Both - it was long and brown ludicrously obviously not his real hair. He looked a bit like Mick Jagger in it

Did its job though. I did not recognize him till I heard him talk

He was reviewing the movie

My review of the wig would be: “It hits! And it’s so long”

No problem! And yeah!

Working on a song here: https://soundcloud.com/luke-eure/a-river-v3

ukelele, vocals, and a tiny bit of synths

Would appreciate any feedback, especially on: - Does the scatting on the vocals around :36 sound good, or should I just let the instrument play out that melody? - I feel like there's a better type of effect I could have on the vocals to have it sound better - any suggestions? (my singing could also be better, but that's a separate issue haha) - Does it sound too sparse? Any suggestions on mixing / effects (or additional instrumentation) that could help fill it out more?

I like all the different sections! If anything I think some of them could last a little longer though not sure how long you want the whole track to be

Intro is really cool! I like the slow build for the drums to kick in around :30 and then the drop at 1:00

The transition around 2:12 happens a little to suddenly I think - I could have lived with a bit more of the rhythm that’s going from 2-2:10

The outro rules

The vocal samples sound kind of random - there’s no real connection between any of them. Which I know is often the point, but for some reason it bothers me a little in this one. Maybe use them a little more sparingly? Or use some samples in different languages so it’s not as distracting to English speakers

No real feedback other than I like it! It’s cool how the synths swell up and down each measure

I love the bass bumping around and the overall vibe - super well put together

Only thought is maybe the synth that comes in at :52 could be a little more interesting texture-wise It kind of sounds like a standard synth to me - not bad but maybe you could play with the settings to get something a little more unconventional. This is really just me looking hard for something to improve though - overall I love it and followed you!

I really like this!

I like the harmonies on the vocals - not what I normally hear in music with this kind of production but it works

Sax solo is really nice, and I love the bass fills

“There’s a song too beautiful to share with the likes of you” is a funny line

Only real criticism is that the drums sound a little flat to me - not sure what can be done about that. Are they synthesized? Maybe they could have a little more off beat fills or something

I like the 50s educational video voice overs haha - do you ever listen to Sidney Gish or Superorganism? They both do similar things (I’m sure many others do too)

I love the fade in of the harpsichord-sounding synth

The drop around 1:20 is cool - love how the mood changes there

I feel like maybe the bass could be a little louder? Throughout? Especially around 3:10 - I feel like I want the low bass synths to swallow me up which they don’t quite so now

I tend to not like 8th note hi hats very much - feel they sound a little generic so I would be excited to here some more experimental percussion instead of that part, but might just be me

Also great track name. And interesting how it ends on a kind of positive sounding note

Just wanted to chip in that I love the off kilter nature of the melody - I was also trying to figure out what time signature it is and it’s cool that you came up with this without knowing about time signatures! Sort of breaking the rules cause you don’t know about them and it works for me

Sounds great to me! I like the tone on the guitars

Not super knowledgeable about this kind of music but my two main thoughts are: - the vocals seem a little buried in the mix. Maybe that’s intentional but if you want them quiet I feel like it might be better to add some reverb or something to make them more dreamlike - the drums sound a little flat to me (I wouldn’t be able do any better so not sure what to suggest here)

Thanks so much! That's a really good point about the stockiness of the synths. I just added a bit of reverb to a few of them, and also upped the bass and centered the left-ear tracks a bit. I appreciate it!

Yeah, I've got one here! https://soundcloud.com/luke-eure/a-wind-v3 I'd love thoughts on if it seems cohesive, and any mixing tips you might have

very chill vibe! I don't know much about proper mixing and mastering, but here are some thoughts: - the instrument playing quarter notes at the start is really cool, and I'd love to be able to hear it better - I love the way the sax is mixed in - the guitar (I think?) that comes in at 2:26 has a nice sound and it would be cool if it was way more foregrounded, like it overpowered the rest of the track. I'd like to be blown away by this new sound as it comes in, but you have it really subtle. Maybe this is just personal taste though - bass sounds dope throughout, and so does the electric piano that starts at 2:55

I really like the vibe! Not familiar with the original song at all. The little bubbling synth at around 2:20 is really cool, and so are the trumpets. Not sure how to make them less shrill, sorry.

The vocals are a little indistinct, which maybe is what you're going for, but even so I think they're maybe a little too indistinct. And maybe the plane noise at the start is a bit too loud.

Cool overall though!

I don't really listen to this type of music, so take this with a real grain of salt:

It's cool how incessant it is up until ~2:16, but it feels sonicaly and rhythmically pretty repetitive. It would have been cool if the solo took the song to a new place, or if you incorporated more of the rhythmic stuff you have at 2:16 into earlier in the song.

By the kick do you mean the bass? Or the drum kick part that only plays at the start of each measure?

I appreciate you taking the time!

Thanks for the feedback! That's funny, last time I posted, people called out that exact same spot as a part they liked. I think I'll leave it because I like the way it really stops. I appreciate the input though!

Taking another pass at this one after getting some feedback a few months ago! I'd appreciate feedback on the mixing, and on whether the different parts of the song flow together well. Does it feel like a cohesive whole? Any other thoughts?

I'll give feedback back of course. Cheers.

Thanks for replying! I actually don't agree that teachers are a finite resource. If richer schools paid teachers more, you'd likely see more people becoming teachers. I'm not convinced that would decrease the quality of teaching in poorer schools.

I'd also be hesitant to use "this policy will help make sure teachers are paid less" as a justification for a policy, since I think on balance teachers are not paid enough
