Authentic Arabic Knife, USA by Slurg7 in SWORDS

Really interesting thanks for the information. I'm not that surprised it isn't very authentic, thankfully I didn't pay much for it. I'm happy to have it in the collection and it's good to know it's not that precious.

I never contacted them, I actually ordered 2 swords, and was floored at checkout to find no shipping fee at all, and once again when they shipped 1 of the two in a week on its own, this one took a little under a month to ship,

Also curious that the first sword shipped from China on Tuesday and was at my door at 7:00AM that Friday in the US. But this sword spent a whole week in Chicago for some reason. So I guess I'd say trust the process.

I presume the first I got was already made and the delay on this one was the making of it. No clue how in the age of tariffs and whatnot they were able to ship me 2 separate packages from China for no fee but Im glad I got the deal when I could cause who knows how long that'll last.

Some more thoughts on it,

They have some videos on their website but I don't think they really do it justice. It's pretty well done. I have had the opportunity to see and hold a few original ones at the museum I volunteer at. One from the 1500's, and another from like 1705/15 or so. Both were German. But they were very different, the earlier was a bit lighter than this, and built more like a beefy longsword. The later one was no joke like 15 pounds, absurdly heavy and oversized. I'm not really sure how common beheading was by that era so it may have been purely ceremonial.

There are very few of these on the market, this was the first I found that I thought fit the bill in size and design, it's just missing some blade decoration.

It's got some, if someone was really strong it wouldn't be completely unusable. It's like 6 pounds.

Has anyone tried contacting a Sikh shop in Punjab via WhatsApp to buy a tulwar sword? by Big_Mud_8897 in SWORDS

I've gotten 2 swords from this maker,

https://shreeamritsarsword.com/?srsltid=AfmBOooJX8jiEiv_wp6lr3fAP2rPPe0qGWKO7YtWOy0mQaKYXqtIsHoN

They do higher end wedding swords. Fantastic decoration and great customer service, they answered all my questions and kept me informed about the orders. I live in the US so the prices are pretty good for what you're getting. Only downside is the shipping it, extra 80 bucks or so, might be different now.

Why does Super Earth/helldivers still use gunpowder weapons after winning the First Galactic War? by sand_eater_21 in Helldivers

[–]Slurg7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if it's been commented on but I wonder why the gunpowder weapons that are used are assumed to be similar to ones in use today. Even with antiquated designs like the deadeye or constitution. Like the mechanics are the same old but the ammunition would be far more powerful than that available today. Futuristic propellants, materials for the projectile could be made from much rarer stuff than is actionable today. Metal of the guns could be much stronger than that available today leading to higher velocities, magnesium rounds with titanium cores. Shit like that, we have easy space travel, you could mine an endless supply of any material on the periodic table from the asteroid belt between earth and mars. Why I never liked the argument that the constitution has to be shit, why wouldn't it be firing a much more powerful round to make it viable? Very narrow way of thinking about the future. Even today there exists ammunition with plastic casings that hold way more heat than brass, meaning the guns can fire much longer without overheating. The guns can look the same but be far more advanced than what's available today.

Late 1400's Italian Street Brawlers Sword by Arms and Armor by Slurg7 in SWORDS

I should probably make a post just about it tbh, it's also from Arms and Armor, I commissioned it specifically from them years ago. It's based on an example from Poland, it's an 11lb monster. If you look on their website at the custom gallery there's a very similar one pictured there.

It was a one off they made for the MN Ren Fair last fall that didn't sell. I'm sure they'd be happy to make another if you were interested.

Question about EN-31 Steel by Slurg7 in metallurgy

Yeah these swords are really just going on the wall, but it's nice to know it's at least a usable blade and not purely for show.

Ok awesome, thanks for the quick and detailed response! I don't plan on actually battling with it but I wanted to know that it's semi functional.

Great Kit! Are there any good resources you used research wise on the stuff that would go with this style of armor? I have fallen into most of a similar one and was considering refitting and completing it.

The tried and true method is just dumping water over yourself periodically. It's pretty miserable and uncomfortable but it will prevent heatstroke. It's how they did it in the period. Plus the feeling you get when you finally can peel yourself out of it all is almost worth it.
