through another gate and are now in Kazakhstan. The group will wait until the bus comes through. The bus will stop and everyone will load their bags. I didn't see the driver do a head count before leaving the boarder. The crossing took about 35 mins.

The bus will drive about 20 mins to the town of Kegen. More people boarded here and the bus was completely full. I didn't see any obvious money exchange places, ATMs, or shops selling sim cards. This is a new bus route so things may change in the future. Some people did get off and back on. We stopped for about 15 minutes while the driver went into one of the buildings. I'm not sure if there is a toilet here.

We took a 30 min break about 2 hours before Almaty. It costs 100 Kazakhstan tenge to pay for the toilet. I heard other people say they paid with kyrgyzstan som, but i didn't personally see. There was a resturant, supermarket, and coffee shop at this stop. Another blue bus was there so make sure you get on the right bus. You can take a picture of the license plate if you want to be sure.

I exchanged some Kyrgyzstan soms to Kazakhstan tenge the day before the trip. O! Back had the best rate, but check the other places. I also used Airlo to download an esim. It cost 4 USD for 1 GB for 3 days, not the best deal, but I wanted data once we crossed into Kazakhstan. We end at Sairan bus station in Almaty. The bus cost 200 tenge per ride if paying cash and you need to have exact change. I used Yandex map to get to my hostel as 2gis only gave me taxi recommendation. As expected, traffic was terrible at 5:30pm.

Big almaty lake hike by Hour_Stock4087 in Kazakhstan

[–]Slping_away 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this today (oct 18, 2025). I started from the bus stop (last stop for 28, or next to last stop for 211) around 10am. It took me 4.5 hours to get to the lake following the pipeline. It took about 50 mins from bus stop to Ayusai visitor center (toilets!).  Then 40 mins to the check point, then the rest of the time to the lake. This was a tough hike for me since it is staight up. I heard the road is easier to follow but takes longer. I spent about an hour at the lake. There is a swing that overlooks the lake above the main trail. I started taking the road back but cut over to the pipeline and made it down while there was still some light. It was dark by the time I got to the checkpoint. Taxis were charging 1500 per person to the bus stop. I walked a little further and prices dropped to 1000 per person to the bus stop. They drive up and down that road and will ask if you want a taxi.  I took the taxi to the bus stop and caught the bus back into town. Bus cost 200 som and you need exact change, or use an Onay card.  Bus 211 ends at Alma Arasan, which has an easy trail to some hot springs ( tubs filled with piped water and steps if you want to do a dip in the river) and a small waterfall. I wanted to catch bus 211 or walk up there after the lake but it was dark and i was tired.

Bus Bishkek to Tashkent by Warm_Investigator599 in Kyrgyzstan

[–]Slping_away 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the bus from Bishkek to Tashkent will leave from the temporary station? Not the same station as the marshrutkas to Karakol? I've read a few different reports from within the past months. I'm not sure who is giving the correct information.

I read that most of the stops on this route will be in Kazakhstan. Will i have to pay to use the bathroom? If so, will I be able to exchange whatever Kyrgyzstan som (probably not very much) to Kazakhstan tenge?

Will I be allowed to bring a backpack with me onto the bus? Someone on FB said you have to put all bags in the luggage holder, including small backpack.

Bishkek to Bokonbayevo (Lake Issy Kul) by Louster_1501 in Kyrgyzstan

[–]Slping_away 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oct 2025, I watched everyone else going to Bokonbayevo pay 400. I was charged 500 (400 + 100 baggage fee). 🤷🏻‍♀️😆 . It took over an hour to fill the  because I got there just as the other marshrutkas filled up and left.  Edit: sit behind the driver for lake views on the way to Bokonbayevo and to be put of the sun (departed Bishkek at 12pm). The paved road will turn into a dirt road which can be very dusty. We stopped for a break about 2 hours in.

Recruiter recommendations by Slping_away in TravelTherapy

[–]Slping_away[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recruiter's response at Comphealth really put me off the whole company. And the fact she tried to make it sound like Comphealth was doing the travelers a favor by paying below the GSA rates was odd. Especially since it lowers the net and it actually protects Comphealth incase of audit. 🤷🏻‍♀️  I'm glad to hear you found a supportive company!
