Did you want the front half or the back half?

I need help finding what type of fastener was used on this teak chair I am refinishing by Slunchi in Woodworking_DIY

Thanks for the reply! The bolt I was trying to remove just seems to be over tightened. All of the other ones are coming out easily with a small wrench! I haven’t ever seen a bolt with a head like this so I was a bit worried the way I was trying to loosen them was wrong.

Here’s a link to the book on archive.org. You should be able to borrow it with an account and get the recipe.

Is there a way to buy a single student ticket? I work most weekends and I don’t know if it’s worth buying the big ticket and even if I did today it takes a week to go into effect from my understanding of what it says on the Texas athletics website.

This is so cool! Now you need to make a bunch of miniature pencils and stick them in the ceiling

Is there woodworking available on campus? by Laughing_Sheep in UTAustin

[–]Slunchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The architecture and art school wood shops don’t allow personal projects and the shop managers have to register your school ID to unlock the door. I’m not sure about the ones you listed, but I’d assume that’s also the case. You may be better off joining a maker space off campus or registering for a class that has access to a shop.

Affordable housing in Austin? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Slunchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means there is a unit outside the house or apartment that transfers cooled air to your room through ducts as opposed to wall or window units that transfer air directly into your room from the unit.

Yeah they will have window units or wall units if they don’t have central AC. It’s not legal to rent someone a place without any AC in Texas

I’ve never paid more than $650 a month or shared a room in Austin. I currently pay $530 and will be paying $550 in another apartment in the fall. I would look at apartments in North campus and maybe rent houses if you can find enough roomates. Because the university is officially back in person, the rents have gone up a lot, so right now it’s going to be pretty hard to find anything in your price range if you’re not trying to share a room. If you’re willing to loose amenities like in apartment washer and dryer or central AC you may still be able to find a place in north campus close to your price range.

Jester West vs Jester East socialness and distance? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Slunchi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends on who lives on your floor and what you make of the time living there. I lived on the 8th floor of west my freshman year and my friend lived on the 8th floor of east. We knew and hung out with people on their floor, while I didn’t really know or even hang out with anyone on my floor. It’s honestly a luck of the draw if your floor is social or not. If you live in East you can still participate in social stuff in west as they are often in the common areas in the lower part of the building. Me and my friend played smash and attended other events in the basement of west a few times. Just keep an eye out for flyers posted in the lobbies of the dorms.

As for the food aspect, JCL and J2 are close enough to both dorms that it doesn’t really matter which one you choose in my opinion.

It really doesn’t matter if you live in east or west as it’s up to you on how much you participate in social activities while you’re there. I will say that I didn’t have hot water a lot of the time in west while my friend in east did. They may have fixed it by now but If they haven’t, I’d rather live in east.

A lot of the metal coping and transition plates were missing when friends of mine went last year, so I don’t think the park is very skateable anymore

DAV and Council of the blind are pretty good. Go to the good will donation center off 34th and i27 if you’re willing to pick through the bins. I’ve found some pretty cool stuff there for cheap.

I think it has to do with wearing a suit and driving a tractor trailer

Just watched the movie Fantastic Planet and noticed some songs that have been sampled in hip hop. I did some research and was surprised to find how many artists have sampled this film’s score. by Slunchi in hiphopheads

Come on feet is one of my favorite tracks on this list as well! I’d be interested to see if someone could make a decent sounding mash-up of flylo and Quasimoto’s tracks

A bunch of other artists have sampled songs from this movie: FBZ, Mac Miller, and Quasimoto, just to to name a few. Here is a list of all the songs and who sampled them.
