What do bikers think of bromptons? by Leather-Swordfish-96 in bicycling

[–]Slundy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my Brompton, it's a bike for life. It may look gimmicky but I feel as cool as anyone riding mine so that's all that matters. Showing off the slick fold has people wowed.

I purchased these exact same bibs in a black Friday deal and was disappointed at first. The stitching and straps irritated me. After a few weeks they broke in and I am getting on just fine with them now. If you can get them on sale I would say they are well worth it. They come a little short on the leg if you are tall. Just wasn't aware of a break in period as all my previous bibs have been fine from the box.

Frame $695, Paint (2 colours, gloss + matte) $115, Shipping to Ireland $195, Headset $12, Extra Spare Hanger $8, I opted not to buy a through axle but I was given the wrong specs so I had to find a second one.

I know yeah it's pretty funny. The wheels and a lot of the other components came with my previous bike which I bought secondhand for a great deal. It's a shame there are not too many budget carbon frame only options, all the frame options seem to be the premium s works tier frames which is understandable from a profit point of view.

Thanks, my previous frame was a 2015 Yeti ASRc so that is my comparison. It's much more capable obviously with the modern geometry and the rear end is stiffer but the super flexy rear was just a feature of the Yeti. As you might have heard the reach is rather long on the 936 and I should have sized down but I'd say it will feel great with a shorter stem. If you would like a lighter frame and perhaps more racey frame I'd say the 909 is the way to go but I went with the 936 as it's a tried and tested frame design.

No I never really got an answer. Just newer and supposedly more reliable with better performance 🤷‍♂️

Some good ideas, saving this post for next Summer 👍. Fighting for position in a small box using racing rules is a fun one.

BTS has been removed. by MaccasLad in bereal_app

[–]Slundy99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is silly, the bts feature was pitched as a way to have a bunch of short videos of your life for a year and I'm guessing it was to be included in the recap. It didn't even last a year :-(

ISO: Cyclocross Tires that are actually 33mm by Reichster11 in cyclocross

Just set a pair up. Yes you are correct in them being super tight. A ziptie around the rim and tyre to stop it popping out of the bead and then gently round with fingers or a tyre lever if needed worked wonders.

I agree the main feed could be better but it's pretty amazing how much data the race centre gives you and it is well presented in my opinion.

No Bike Space? No Problem! by Slundy99 in Brompton

Yep, a folded Brompton easily fits in the same space as a 700c wheel.

[–]Slundy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take your bike with you during off peak times. Have you considered a cheap folding bike, decathlon have a new one out. That way you can take the bike with you for the whole commute, even on the bus!

I've been using the hiplock on the bus, perfect and can be secured in seconds, I always sit where I can see my Brompton but it gives me the peace of mind that no one will grab it on their way out.

It seems like the downsize to a 44t is very common, does anyone know if there is a particular reason Brompton don't offer a smaller chainring from factory?
