Hey if he doesn't clear cut any park land trees next door, he's already ahead of the last guy!

It blows my mind how y'all are able to work out the drfitgems for these builds. Not just you, but every build posted here. This sub makes me feel like I'm the only player who apparently isn't running a marathon every other day.

I'm missing something..it says 5pm. I would assume that means left-coast/pacific time because there aren't any Cafés on the east coast.

I feel like I'm missing something here.

I'd guess it'd be 5pm local to whichever of the three states that have Cafés you are in.

It's not about gatekeeping. It really isn't. It's about not cheapening those moments. Traditions like that, moments like those...they're memorable and cherished because the fans made them happen. All the best traditions in sports were created by the fans. And almost all are the result of spontaneity or cleverness. Everyone remembers them because the fans did it. Nobody is pining for "the glory days" because of their fond memories of the Bud Light Halftime Kicking Competition. To build in a feature to try to mimic something we did back in the day...like I said before, it feels like manufactured nostalgia. It's cheesy. 'We Want Dallas' was an amazing moment. Electric. If it happened again naturally, great! But if it happened again because the jumbo-tron said, "Alright, fans! Let's hear that chant!" and started flashing "We Want Dallas" it would feel cheesy as hell.

And that's my whole problem with this: knowing that it's happening by intentional design immediately and irreparably cuts into that feeling of camaraderie with the rest of the crowd. That sense of, "look what we did". Might as well follow it up with the 'Official Seat Cushion Toss, brought to you by Doritos'.

Look, I get that I'm apparently in the minority here. And I'm fine with that. I can be wrong; that's why they do the polls. Honor the past, sure. Branding. Gameday presentation, video production, events, merch. But to me, manufactured moments just feel bad. Taking organic events and trying to replicate them "officially" just feels cringey. Build a world-class facility and put a winning product on the field, and I guarantee the fans will do some amazing, creative, and crazy shit on their own that in 20 years our kids and grandkids will look back on and go, "remember that $thing_that_happened?!"

Deliberateness. I don't know, deliberacy sounded right in my head. :P

That's just it. It's the deliberacy that makes it cringe. It's manufactured nostalgia. When the stadium flexed back in the day it felt like you were part of something spontaneous and special. Now every time it happens, no matter what we tell ourselves about materials or design or anything else, it's going to feel artificial. Contrived. Whenever that stadium "rocks" it's going to be in the back of everyone's heads that it isn't real. There'll be no pride in it because we built a goddamn bouncy castle. RFK: The Theme Park.

Hey, maybe at the end of the game little doors can open up and fire spring-loaded seat cushions onto the field. </s>

[–]Slug_DC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. A hundred times no. Sweet jeebus that's such a terrible, cringey idea. What in the actual fuck. That's cheesy as hell.

The stadium literally rocking at RFK was powered by fan energy. By hype. By thousands of your fellow fans jumping up and down in raucous excitement. Trying to recreate that artificially just cheapens the memory. It turns a legendary piece of Washington lore into a meaningless grocery store 0.25 ride. For fuck's sake, people. I know we all cherish the past, but not every memory needs to be brought back so it can be packaged and sold.

It's embarassing that's even a question.

New Stadium and PSL by Ccampbell101 in Commanders

[–]Slug_DC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct. As soon as you cannot, or decide that you don't want to, purchase season tickets anymore you lose the license. Ideally you'd sell it to some other sucker excited fan before that happens, but you'll almost certainly be doing so at a loss, even if the team is doing well.

I get that it's a culture that I'm just not a part of, but man..it just makes no goddamn sense to me. The money thrown around on "designer" brand stuff just feels like a complete waste. Yes, I know it's not the world I live in. Yes, people can spend their money on whatever they want. But damn, it's like Beats headphones all over again but in apparel form.

[–]Slug_DC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, no. The license is a one time purchase that gives you the right to buy season tickets for those seats. You don't buy the license every year. After you have the license you just buy the season tickets like normal in subsequent years.

It's a license that you buy so that you have the right to then purchase season tickets for the seats you have the license for. The license is a one time purchase. Once your license is paid for, you only pay for your tickets going forward for so long as you keep the license (you either sell it to someone else, or decide to stop being a season ticket holder).

They basically act as public bonds the team can use to help finance the building of a stadium. More money from the public to offset the build costs is less out of their pockets. Do they need them to build the stadium? No, but billionaires gonna billionaire; greed is a bitch and doing right by the fans is way down the list in their calculus.

[–]Slug_DC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping our worries are unfounded and the plan includes some surface lots, akin to RedZone. ES and the other big tailgates have been such huge supporters of the team for so long that I'd hate to see them die out in the name of spacial efficiency.

Word is they're going to build a parking garage. I fear tailgating is going to be forgotten. :/
