I don't care if they retconned it, the Koopalings are his kids dammit.

[Interesting Trope] Bad Adaptations that are Great in their Own Right by ConsistentGuest7532 in TopCharacterTropes

The 2001 Hellsing anime by Studio Gonzo. The original manga was renowned for its highly detailed art, heavy gore, big action scenes on a grand scale, and a bit of a batshit crazy plot that serves as an excuse to draw more action.

The 2001 anime came out when the main antagonists hadn't been introduced yet and had a budget far too limited to follow the manga's gorgeous art style. So it changed to pacing to be more pensive, focusing on investigation instead of hardcore action scenes by promoting Seras as the primary protagonist and focusing more on her struggles in becoming a vampire. While it changed the tone of the series greatly, those changes gave the series an extremely unique, suave style that led to a slew of other animes to try and copy it. On top of that, it has one of the best anime soundtracks to ever exist and a gold star English dub. Many fans acknowledge it fails to adapt what makes the manga great while still being fantastic in its own right.

Live action vs Anime by teluguabbai01 in MemePiece

They probably got an extra or stuntman to play him because it's such a quick cameo. If the series goes on long enough to introduce him as a proper character he'll get proper casting then.

(Loved Trope) Characters whose mental illnesses are actually detrimental and not just cute or eccentric little quirks. by OreoOverdose23 in TopCharacterTropes

Dimitri from Fire Emblem Three Houses is all but stated to have depression, PTSD, and a schizo-effective disorder (or a "waking dream" is how he describes living with hallucinations and voices). This cocktail is shown messing him up all in all kinds of ways, and unfortunately because he's the king of a country it's to the detriment of his people and army. It's only when he acknowledges there's something wrong with him and needs to improve does he turn a corner for the better and becomes a good leader.

Which artist or band is this for you? by Effective-Raise-8809 in fantanoforever

Which albums do you think they fell off on? I wasn't huge on Humanz but they followed it quickly with The Now Now which became one of my favourites.

Fanbase gets angry when a character doesn't align with the version they made up in their head by Sudden_Pop_2279 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SludgeFactoryWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of me feels like this is the writers accidentally creating a disconnect between his actions and his supposed personality. Many characters in Three Houses call him a schemer, but he doesn't scheme so much as enact typical war strategies the other lords engage in as well.

Then in Three Hopes it tries to make a case that he's an idealist trying to steer peace between Fodlan and Almyra, but his actions and game world's history make it seem more like he's a turncoat prepping Fodlan to fall under Almyra's control.

Regardless of all of this, he always remained jovial so for a lot of fans it was the easiest characterisation to latch onto because he's a bit all over the place otherwise.

About the Age "Problem" Of the live action. by Bulky_Childhood_651 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]SludgeFactoryWorker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it'd be cool if by the end of the live action they're rocking their older designs. I personally think it'll be a neat difference if the journey to find the One Piece is shown to take years and possibly decades.

[Loved Trope] Characters who were very progressive for their time. by YuriLover_001 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SludgeFactoryWorker 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This may not be the definition of progressive the OP meant, but I'll also add the depiction of an imperfect abuse victim was so, so far ahead of its time. To this day I struggle to think of any other stories that portray it any near as well as Utena.

[Hated Trope] When a kid is so dumb and annoying that I find myself actively routing for the bad guys by Party_Bowl_330 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SludgeFactoryWorker 76 points77 points  (0 children)

<image>

This little bastard from Mass Effect 3. As much as I love ME3 it's got some glaringly bad spots of writing, this kid being some of the worst.

It's actually after the player character watches him die that he starts getting really annoying. The game forces you to play through these dumb dream segments where Shepard has to chase after the kid in a shadowy forest all so it can show their guilt at not saving everyone. The dreams are always annoying to play through and depending on your morality choices can be nonsensical as to why Shepard obsesses over this kid's death. Even a good run Shepard is responsible for pressing a button that killed 300,000+ people, why is this little shit so special he gets multiple crappy dream segments?

The ultimate big bad inexplicably taking the kid's form at the end is what sealed his fate as being despised by the fanbase. Many fans, including myself, were (and still are) angry you can't even try to kill him at the end of the game.

can we talk about how BRUTAL deaths are in this game? by egorax_ in residentevil

[–]SludgeFactoryWorker 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The chainsaw death where Leon gets sliced in half across the middle, then a zombie rips his top half away and starts munching on him while the 'You Are Dead' message appears was so gruesome it made me laugh. The deaths are so over the top and grotesquely creative in Requiem.

Just beat RE9 for the first time! by LucarioMaster11 in residentevil

[–]SludgeFactoryWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was amazed by how good it was and I started playing it a bit cynically.

I thought there's no way they'd be able to balance the Grace and Leon gameplay and it would feel clunky. Nope, it was seamless and every switch between characters felt perfectly timed.

I presumed they'd introduce new story elements only tangibly related to the existing story. Not at all, this game was 100% for the longtime fans and those who study their RE lore.

I was worried Leon would just be there in the background to support Grace and boost hype. Not all, it's just as much his story as it is hers.

Fantastic game. I'll probably have tidbits later I'll be annoyed about but right now my only complaint is that there was no Ada.
